Reno Omokri slams Peter Obi over silence on Trump’s threat to send troops to Nigeria

Social commentator, Reno Omokri has criticised Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi for maintaining silence amid the controversy surrounding U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to deploy troops to Nigeria over alleged Christian genocide.

Trump had recently designated Nigeria as a “Country of Concern” and suggested possible military action to “flush out terrorists,” sparking intense debate both locally and internationally.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Omokri expressed disapproval over Obi’s silence, describing it as “deeply suspicious” and unbecoming of a national leader.

“Nigeria and Nigerians must never forget the loud silence of Peter Obi during this time of crisis for our dear nation,” Omokri wrote. “No good leader goes underground when the sound of thunder threatens his country, unless he is the one who pointed the finger in the first place.”

Onokri alleged that Obi’s refusal to comment could be interpreted as tacit support for the U.S. president’s controversial remarks.

“His silence is very pregnant with meaning, collusion, and approval. A man who has an opinion on everything suddenly goes quiet. That is a most suspicious and inauspicious silence,” Omokri added.

Trump: You can’t use old information to judge Nigerian govt – Presidency

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has said the US president cannot use old information to judge the Nigerian government.

Bwala stated this on Monday, while responding to questions in an interview on TVC news, in reaction to the recent declaration of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern by President Trump.

“Barely three months ago, the American government commended Nigeria for the arrest of Usman Mohammed, also known as Khalid Al-Barnawi, leader of the Ansaru terrorist group and one of the most wanted terrorists in the world.

“The US Embassy in Nigeria equally praised our government’s remarkable progress in the fight against terrorism.

“How then can the same government that acknowledged our success just months ago now take a contradictory position based on outdated reports and past events?

“You cannot use obsolete information to judge an administration that has demonstrated clear commitment and tangible results in securing our nation,” he said.
