The Federal Government has rejected President Donald Trump designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern”.
The government said these claims do not reflect the situation on the ground.
A statement by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, explained that Nigerians of all faiths have long lived, worked, and worshipped together peacefully.
He stressed that the President Bola Tinubu administration remains committed to fighting terrorism, strengthening interfaith harmony, and protecting the lives and rights of all its people.
Ebienfa said the country will continue to engage constructively with the Government of the United States, with the essence to deepen mutual understanding of regional dynamics and the country’s ongoing peace and security efforts.
The statement read: “The Federal Government of Nigeria notes the recent remarks by U.S. President Donald J. Trump alleging large-scale killings of Christians in Nigeria and calling for the country’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
“While Nigeria appreciates global concern for human rights and religious freedom, these claims do not reflect the situation on the ground. Nigerians of all faiths have long lived, worked, and worshipped together peacefully.
“Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria remains committed to fighting terrorism, strengthening interfaith harmony, and protecting the lives and rights of all its people.
“Nigeria will continue to engage constructively with the Government of the United States to deepen mutual understanding of regional dynamics and the country’s ongoing peace and security efforts.”

The Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has dissociated himself from a recent report in the media attributing his rumoured arrest to the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.
In a statement signed by his Senior Advocate on Media, Willie Etim, the NDDC boss condemned in very strong terms the news report attributed to a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ogbuku further condemned the alleged report which insinuated a rift between himself and the governor, and cautioned that there is no rivalry in the APC family in Bayelsa State.
“It is also important to clarify that any comments or opinions expressed by anyone on political matters in Bayelsa State should be regarded strictly as their personal views and not as a representation of the views or position of Dr. Ogbuku.
“The attempt to link the governor to political controversies or rumours of arrest is both misleading, mischievous and unnecessary,” Etim stated.
The statement added, “We want to use this medium to express our sincere apology for any embarrassment the publications may have caused the governor and call on all party faithful to exercise restraint in public commentary, especially when such remarks could mislead the public or misrepresent facts.”

The Chief Executive Officer, IHK Giessen-Friedberg Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Matthias Leder, has applauded the pivotal role of Nigeria’s former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in helping its organisation expand the quality and reach of vocational training in Nigeria.
This, he said, resulted in measurable impacts on youth employment, technical education, and business competitiveness.
Leder’s commendation came during a virtual press conference preceding the arrival of a delegation of IHK
Giessen-Friedberg on November 2 for a two-week visit to Nigeria.
He stated that since 2005, IHK Giessen-Friedberg worked closely with Nigerian chambers and associations to expand the quality and reach of vocational training, with measurable impacts on youth employment, technical education, and business competitiveness.
“This enduring relationship has grown significantly in recent years—thanks to the pivotal role played by Nigeria’s former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, whose leadership helped elevate the cooperation to a new strategic level
“Over the past two years alone, IHK Giessen-Friedberg has undertaken two official missions annually to Nigeria.
“Similarly, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has twice participated in Giessen’s prestigious international B2B conference, ‘The World Meets in Giessen’, first as a keynote speaker and later as a panelist.
“These engagements have deepened the mutual understanding between both nations and opened new avenues for investment, trade, and skills transfer,” he said.
Leder reaffirmed IHK Giessen-Friedberg’s longstanding commitment to strengthening vocational training, institutional development, and private sector cooperation with Nigeria.
“This follows two decades of sustained partnership between the IHK and key Nigerian institutions in promoting youth skills development, entrepreneurship, and international business collaboration,” he said.
He disclosed that the 2025 edition of the World Meets in Giessen International B2B Conference, envisioned as ‘the Davos for SMEs’, will host participants from 14 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, including Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, India, and Brazil.
According to him, the event, featuring keynote sessions, expert panels, AI-enabled business match-making, and international tenders is now emerging as a global meeting point for small and medium enterprises.
“Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who was the keynote speaker in 2024 on ‘The Event Industry as an Emerging Sector in Nigeria’, will again participate as a panelist in 2025,” Leder said.

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria, NCSCN, has intervened in the controversy surrounding the 2025 staff promotion exercise of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, calling on aggrieved staff members to explore internal mechanisms of seeking redress for perceived injustice, rather than embarking on campaigns of calumny against the organisation.
While attributing the controversy to actions of internal saboteurs within the organisation, who used the examination to cast aspersions on the NCC leadership, the CSO warned that it would not hesitate to publicly expose such characters if they fail to tow the path of reason.
In a statement issued by the NCSCN Executive Director, Blessing Akinlosotu, the Council said it received a series of petitions and media reports complaining about the conduct of the NCC’s promotional examinations under the Executive Vice Chairman, Dr Aminu Maida.
It said the NCSCN, launched an independent inquiry, engaged the accused and directly confronted the management of the commission. It said following an investigation into the allegations, it, however, found no grievous issues of victimisation or deliberate marginalisation as alleged, but unavoidable circumstances resulting from institutional frameworks and natural factors.
The statement said the NCSCN found that the promotion exams were open to all eligible staff without exclusion, interview panels were drawn from all six geopolitical zones and included external observers, the outcome of the exams reflected the Commission’s vacancy structure and manpower plan, no deliberate marginalisation or breach of Federal Character was established and some qualified staff could not be promoted due to limited available positions.
It read, ‘‘The Examination was conducted in line with the Public Service Rules, the Commission’s organisational structure and manpower plan, with each cadre having a predetermined number of vacancies conforming with the number of personnel the Commission could accommodate at each level.
“The promotion exams were conducted for all cadres of staff eligible for promotion in the Commission, without exclusion of anyone.
“The interview panels were composed of competent management staff drawn from each of the six (6) Geo-Political Zones, with independent external members and representatives from the Federal Character Commission (FCC), to provide oversight and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
“Some Staff actually passed the Exams and were well qualified but suffered setbacks as a result of the unavailability of vacancies to accommodate all.
“That no laws were broken during the exercise, instead the promotion process followed clear and objective scoring framework, which was communicated to all participants ahead of the exams.’’
The Council also acknowledged that some technical and logistical hitches occurred during the conduct of the exams, including long hours and scheduling during religious fasting periods, but described them as administrative lapses rather than acts of victimisation.
Akinlosotu urged protesting staff to show remorse and embrace dialogue and appealed to the NCC leadership to exercise forgiveness and ensure no staff is dismissed over this controversy.
She also cautioned the media against sensationalising internal administrative matters, urging journalists to uphold professionalism and verify facts before publication.
“The media carries the potency to either build or destroy an institution. We must all exercise caution and self-restraint in reporting sensitive issues,” she added.
The NCSCN emphasised that while it remains committed to fighting injustice and promoting transparency in public institutions, civil society organisations must not allow themselves to be used as tools for internal vendettas or destabilisation. “This matter should now be laid to rest,” the Council advised.
