Taraba LG boss denies approving Tiv elders’ meeting
The Chairman of Wukari LGA of Taraba State, Agbu Samaila Dauda, has reaffirmed that the Aku-Uka remains the only supreme traditional authority in Wukari.
In a statement released on Thursday, Dauda refuted claims that he approved a meeting organized by the Tiv Elders Forum on December 30, 2024.
He dismissed the allegations as “baseless and laughable”, stating that no such authorization came from his office.
The chairman further accused the Tiv Elders Forum of spreading falsehoods and attempting to destabilize the peace in Wukari.
He also condemned the group’s appointment of Mr. Nenshi Terer as “Ter Wukari”, a title he described as illegitimate and unrecognized by both the Wukari Traditional Council and the local government.
“Titles such as ‘Ter Wukari’ do not exist in any legal or traditional framework within Wukari Local Government,” Dauda asserted. “I call on security agencies to investigate and apprehend Mr. Nenshi Terer or anyone falsely claiming such a title.”
He also rejected the concept of a “Tiv Central Leader” within Wukari, emphasizing that all residents, including the Tiv community, must adhere to the traditional leadership structures of their respective chiefdom.
He urged them to address concerns through the proper channels, beginning from village heads to district and chiefdom authorities.
Calling on the public to disregard the Tiv Elders Forum’s claims, Dauda labelled them as deliberate fabrications aimed at creating unnecessary tension in the local government area.

Niger Delta Group Hails Tinubu’s Appointment of Avuru as NNPCL Board Member, Declares Support for Ojulari
In what it described as a pivotal moment for the Nigerian oil industry, the Niger Delta Development Agenda (NDDA) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing industry veteran and highly respected figure in the oil and gas sector, Austin Avuru as non-executive director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) representing South-South.
In a statement signed by its convener, Iteveh Nurudeen Ekpokpobe, he expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for the appointment of the Isoko-born Avuru as a board member of NNPCL.
“As an Isoko man, I commend the president for giving this consideration to the Isoko nation.
“This new management we hope will help to even the marginalisation scale against the Isoko people and the Niger Delta region by extension,” the group said.
Iteveh said “the appointment of Austin Avuru, a highly respected figure in the oil and gas sector who brings his extensive experience to the industry underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to assembling a team of seasoned professionals.
“As a Pan-Niger Delta development pressure group, the Niger Delta Development Agenda also declares support for Bashir Ojulari, the new NNPCL GCEO”.
The group stated that “with Ojulari’s appointment as the new GCEO, he is expected to use his extensive knowledge to direct and pilot NNPC by taking it to greater heights where it is expected to compete favorably well within the oil and gas sector across the world.
“We believe that these changes are anticipated to provide NNPC with a fresh perspective and assist in advancing the nation’s energy goals”.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister Nyesom Wike on Thursday said he would not hesitate to sign the condolence letter of those who wish him death.
This comes as he dismissed social media reports that he collapsed last week.
The former governor of Rivers State described the reports as the handiwork of persons trying to score cheap political points.
Wike spoke after he inspected four ongoing projects in the territory, including the International Conference Centre (ICC).
“Everybody will die one day; nobody will remain forever, but it is only God that can tell you when you will die, not human beings.
“Some of them who said, I will die, I can assure you that I will write their condolence letter,” he stated.
Recall that last week, reports emerged that Wike collapsed at a function in Abuja.
However, the spokesperson for Wike, Lere Olayinka, described the reports as fake.
Wike made a public appearance together with other leaders in Abuja four days ago when they paid President Bola Tinubu a Sallah visit.
