Ondo Commissioner Lauds Remi Tinubu, Gov Aiyedatiwa, Wife for Empowering Women
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ondo State, who is also also the State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Dr. Seun Osamaye, has expressed deep appreciation to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her unwavering dedication to the empowerment of women, particularly through the impactful programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Speaking on the recent empowerment initiatives implemented in Ondo State, Hon. Osamaye commended the First Lady for her compassionate leadership and the positive impact her programmes have had on women across various communities.
She noted that many women, especially widows, small-scale business owners, and vulnerable groups, have received meaningful support that is helping them achieve economic independence and improved quality of life.
The Commissioner also lauded the wife of the Ondo State Governor, Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, for her steadfast commitment to women’s welfare and continuous advocacy for their rights and development. She described Mrs. Aiyedatiwa as a strong pillar of support for women across the state.
Hon. Osamaye further extended her appreciation to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his numerous pro-women initiatives, which she described as “noble and transformative.”
These include support for female entrepreneurs through grants and training, expanded access to healthcare for pregnant women and nursing mothers, promotion of girl-child education, and sustained efforts in combating gender-based violence.
She also acknowledged the Governor’s efforts to include more women in political appointments and key decision-making roles within the state.
“These initiatives by His Excellency have brought real change to the lives of our women,” Hon. Osamaye stated. “His commitment to building an inclusive and supportive environment for women is not only commendable, it is historic.”
She assured Governor Aiyedatiwa of the unwavering support of all girls and women in Ondo State, saying they recognize and deeply appreciate his efforts.
“On behalf of all the women and girls in Ondo State, I express our heartfelt gratitude to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to the wife of our Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, and to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Your collective support is changing lives, and we are solidly behind you as partners in progress.”
Hon. Osamaye reaffirmed her ministry’s commitment to ensuring that every woman in Ondo State has access to opportunities, resources, and the necessary support to live a fulfilled life.
She pledged to continue working closely with the Renewed Hope Initiative and other relevant bodies to drive sustainable development and empowerment for women across the state.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, has said Nigeria is the second country in the world with the highest number of people living without access to electricity.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Monday, Aliyu explained that only India has more people without power supply than Nigeria.
He however stressed that the current administration has put in place a structured plan to address what he called electricity poverty.
“I recently came across a post by The Economist which showed that only India has more people without electricity access than Nigeria. But unlike many other countries, Nigeria now has a well-structured plan to address this challenge,” he said.
Aliyu noted that the REA does not operate on the national grid but focuses on off-grid and underserved communities.
“If you have a problem with your Disco, that’s not within our mandate. Our focus is on communities without access to electricity,” he clarified.
Highlighting the agency’s ongoing projects, the REA boss pointed to the Distributed Access to Renewable Energy Scale (DARES) initiative, describing it as the largest public renewable energy project in the world.
According to him, the $750 million programme aims to deliver electricity to 17.5 million Nigerians who currently live without power.

The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has ordered the re-arrest of five alleged illegal immigrants employed at Royal Castle Ceramics in Ogun State.
The directive followed public outrage over the sudden release of the Chinese nationals, who were initially arrested and slated for deportation under Section 44 of the Immigration Act. Reports indicated that their discharge was allegedly secured through unofficial lobbying by a retired senior NIS officer.
According to an internal memo, the service mandated the immediate re-apprehension of the five expatriates effective from the close of work on Friday, August 22, 2025.
The decision, the memo added, is aimed at calming public discontent while ensuring a thorough investigation and full documentation of their immigration status and employment activities in Nigeria.
The individuals affected are: Zhang Damou (46), Sales Manager; Qian Jin (48), Sales Manager on a Temporary Work Permit (TWP); Tang Pan (41), Interpreter on TWP; Lin Jianfeng (52), Business Manager on TWP; and Guo Zhengheng (40), Sales Manager on a Business Visa.
Authorities said the arrests were based on infractions of Sections 36, 38, 56, and 105 of the Immigration Act, 2015. While the initial operation was carried out in line with legal procedures, their abrupt release stirred criticism and raised questions about the integrity of immigration enforcement in the country.
The Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, is now under mounting pressure to address both the case and broader concerns over internal misconduct. Civil society groups and stakeholders are demanding stronger enforcement measures and transparency to restore public confidence in the Service.
In a related move, the Ministry of Interior announced an immediate review of all expatriate quotas and permits linked to Royal Castle Ceramics and other manufacturing firms, citing “widespread abuse of immigration privileges” in Nigeria’s industrial sector.

A group under the auspices of the North Central Renaissance Movement, NCRM, has called on Nigeria’s major political parties to consider zoning their presidential tickets to the North Central region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group made this call in a communiqué at the end of its meeting in Abuja and signed by its chairperson, Prof. K’tso Nghargbu, arguing that the region, which has never produced a civilian President or Vice President since Independence, deserves its turn to lead the nation.
The NCRM emphasised the immense contributions of the North Central zone to Nigeria’s political stability, economic development, and national unity.
It highlighted the region’s sacrifices, including hosting the Federal Capital Territory, providing hydroelectric power, and supporting agriculture through initiatives such as groundnut pyramids and tin mining, as justification for its demand.
“We will no longer accompany other zones as escorts, backbenchers, spectators, or political underdogs to the glorious location called Nigeria. Being the only geopolitical zone that has never produced a civilian President or Vice President since Independence, the time for North Central to lead the country is now,” the communiqué declared.
