Ogun 2027: Why Sen. Adeola is a Popular Choice

As Ogun State edges closer to the 2027 governorship election, one name continues to dominate conversations across towns, markets, and political gatherings, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi. His growing popularity is rooted not only in his political experience but also in his deliberate investments in people, infrastructure, and social safety nets that touch lives directly.

One of Yayi’s most visible interventions in the recent time was the donation of more than 100 transformers to various communities across Ogun State which he also energized for the benefiting communities. For decades, rural towns and peri-urban areas have endured epileptic electricity supply, stifling small businesses and compounding poverty. The transformers have changed this narrative.

In Ogun West, East and Central, for instance, traders and artisans including Community Development Associations testify that the new transformers have cut their reliance on costly generators. To many residents, the transformers represent not just infrastructure but community empowerment: the light that enables their daily hustle. But this is only one strand in a larger web of empowerment programs that define his style of leadership.
Yayi has not stopped at providing transformers. He has backed this with solar-powered streetlights and road rehabilitation, recognizing that infrastructure must come as a package.

From providing transformers for electricity to rehabilitating rural roads, Yayi has consistently linked infrastructure with human development. He understands that economic growth must be people-centered, and he has complemented these projects with scholarships for indigent students, financial support for market women, tools and training for artisans, and health outreach programs for vulnerable groups.

According to political analyst Kehinde Alamu: “What makes Yayi’s empowerment unique is that it is comprehensive. He doesn’t just give electricity; he supports the businesses that thrive because of it. He doesn’t just build roads; he provides micro-grants so traders can transport goods. That’s why his popularity is rising across the state.”

Beyond infrastructure, Yayi has become a strong advocate of social safety nets which not only cushion economic hardship but also reinforce his reputation as a leader who feels the pulse of the people.
“Yayi is not a distant politician,” says Mrs. Modupe Akinrinade, a trader in Sango market. “He comes to the grassroots and provides solutions from electricity to school fees, from healthcare to market grants. That’s why many of us believe he should be governor in 2027.”

While Yayi hails from Ogun West, his political outreach has gone beyond senatorial and political boundaries. He has built alliances in Ogun Central and Ogun East, fostering inclusiveness in a state where zoning often shapes electoral fortunes. His deliberate efforts to unify diverse communities across Ogun State show his readiness to govern the entire state, not just his senatorial district.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and firm believer in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Yayi is strategically placed to channel federal resources into Ogun State. His alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda also means Ogun could witness a fresh wave of federal infrastructure and industrial projects under his stewardship.

Ordinary citizens across Ogun State are already weighing in on the 2027 race, and many point to Yayi’s interventions as evidence of what he could offer as governor.
• “Yayi gave us light when no one remembered us,” says Mr. Kayode Olowu, a welder in Ota. “Now I can work longer hours and earn more money for my family.”
• “My daughter is in university today because of his scholarship,” adds Mrs. Folake Adeyemi, a widow in Ado-Odo. “Without it, she would have dropped out.”
• “He gave me a sewing machine last year,” says Miss Funke Adebanjo, a youth in Ifo. “Now I make clothes for people and train two apprentices.”

These testimonies underscore why Yayi is not seen as just another politician, but as a leader whose programs touch lives in immeasurable ways.

Analysts argue that Yayi’s broad acceptance, coupled with his track record of service, already positions him as the frontrunner. His ability to combine infrastructure with social safety nets, empowerment with inclusivity, makes him uniquely appealing in a state hungry for results-driven leadership.

“Yayi represents a new template for Ogun politics,” concludes Dr. Oyesanya. “He is the politician who lights up communities, empowers youths, and cushions the vulnerable. That is why he is the popular choice for 2027.”

Ultimately, Yayi’s popularity lies in his fusion of infrastructure, empowerment, and social safety nets. By donating transformers, he brought electricity; by providing scholarships, he invested in the future; by giving stipends and grants, he created economic resilience. This holistic approach to leadership resonates across age groups, genders, and social classes.

As Ogun prepares for 2027, there is no question whether Yayi is a popular choice and whether widespread agitation for him to run for the governorship of Ogun State has become a Movement, not a political rhetoric. Across markets, classrooms, town halls and government institutions, that much is clear and that sentiment dominates.

Court Orders Final Forfeiture of N5bn Shares Linked to Ex-Army Director, Gen. Umar Mohammed.

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of shares worth over N5 billion traced to former Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL), Major General Umar Mohammed, and businessman Kayode Oladipupo Filani.

The order, delivered on Tuesday, followed an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which told the court that the 245,568,137 shares were purchased with proceeds of unlawful activities carried out during Mohammed’s tenure as head of the Army’s property company.

EFCC counsel, Hanatu Kofanaisa, explained that a Special Court Martial had already convicted Mohammed on 14 out of 18 counts of stealing and related offences. She added that the Commission had met all legal requirements for final forfeiture, including the mandatory newspaper publication, without any objection being filed.

In granting the application, Justice Dipeolu held that the EFCC had proved its case and ordered the shares permanently forfeited to the Federal Government, in favour of the Nigerian Army Properties Limited.

The application was brought under Section 44(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

According to court documents, the forfeited shares were held through Rowet Capital Management Limited and Resort Securities & Trust Limited, in the name of Awhua Resources Limited, a company linked to Mohammed.

Okun Nation Decries Deplorable State of Kabba-Isanlu-Egbe-Ilorin Road

The people of Okun in Kogi State have called on President Bola Tinubu and the state Governor, Usman Ododo, to rescue them from the consequences of the deplorable state of the Kabba-Isanlu-Egbe-Ilorin road.

In an open letter written to President Tinubu, and made available to THISDAY yesterday, the people, under the umbrella of Okun Liberty Association (OLA), lamented the negative effects of the deplorable state of the road, calling on the government to urgently commence its rehabilitation in order to save lives and curb insecurity in the state.

In the letter signed by its President-General, Chief Akere Owoniyi, with  the National Assembly and Ministry of Works in copy, the group said: “We, the entire membership of the Okun Liberty Association, a body representing the interests and aspirations of the Okun people of Kogi State, write to you today not just as an association, but as deeply concerned citizens of our beloved nation, with a heavy heart and a fervent plea for your urgent intervention in a matter of critical national importance: the tragic and continued neglect of the Kabba-Isanlu-Egbe-Ilorin Road.”

Describing the road as a national artery in ruins, Chief Owoniyi added: “This 130-kilometre stretch of road, which serves as a vital artery connecting Kogi State to Kwara State and linking the entire North Central region to the Southwest, has been abandoned to disrepair for over a decade. Once a thriving trade and travel route, it has today become a graveyard of commuters, a haven for criminals, and a symbol of national neglect.

“The scale of hardship defies description. This is not simply a road with potholes; it is a catastrophic landscape of collapsed sections, craters, and eroded shoulders. For the ordinary Nigerian farmers, students, traders, and travellers, it is a daily ordeal.”

Lamenting the dire consequences the state of the road has brought to the people , the group said a lot of precious lives have been lost through avoidable accidents almost weekly, as “vehicles overturn, brakes fail, and passengers perish on treacherous terrain. We have buried mothers, fathers, students, and children, innocent lives sacrificed to infrastructure failure.

“Only last month, a commercial bus from Isanlu to Ilorin was ambushed after breaking down in one of the failed sections. Several passengers were abducted, and some lost their lives. These tragedies have become painfully routine.

“It is also a haven for criminality. The impassable state of the road has created isolated pockets where kidnappers and armed robbers operate with impunity. Motorists move in fear, knowing that help from security agencies is delayed by the poor condition of the road.”

It added: “This corridor once enabled farmers to move tons of yams, cassava, and maize to markets in Ilorin, Lagos, Abuja, Lokoja,  and beyond. Today, transport costs have doubled, vehicles are constantly damaged, and post-harvest losses have risen alarmingly. It is estimated that farmers in Yagba and Kabba lose produce worth over N5 billion annually because they cannot reach viable markets. Small businesses are collapsing, and poverty deepens daily.”

Owoniyi, however, stated that fixing the road should be seen as a strategic opportunity for national unity and prosperity, adding: “Your Excellency, the Kabba-Isanlu-Egbe-Ilorin Road is not just a regional road, it is a strategic national asset:

“It serves as a major alternative route to the Lokoja-Okene-Abuja highway, easing congestion into the Federal Capital Territory.

“It opens up the North-central and South-west for robust trade, agriculture, and solid mineral evacuation, and it strengthens inter-regional integration, helping to weave together the fabric of our national unity.

In terms of economic and security value, we dare to submit that this road holds more immediate impact for millions than the much-publicised coastal highway.”

The letter, however, noted that: “We therefore, passionately appeal to Your Excellency to direct the immediate inclusion of the Kabba-Isanlu-Egbe-Ilorin Road in the federal government’s emergency rehabilitation programme. Mandate the Federal Ministry of Works and FERMA to commence palliative measures that will make the road motorable while comprehensive reconstruction is planned.

“Mobilise reputable contractors to the site without delay to begin full reconstruction and deploy dedicated security patrols along the corridor to secure commuters until reconstruction is complete.

It also added that this is a call to leadership and legacy, as “your administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda promises infrastructure renewal, security, and prosperity for all Nigerians. Addressing the plight of this road will be a shining testament to that promise.

“History will remember your leadership as the one that restored life to this vital corridor-saving lives, unlocking economic potential, enhancing national security, and reaffirming the faith of millions in Nigeria’s unity and progress.”

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, yesterday commended the member representing Epe federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Wale Raji, for his commitment to grassroots development through the construction of new schools and other constituency projects within his constituency.

Hamzat, represented by the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, made the remarks yesterday while inaugurating three newly built schools in Oko-Abe (Epe Local Government Area), lege (Lekki Local Council Development Area, and Owu-Ikosi (Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA).

Each of the schools consists of 12 fully furnished classrooms and modern toilet facilities. The events were attended by traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials, and community stakeholders.

The deputy governor described the projects as a remarkable investment in the future of young people in the constituency.

According to him, “These new buildings are more than just bricks and mortar, they are sanctuaries for learning. They represent our commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment for education, free from overcrowding and distractions. These classrooms are a promise, a promise that our children’s future matters to us.”

Hamzat urged teachers and administrators to maximize the facilities for the benefit of students, while encouraging pupils to study hard and pursue excellence.

“A building alone does not make a school; it is the spirit within its walls that truly matters,” he noted.

In his remarks, Hon. Raji said the schools were part of deliberate efforts to ensure that neglected rural and riverine areas receive meaningful development.

“Before now, the allegations were that politicians only show up in remote communities during campaigns and disappear afterwards. But the narrative has changed,” the lawmaker said.

Raji listed previous interventions in his constituency, including solar-powered street lights, roads, bridges to curb flooding, vocational centres, and new classrooms at Oriba Primary School. He emphasized that education remains his top priority.

“When schools are opened, gates to a prison are closed,” he stated.

At the Ilege unveiling, Raji recalled fulfilling earlier requests from the community for transformers, boreholes, and road networks, culminating in the establishment of a new secondary school. Similarly, at Owu-Ikosi, he stressed the need to adequately prepare children for the future through access to quality education.

“These projects are a testament to our resolve to invest in our children and secure their tomorrow,” Raji added.
