The Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared that there is no better place to invest in Africa than Lagos.
Obasa explained that the state has the population and enabling laws for ease of doing business.
He said that for these reasons, Lagos is the best place to invest in Africa.
Obasa spoke in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday.
He spoke when he hosted a delegation from China’s Guangxi Province, led Vice Chairman of Standing Committee of the Guangxi People’s Congress, Zhang Xiaoqin.
Obasa while addressing the gathering explained that Lagos can boast of a population of 200 million people.
The Speaker while speaking further, lauded the delegation’s expression of interest in deepening bilateral ties between Nigeria and China, with Lagos as a focal point.
He said that this underscores the state’s growing geopolitical clout as Africa’s fifth-largest economy and a hub of innovation, commerce, and cultural dynamism.
Obasa said, “Lagos is more than a city – it is a vision of progress. Lagos is the best place to invest in Africa because we have the population and the enabling laws for ease of doing business.
“Our economy is huge and vibrant, one of the biggest in Africa. Whatever you invest here, you will recoup your investment. In the area of tourism, we are still expanding, and every idea is welcome to make us harness our potential.”

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Monday flagged off the contract for the restoration of the Voice of Nigeria’s shortwave transmission using the 250KW TX2 transmitter at the Lugbe transmitting station.
Speaking at the event, the minister, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ogbodo Chinasa Nnam, described the development as a “significant moment in the history of the Voice of Nigeria”.
He described VON as the largest and most powerful transmitting station on the African continent “now equipped with the most modern, digitally compatible technology”.
The minister expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his vision and commitment to the modernization of Nigeria’s broadcasting infrastructure.
“As we take this giant step to flag off the contract for the restoration of Voice of Nigeria’s shortwave transmission using the 250KW superpower transmitter, it is appropriate to express our profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his vision and commitment toward the restoration and modernization of the broadcasting infrastructure of the Voice of Nigeria,” he said.
He further assured Nigerians that the reactivated VON transmitters would transform the nation’s broadcasting landscape.
“Upon completion of this project, the fully reactivated VON transmitters will transform the landscape of terrestrial broadcasting and position VON as a respected brand in global radio broadcasting for good,” the minister said.
Calling on the contractor to deliver quality and timely execution, the minister stressed: “I therefore urge the contractor to not only execute the contract within the agreed timeline but also to ensure that the highest standards and quality are maintained and clearly evident.”
He also charged the VON technical team to demonstrate diligence and competence in overseeing the project.
Idris said VON is expected to continue functioning as a pro-Nigeria and pan-African station dedicated to telling the positive stories coming out of Nigeria and the African continent.

Emore Grammar School Oleh Old Students Association (OSA) is set to hold its 2025 national conference on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the school premises, Oleh in Isoko South Local Government, Delta State.
According to a release signed by OSA National Secretary Dr. Prosper Ahworegba and National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ekebe Emmanuel, the triennial conference will kick off at 9.00a.m with an address by the OSA National President, Prof. Eric Oghonu.
This will be followed by various reports and review of past projects as well as the discussion of the president’s address. The conference tagged, “Coming Home to Where it all Began” will also feature the plans for legacy projects which shall be followed by the dissolution of the National Executive Committee and the election of a new one.
The statement added that the conference will be rounded off with a Gala Night scheduled to run from 7.00 p.m to 10.00 p.m at the same venue.
“The OSA conference is a crucial gathering of Old Students from all sets and branches for fellowship, strategic planning, elections and the advancement of EMOGRAMS which was founded 53 years ago.
Already, some notable OSA members have undertaken the sponsorship of selected items towards the successful hosting of the national conference,” the statement explained.

Led by Professor Michael Ugwuene, MOUAU branch chairman, the ASUU members cried out that the Federal Government refused to implement the renegotiated 2009 agreement it had with the academic union.
The protesting lecturers who said they have been on the same salary scale for 15 years, said they embarked on the nationwide protest as a final ultimatum before a strike action.
“Our professors are not taking more than N500,000 as monthly salaries. They are still owing us three and half years salary arrears even when we have already graduated the students,” Ugwuene said.
Also speaking, professors Uzochukwu Onyebinama and Marbel Ifeoma Onwuka declared that ASUU members will down tools unless the Federal Government responds to their demands.
They slammed the Federal Government’s Tertiary Institution Staff Support Funds, TISSF loan, describing it as a big scam.
DAILY POST correspondent who witnessed the protest, observed that some students were seen begging the Federal Government to settle with ASUU to prevent the looming strike.

Over a thousand supporters of a former presidential candidate and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, yesterday stormed the venue of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, demanding that he declare interest in the 2027 presidential election.
The jubilant crowd, clad in colorful vests and face caps, carried bold banners and sang solidarity songs in support of the business mogul and politician, describing him as “a credible alternative and a unifier the nation urgently needs at this critical time.”
The rally was coordinated by three major support groups: Hashim Unity Group, led by Hon. Musa Makanda, former Speaker of Bwari Area Council; The Hashims, led by Mr. Sunday Tsado; and Hashim Advocates led by Mallam Abba, former PDP youth leader in the FCT in 1999.
Speaking at the gathering, the group leaders said Dr. Hashim embodies the finest qualities of leadership within the PDP vision, integrity, and a consistent track record of advocacy for democracy and good governance.
They urged the party leadership to emulate his political conduct and prepare him as the PDP flag bearer ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a related development, PDP youth leaders from the 36 states of Nigeria had, in the past week, formally welcomed Dr. Hashim to the party. The youths also called on other party leaders to emulate him in his support for the youths of the party as the PDP prepares for 2027.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared that the permanent voter card, PVC, is the only instrument for the people to elect leaders of their choice.
Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Oyo State, Dr Adeniran Rahmon Tella made the declarations while addressing journalists at a press conference to herald the commencement of Continuous Voter Registration exercise in the state.
Tella maintained that the PVC is the only tool for people to elect leaders of their choice.
He also advised the people not to surrender their PVCs to anyone, noting that it is the tool they can use to shape the future of the state.
According to him, the Continuous Voter Registration exercise will last for a period of one year.
Tella charged the media to support the Commission by disseminating accurate information in respect of the ongoing exercise.
He said, “Your PVC is the license to elect leaders of your choice. It is your tool for shaping the future of our State. Do not therefore surrender your power to decide.
“The Commission, resumed online registration last Monday, the 18th August 2025 with closely 66,951 (4.85%) Nigerians completing online pre-registration within the first week resumption in Oyo State. This impressive response shows a clear indication that Nigerians remain eager to participate in democratic process.
“It ensures that the outcome of any election truly reflects the will of the people. This sensitization campaign is therefore an investment in the legitimacy of our future electoral processes, both at the State and local levels.
“I would therefore charge you to be a veritable channel for disseminating accurate information about the CVR process, set the agenda for democratic participation through your editorials, reports and programmes, help counter misinformation and fake news that may arise during the exercise and hold us accountable and report challenges observed at registration centers to ensure that the commission improve in its service delivery.”

Security forces deployed to the communities of Ifelodun local government council area of Kwara state have been reportedly killed dozens of suspected bandits that have been terrorising the people of the area for past few weeks.
THISDAY checks investigations revealed that coordinated security forces were said to have invaded the hideouts and killed the bandits instantly.
Sources said that the security forces with joint efforts of vigilance groups of the area were said to have launched a renewed attacks against the suspected bandits in their various hideouts around Baba Sango and Oro River, near Babanla in xIfelodun Local Government Area of the state.Multiple security sources told journalists yesterday that the
Operation to flush out the suspected bandits from the state was said to have started on Sunday night and lasted through to yesterday morning.
A senior security officer, who sought anonymity, told journalists yesterday that “the security forces made inroads into their hideouts, they launched a feeble ambush which was immediately resisted by the security agents.”
“Many of the criminals were killed in the process. No death was recorded on the part of the security forces.
“Those who were injured are already being attended to in a designated hospital in the state.”
Another source said air assets were also deployed as part of the operation, underscoring the commitment of the government to rid the large forested area of the violent elements who had been targeting unarmed civilians in nearby communities.
The security officer therefore, appealed to the residents of the state to remain calm as all efforts have been made to flush out bandits from the state.
