The 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has said the queues for food across the nation during the festive season are an indication of the hardship Nigerians are going through under the President Bola Tinubu administration.

The Labour Party chieftain said he has never experienced such a scenario in his adult life.

DAILY POST reported a number of stampedes where dead bodies were recovered across the country, including Abuja, the nation’s capital.

A similar incident occurred in Anambra State where not less than 20 residents of the Okija community died in a stampede that occurred during an event organized for the distribution of rice.

It was also reported that over 35 people, mostly children, died during a stampede at a carnival in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

Rhodes-Vivour said there was nothing wrong in a government embarking on macro economic reforms but faulted the government’s lack of plans to cushion the hardship and effect that the everyday Nigerian would face as a result of such moves.

“You can have a macro economic plan if you are thinking that way, then you should also understand the shock it’s going to do on the ground. So, what did you put in place?” He said on Thursday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“There was a point when they said they were transferring money to people. Monies that we couldn’t account for, monies that we couldn’t trace.

“Huge amount of money that just apparently went to the system and disappeared. Without any accountability for it. There was a point when they were sharing food and then there were stampedes at Customs.

“I mean you saw the amount of stampedes that happened this yuletide season. Never in my adult years have I seen Nigerians so desperate to get food.

“You say a place was going to open at 9am, at 3am people were already queuing for food? That shows the hardship Nigerians are facing.” he lamented.

South Korean investigators on Friday halted their attempt to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol over his failed martial law bid.

The Corruption Investigation Office made this known in a statement on Friday, saying that the investigators called off the attempt due to a standoff at his residence.

“Regarding the execution of the arrest warrant today, it was determined that the execution was effectively impossible due to the ongoing standoff. Concern for the safety of personnel on-site led to the decision to halt the execution,” the statement said.

DAILY POST recalls that operatives investigating South Korea’s suspended President, Yoon Suk Yeol, over his short-lived declaration of martial law, sought an arrest warrant for the ousted president after he failed to report for questioning.

President Donald Trump has described the United States of America as a disaster, saying it’s a laughing stock all over the world.

The statement comes after U.S Army veteran rammed a pickup into New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street, New Orleans.

The suspect, “inspired by” the Islamic State terrorist organization, killed at least 15.

However, Trump said that the incident is what happens when a country has open borders, with weak, ineffective, and virtually nonexistent leadership.

According to him, the U.S Department of Justice, DOJ, and Federal Bureau of Intelligence, FBI, and Democrat state and local prosecutors did not done their job.

In a post on his X handle on Thursday, Trump wrote: “Our Country is a disaster, a laughing stock all over the World! This is what happens when you have OPEN BORDERS, with weak, ineffective, and virtually nonexistent leadership.

“The DOJ, FBI, and Democrat state and local prosecutors have not done their job.

“They are incompetent and corrupt, having spent all of their waking hours unlawfully attacking their political opponent, ME, rather than focusing on protecting Americans from the outside and inside violent SCUM that has infiltrated all aspects of our government, and our Nation itself. Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen to our Country.

“The CIA must get involved, NOW, before it is too late. The USA is breaking down – A violent erosion of Safety, National Security, and Democracy is taking place all across our Nation.

“Only strength and powerful leadership will stop it. See you on January 20th. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
