Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has promised that his administration will continue to foster an economy that promotes growth, equity, and resilience through sustainable development plans.

The governor also admonished the people of the state to set aside their differences and continue to coexist with one another for the peace and development of the state and the country at large.

Abiodun, who stated this in his New Year address, stressed the need for the people to come together in the new year with renewed vigor and work for the good of society.

He said: “As we journey together in 2025, let us continue to come together as one, with a renewed sense of purpose, regardless of our differences, and work towards the betterment of our beloved state.

“This New Year is an opportunity for us to reflect and remind ourselves of our responsibilities to each other as we are determined to start anew in the New Year.

“I wish to enjoin you that as we step into this New Year, let us do so with renewed hope, determination, and more focus. Let us strive to make Ogun State a beacon of progress, development, and prosperity.”

He said his administration has made a positive, inclusive, and lasting impact on the lives of the people through the construction of roads, provision of affordable housing, human capital development, youth and women empowerment, qualitative healthcare, and food security.

Other sectors in which the administration has made significant progress, according to Governor Abiodun, include transportation, security, education, and energy.

“In the energy sector, with the recent constitutional amendments removing the provision of electricity from the exclusive to the concurrent list, we have passed the Ogun State Electricity Law. Consequently, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved the transfer of regulatory oversight to the Ogun State Electricity Commission (OGERC), thus allowing Ogun State to regulate the generation, transmission, and distribution of power,” he added.

The governor pointed out that the administration leveraged the state’s comparative and competitive advantages, as well as diverse economic potentials, to create an adaptable, evolving and capable system that absorbs shocks.

He maintained that the ISEYA mantra, acting as a compass for his administration’s developmental drive, has helped to enhance speedy growth in all sectors. He acknowledged that there is still more to be done, adding that the government would continue to address issues that affect the people, such as economic realities, unemployment, and inadequate social amenities.

While pledging to remain focused, deliberate, committed, and inclusive by keeping his promises and sustaining the implementation of the ISEYA mantra, the state helmsman emphasized that his government, in the new year, would continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances.

“Despite numerous challenges, both as a government and as individuals, God’s mercies have seen us all through. It is my sincere prayer that this new year brings improved living conditions for all of us and ushers in further development for our dear state.

“This past year has been a testament to our collective resolve to build the Ogun State of our dreams. Our state has weathered both literal and metaphorical storms but has emerged stronger.

“Through acts of kindness, community initiatives, and the tireless work of our public servants, we have proven that when we stand united, no challenge is too great to overcome. As we welcome the new year, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering progress and prosperity for every resident of our state.

“Let us embrace this year with renewed hope, striving to achieve even greater milestones in terms of infrastructural development and individual prosperity. Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, as part of his goodwill for the new year, granted absolute pardon to one prisoner, paid fines for 10 others, and had their various jail terms quashed.

In a state-wide broadcast on New Year’s Day, Mutfwang welcomed citizens to what he termed “a year of hope renewal, great opportunities, and transformative progress” for Plateau State.

In governance, the governor commended President Bola Tinubu, citizens, and security personnel for their support, trust, prayers, sacrifices, and diligence, and expressed optimism that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, the state would prosper.

He said, “I welcome you to the year 2025 – a year of hope renewal, great opportunities, and transformative progress for our beloved state… Despite the hurdles we encountered, we made bold investments in technology and logistics to strengthen the surveillance and protection of our rural communities. Our efforts have already begun yielding significant results, as unprovoked attacks, once rampant, are steadily declining.”

While progress has been made, Mutfwang noted that some communities continue to face security challenges, assuring that he would not rest until enduring peace is achieved across Plateau State. He also extended his heartfelt condolences to all those who have suffered from attacks across the state.

He stated that the pain of the affected people is their pain, saying they remain committed to partnering with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to end the avoidable tragedies.

The governor noted that it is sad that some individuals have turned child trafficking into a business to exploit children, stressing that the government under his watch will take decisive action against those who indulge in this criminal activity, while encouraging parents to take absolute responsibility for raising their children and safeguarding them against the menace.

Mutfwang listed the efforts made in sectors like transportation, agriculture, ICT, education, health, water and sanitation, urban renewal, energy, and infrastructure, among others. He added that in 2025, they are committed to building neighborhood markets across the Jos–Bukuru metropolis and establishing modern community markets in each of the three senatorial districts.

He also assured that they would focus on technological advancement, saying that plans are in place to revitalize the Nigerian Standard Building into a hub for tech-driven employment for Plateau’s youth, while their collaboration with Galaxy Backbone Limited will enhance internet accessibility and introduce e-governance initiatives for greater transparency and efficiency.

The Plateau State ICT Development Agency (PICTDA), he said, would also develop skills to position the state as an ICT hub. As they step into 2025, he urged the citizens to embrace the year as one of consolidation, sustainability, and fulfillment, as they engage in strategic discussions with Plateau youth, the business community, and elders to foster unity and progress.

Mutfwang assured that they are determined to revitalize and make functional all traditional institutions in the state to take charge of their domain and appealed to ethnic nationalities and communities where a vacuum exists to speedily remove all impediments to allow vacant stools to be lawfully occupied.

On the offenders, he said he is pleased to announce that fines were paid for various offenders who committed various offenses, and their jail terms were quashed, including Moses Reuben, who was granted absolute pardon. Payment of fines was made for Saleh Muhammadu, Mohammed Ado, Safa David, Timothy Sunday, David Yusuf, Abba Ahmed, Umar Adamu, Manasseh Dada, Na’Answan, and Sunday Joseph.

Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced plans to convert Ibom Specialist Hospital into a stand-alone medical facility by 2025, similar to how Ibom Air is run.

The governor, who made this announcement in his 2025 New Year broadcast in Uyo on Wednesday, explained that the conversion aims for the specialist hospital to fulfill the mission of its founding.

It could be recalled that the multi-billion Naira facility, since its inauguration during former governor Godswill Akpabio’s administration, has not realized its full potential.

Governor Eno also stated that this year, he would flag off the construction of a Medical Village along the medical tourism corridor between the Ibom Specialist Hospital and the Raffia City of Ikot Ekpene. He mentioned plans to formally launch the State Ambulance Services to complement the Insurance Scheme.

His words: “The health and well-being of our people will continue to be our priority, even as we pay greater attention to healthcare delivery. In the New Year, we will continue to commission more model primary healthcare facilities across the state, in addition to those already commissioned. We will enroll more people into our Arise Care Medical Insurance Scheme, in addition to almost 10 thousand public service employees and some senior citizens who have already been enrolled.

“Ibom Specialist Hospital will be reorganized to enable it to fulfill the mission of its founding. It will be run as a stand-alone medical facility in the model of Ibom Air.”

He also announced plans to reinvigorate the power sector in 2025 by holding a power summit, while thanking the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, for the swift passage of the State Electricity Bill into law.

On the Ibom power plant, the governor promised to turn around its fortunes, saying, “The forensic audit earlier instituted is expected to submit its report, and we will study and implement some of the recommendations that are germane to our strategic plans.”

Speaking on the realization of the Ibom Deep Seaport in 2025, Governor Eno urged the people to be patient, as seaport development is a long-term investment. He stated that his administration would continue with its strategic engagements with partners toward its realization.

He added, “We will expedite work on the Oron Jetty, complete with cold room facilities, in our efforts to support our fishermen and our blue economy in general.”

The governor also urged the people to remain united and shun politics of division and personal destruction, expressing his determination to run an inclusive government.

“Politics should not divide us or sever our bonds of kinship. We are first and foremost Akwa Ibomites before we became members of any political parties. Let us continue to hold aloft our defined identity as a peaceful, prosperous, and forward-looking people. I will continue to run the state and involve and consult our leaders across party lines because if we succeed, Akwa Ibom succeeds, and if we succeed, we will!” he said.

Governor Adeleke reiterated that, over the last year, his administration has financed projects primarily from state resources.

These revelations were part of Governor Adeleke’s New Year message to residents of the state on Wednesday.

The governor also revealed that the state’s resources include internally generated revenue and allocations from the federation account. He added that he has not been accessing security votes and has not borrowed any funds to run the state government.

The address reads in part:
“In the last one year and since I assumed office, our projects have been financed mainly from state resources. This includes internally generated revenue and allocations from the federation account. Just as I have not been accessing security votes, I have not borrowed a single kobo to run the state government.

“As a responsible state in Nigeria, we are part and parcel of programmes and activities of the National Economic Council and the Nigerian Governors’ Forum. We inherited many national programmes from the previous APC governments. We continue to sustain those programmes when and if they benefit our people.”

Governor Adeleke urged those seeking information about his administration to take advantage of the Freedom of Information Act.

He said:
“My good people of Osun, I have kept faith with my pledge for transparency and accountability as your state governor. In the last one year, we received and processed several requests for information based on the Freedom of Information Act. We ensured access to information as a transparent and accountable government.

“As democracy is a government for the people, of the people, and by the people, I call on those seeking specific data on government programmes to take advantage of the Freedom of Information Act. Specifically, I urge the opposition to join the state government as we turn the fortunes of our state for the better. We are all stakeholders.”

DAILY POST gathered that the governor’s revelation comes in the wake of allegations leveled against him by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

During an end-of-year address on Monday, Kola Olabisi, the Director of Media and Information for the Osun APC, accused the state government of secretly signing and obtaining a combined foreign loan of $51 million (N81.6 billion equivalent), using an exchange rate of N1,600 to $1.

Olabisi maintained that the current administration is on the verge of plunging the state into a deep financial crisis, urging the people of the state to hold Adeleke accountable for alleged financial recklessness.

According to the APC, the claim that Adeleke’s administration has not obtained any loans since its inception is untrue, as part of the state’s 2024 budget is being financed through the NG-CARES facility.

Reacting to the allegations, the spokesperson for the governor, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the APC’s claims.

Olawale categorically denied that Osun State had acquired foreign loans under NG-CARES.
