Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has assured the people of Benue State that his administration will continue to build on the very firm foundations of development which it has laid, especially in the areas of agriculture, education, economy, infrastructure, youth empowerment, social welfare, poverty alleviation, promising that the state has not seen anything yet in terms of development under his watch.

The Governor stated this on Wednesday in a New Year address to the people of the State.

He said the year 2025 presented an opportunity for his administration to be even better than where it was in the last year,

This was contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula.

“As a state and as a people, the New Year celebration marks the consolidation of our renewed hope, new possibilities and opportunities for us to improve our standard of living.

“We are not only working towards making our state a hub of industrial and economic activities; we are also determined to realize a Benue that sustainably breathes the air of premium quality healthcare services agreeing with global best practices.”

Gov Alia commended the people of the State for their faith in his administration despite challenges, assuring further that the 2025 budget for ‘Human Capital Development, Food Security and Digital Economy’ promises more for the people of the state.

He said he was aware of reservations from a few individuals about his style of leadership of not spraying money on the streets, insisting he was more concerned about using the monies for projects that will benefit every Benue citizen.

“I am very much aware of a few expected pockets of reservations about my administration’s style of leadership, a style which is not keen on spraying monies on the streets for the masses to feed on and go hungry the next day.

“My administration instead, is more concerned with creating a system that benefits every individual and group in Benue – rich or poor, young or old, white or black. We are more determined to use those resources to build institutions, facilities, infrastructure, policies and enabling environments that are breeding grounds for growth irrespective of tribe, race or religion,” stated the Governor.

He urged the people of the state to reflect on his style of leadership and take a stand on what they believe is the best possible path towards a new, greater and better Benue.

The Bauchi State Government has expressed its readiness to fully implement the Supreme Court judgment mandating autonomy for Local Governments as the third tier of government.

The government arrived at the decision following a stakeholders’ consultative meeting chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed at the Banquet Hall of the Government House.

The gathering included Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau, Speaker of the House of Assembly Abubakar Suleiman and elected chairpersons of the state’s 20 Local Government Areas, LGAs.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Aminu Hammayo, revealed that two Executive Bills would soon be presented to the State House of Assembly to outline the framework for implementing local government autonomy.

“Over the past six to seven months, local government autonomy has been a central issue across Nigeria, stemming from the Supreme Court judgment granting full autonomy to LGAs,” Hammayo stated.

He explained that the Governor deemed it essential to thoroughly examine the implications and processes required to establish a robust framework for implementing autonomy in Bauchi State.

The meeting featured discussions and presentations on topics such as local government administration, revenue generation, sharing formulas, and the current structural challenges.

Stakeholders engaged in debates and shared input, contributing to the development of two draft bills.

“These bills, presented by the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, include the Local Government Administration Bill 2025 and a proposed law for the state’s implementation of local government autonomy,” Hammayo disclosed.

The SSG noted that stakeholders had scrutinized the draft bills, offering feedback to refine the proposed legislation.

“The aim is to ensure that the final laws reflect diverse perspectives and serve as a comprehensive guide for implementing autonomy,” he added.

He assured that the bills would soon be submitted to the State House of Assembly for deliberation and eventual passage, aligning with the Supreme Court’s directive.
