A former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Usman Yusuf, has accused state governors of not telling President Bola Tinubu the truth regarding the hunger in Nigeria.

Yusuf insisted that over 80 percent of Nigeria’s problems are caused by state governors.

In an interview on Trust TV, Yusuf said state governors now have more money under Tinubu’s administration but they are not utilizing the funds for the benefit of Nigerians.

He said: “Mr President if they are not telling you the truth, listen to me, I’m telling you the truth that there is hunger in the land.

“Whatever they are telling you is not true and your government is not doing anything at all to address this tragedy that is befalling our people in a country of plenty.

“I heard one of the minister’s said that they have given N419 billion conditional cash transfer. Hello shouldn’t that number make you chuckle? Who did they give it to?

“The President, everybody will commend you after the removal of subsidy, you have enough excess that you keep some in your pocket and you throw some at the governors. The governors have seen a lot more money but there is nothing to show on the ground.

“All they are doing is running around the world, building bridges and building houses all over the world when our people are dying of hunger.

“This is the reality Mr President and if nobody is telling you the reality, we will continue to raise our voice to awaken the conscience of our people and the world.

“Even during Buhari, I said over 80 percent of our problems in Nigeria all across the geopolitical zones are the governors.

“It’s not the central government that will provide employment locally to people, it’s the governors that have stifled the local governments all this time. It’s not the Presidency that would build schools or hospitals.

“Where are they taking all this money to? We don’t see any meaningful development, the President has tried to see that local governments are liberated from the shackles of the governors but how much liberation did we get?

“The governors are still holding onto their funds and we don’t see anything.”

The Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, has formally handed over 128 kidnap victims rescued from bandits’ camps in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State to the state government.

The National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, Maj.-Gen. Adamu Laka, disclosed this while presenting the victims to the NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Laka, the victims were freed during coordinated security operations conducted in two phases earlier in August.

The first batch of 42 people comprising 14 males, 27 females, and a toddler was rescued on August 14. The second group of 88, made up of 34 males and 54 females, was freed on August 19.

“Sadly, among the second group, one child died due to illness, most likely from fatigue suffered during captivity. Also, one of the rescued women gave birth prematurely after the operation, and the newborn is receiving medical attention,” Laka revealed.

He explained that since their rescue, the victims had been in the care of ONSA, where they received medical treatment, psychological support, and rehabilitation.

“With their recovery process ongoing, we are now handing them over to the Zamfara State Government for reintegration with their families and communities,” he added.

The Jigawa State Government has declared Wednesday, August 27, 2025, as a work-free day to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the creation of the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the State Head of Service, Alhaji Muhammad K. Dagaceri, and made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer, Office of the Head of Service, Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse.

The government felicitated with the people of Jigawa and urged them to use the occasion to pray for the state and Nigeria at large.

According to the statement, “It is hoped that all public servants and the entire people of the state will utilise the one-day break in thanking the Almighty Allah for His blessings and for the peaceful coexistence being enjoyed.”

Jigawa was created out of the old Kano State on August 27,1991, by former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of a law lecturer at the Benue State University, Timothy Ornguga, as commissioner.

Recall that Ornguga was rejected last week by the former Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, who resigned days after.

Reading a letter from Governor Hyacinth Alia on Tuesday, the new Speaker, Alfred Berger, screened five more nominees, including the law professor.

Berger said that Alia believes that Ornguga and the others had not been convicted of any crime despite the petitions submitted against their nomination, hence the appeal to clear them.

The lawmakers, who previously rejected the confirmation of the nominees, unanimously kept quiet when the Speaker confirmed the nominees without the usual voice votes.
