Israel’s former defence chief resigns from parliament
Former Israeli Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, on Wednesday, said he was resigning from parliament.
Gallant had often taken an independent line against Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right government allies.
Netanyahu fired him from the government in November after months of disagreements over the conduct of the war against Hamas in Gaza, but kept his seat as an elected member of the Knesset.
In a televised statement, Gallant said, “Just as it is on the battlefield, so it is in public service. There are moments in which one must stop, assess and choose a direction in order to achieve the goals.”
The former defence chief had often broken ranks with Netanyahu and his coalition allies of far-right and religious parties, including over exemptions granted to ultra-Orthodox Jewish men from serving in the conscript military, a hot button issue.
In March 2023, Netanyahu dismissed Gallant after he urged a halt to a highly contested government plan to cut the Supreme Court’s powers.
His dismissal sparked mass protests and Netanyahu backtracked.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Gallant and Netanyahu, along with a Hamas leader, for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza conflict, which Israel has contested.

According to the medics, fifteen people were also wounded, but the Israeli military has not immediately commented.
Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV reported that the Director-General of Gaza’s police department, Mahmoud Salah, and his aide, Hussam Shahwan were killed in the airstrike.

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor Williams Kumuyi, has made some prophetic declarations for the year of 2025.
Pastor Kumuyi assured that the enemy will not determine the lives of God’s people in the year of 2025.
Addressing his church members during the crossover service, Pastor Kumuyi said the name of Jesus Christ would open closed doors for people in 2025.
The clergyman said those who connect their name to that of Jesus Christ would explode positively in 2025.
According to Kumuyi: “Welcome the new year. What’s your name? Your new year has come, 2025. I give you a prosperous 2025, a fully-loaded 2025.
“All sufficiency for your life, for your ministry, for your profession. 2025 fully, completely loaded for you. The enemy will not determine your life in the new year. You have the final say.
“Whenever you come before a closed door this new year, you mention the name of Jesus; you mention your name. The connection between that name (Jesus) and your name will bring explosion of power.”

South Korea: Yoon vows to fight until end
South Korea’s impeached President, Yoon Suk Yeol, says he will fight until the end as he faces an attempt by authorities to arrest him over his short-lived December 3 martial law.
Writing in a letter late on Wednesday to the estimated hundreds of supporters, who gathered near his official residence protesting his investigation, Yoon thanked the supporters for their efforts.
“I am watching on YouTube live all the hard work you are doing.
“I will fight until the end to protect this country together with you,” he said.
The opposition Democratic Party, which has majority control of parliament and led the impeachment of Yoon on December 14, said the letter proved that Yoon was delusional and remains committed to complete his insurrection.
Party spokesman, Jo Seoung-lae, said in a statement that as if trying to stage insurrection wasn’t enough, Yoon is now inciting his supporters to an extreme clash.
DAILY POST recalls that a court on Tuesday approved a warrant for Yoon’s arrest, which potentially would make him the first sitting president to be detained as part of investigations over allegations he masterminded insurrection by trying to impose martial law.
DAILY POST reports that insurrection is one of the few criminal charges from which a South Korean president does not have immunity.
The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, CIO, leading a joint team of investigators that include the police and prosecutors, has until January 6 to execute the arrest warrant.
Yoon has been suspended from presidential duties and Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok has taken over as acting president until the outcome of the trial.
If the court upholds the impeachment and Yoon is removed from office, a new presidential election will be held within 60 days.
