Fear has gripped residents of Tombo Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State over the killing of a former councilor, Mr. Atindiga Tsebee, in an ambush by suspected armed herdsmen.

The incident occurred over the weekend along the Ayilamo–Anyiin road near Tsukwa Village, while the deceased was returning from a security meeting convened to address rising insecurity and attacks in the area.

According to sources, the attackers ambushed the vehicle in which the victim was travelling and opened fire on the occupants.

“The vehicle belonged to another community leader, Zaki Terngu Iorhuna.

“They were returning from a security meeting to discuss the spate of attacks in the communities when the armed herdsmen ambushed and opened fire on them, killing Tsebee on the spot,” the source said.

The attack has thrown the community into mourning and heightened tension over renewed attacks.

Residents are said to have deserted the community for fears of reprisal assaults, while community leaders have called for increased military presence to prevent further violence in the area.

As of the time of filling this report, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP, Udeme Edet could not be reached to confirm the incident.

The Berom Youths Moulder Association (BYM) has decried Saturday’s attack in Kwi Community of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, carried out by suspected Fulani militants, where about seven persons were killed and several others injured.

The invasion of the community, which took place at about 10:30 pm, came on the heels of the killing of one Kurang Daniel, who was shot on his farm earlier in the day.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the BYM President, Dalyop Mwantiri, and Secretary-General, Bature Adazaram, the group alleged that the attackers often presented false claims of attacks on herdsmen as justification to unleash violence on Berom communities.

The BYM said the Kwi attack was unprovoked despite claims by a Fulani group that some Berom youths had earlier attacked them, killing five herders and over 50 cows.

“Information available to the Berom Youths Moulder Association has it that Fulani had falsely framed up usual lies and fallacies to security operatives, claiming that the natives of Kwi attacked their cows, which has not been proved, as no trace of any cow touched or herder attacked up to the time of filing this report has been factually established after a thorough search to ascertain such claim,” the BYM statement read.

It, however, debunked the claims, saying it was one of the strategies and ruses the Fulani militias employ whenever they want to attack any village.

The BYM added that Fulani groups often employ the services of a certain security expert who uses his X platform to push their propaganda that they are the victims when they are actually the aggressors.

The association expressed concern over what it described as a pattern in which deadly attacks appear to follow meetings between Fulani and Berom representatives at security offices.

The group cited a recent ambush on community and youth leaders who were ambushed and attacked while returning from a security meeting at the Sector 4 Headquarters, in which four people were killed, two were injured, and two went missing.

The association also appealed to security forces, particularly Sector 4 of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), to take decisive action.

“The Berom Youths Moulder Association is passionately appealing to Sector 4 Operation Enduring Peace to use all its arsenals and professionalism to arrest the Fulani who made such baseless and misleading calls, as well as claims, for onward investigation and necessary prosecution,” the statement said.

The BYM warned that the threat to the Berom people will persist unless more robust measures are taken against Fass and other areas where suspected militants are believed to have established safe havens.

The Kano State Government has approved over ₦9.8 billion for the execution of various road, flood control, and renovation projects across the state.

The approval was made during the 33rd meeting of the State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Speaking while briefing journalists on the outcome of the meeting, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, said the projects were part of the government’s effort to improve infrastructure and the living conditions of residents.

Among the approved projects, Wayya said, is the installation of solar-powered streetlights at Kwankwasiyya City, which will cost ₦339,644,836.05, and the construction of hydraulic structures along the Kwanar Durba–Fammar–Konau–Kure Road in Kibiya Local Government Area (Phase II) at ₦207,174,230.95.

He also disclosed that ₦277,452,289.48 was approved for renovation and construction works at the Audu Bako Secretariat (Phase II), while ₦393,334,675.71 was set aside for general renovation works at the State Ministry of Works.

Similarly, the commissioner said the council approved ₦219,951,530.82 for the construction of a dwarf fence and entrance gate at a plot adjacent to Gidan Fiat, Naibawa, Zaria Road, and ₦2,633,028,973.31 for the construction of the Dambatta–Gwarabjawa Road in Dambatta Local Government Area.

According to him, ₦810,824,310.98 was also approved for the installation of road studs on selected roads within Kano Metropolis, while ₦388,517,336.52 was earmarked for flood control works at Baban Gwari Roundabout along Katsina Road.

“Additionally, the sum of ₦185,430,198.66 was approved for maintenance works along Karaye–Rogo Road (Damagari Phase II), and ₦2,471,436,590.12 for the supply and installation of 4-way intersection traffic lights across major roads in Kano State,” Waiya said.

He added that ₦135,324,750.00 was approved for the supply and installation of all-in-one solar-powered streetlights at Ado Bayero Square, New Road, Sabon Gari, and surrounding areas.

Waiya further revealed that the total approvals by the council amounted to over ₦19 billion, covering projects in various sectors including Works and Infrastructure, Education, Health, Water Resources, and Renewable Energy.

“This government remains focused on transparency, accountability, and improving the quality of life for the people of Kano State,” the commissioner stated.

Public affairs commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has criticised United States President, Donald Trump over his recent threat to launch military action in Nigeria under the guise of protecting Christians.

In a post shared on X on Sunday night, Shehu described Trump as a war monger and accused America of hypocrisy in matters of religion, morality, human rights, and democracy.

He said Trump’s claim of defending persecuted Christians in Nigeria was nothing but faith pretence and hypocrisy.

“There is no better pretender about religion, morality, equality, human rights, justice and democracy than America, and now along with its blood-thirsty Hollywood actor, Trump,” Shehu wrote.

He added that the U.S. has failed to deal with its own internal problems but constantly interferes  in the affairs of other nations.

“With a series of terror attacks and daily killings of its citizens, America is unable to alert its own people but has the effrontery to create a false sense of concern for others,” he said.

Shehu accused America of promoting instability across the world, recalling that from 1945 to date, the U.S. has directly or through funded and armed proxies killed millions of Christians of all sects and denominations not in Jesus’ name but under selfish and sadistic motives.

He said America exports a different brand of democracy to Africa and pretends to care about human rights while supporting monarchies elsewhere because crude oil is sweet and arms sales are profitable.

Shehu further alleged that America gives safe haven to stolen funds from weaker nations but continues to blame them for poor development.

The activist warned that Trump’s so-called defense of Christians could cause religious tension and conflict in Nigeria.

“In the process of killing Islamic terrorists in Nigeria, American drones and war planes will end up targeting Islamic clerics, Muslim-dominated settlements, mosques, and madrasas,” he said.

According to him, the true goal of America’s new love for Christians is to destabilize Nigeria, install puppets, and exploit the country’s natural resources.

“The whole aim of America’s ‘new love for Christians’ is to create war in Nigeria, destroy it as a potential regional power, install stooges, rule by proxy, and extract endless raw materials for their satisfaction,” Shehu stated.

He likened America’s actions to its role in other conflict-ridden countries such as Guatemala, Nicaragua, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iran.

“When one recalls these countries, one cannot stop seeing America as the Devil Incarnate,” Shehu wrote.

He accompanied the post with a picture of President Trump in court, alleging that he was docked for inciting criminal violence and undermining democracy in the U.S.

The Methodist Bishop of Item Diocese, Abia State, Rt. Rev. Ikechukwu Emezi Nkulo has advised the Federal government and governors in the country to urgently activate employment mechanisms that will address the rising unemployment among youths.

Nkulo, who said this on Sunday in Umuahia, noted that gainful employment of youths would address issues of banditry, unknown gunmen and kidnappings ravaging Nigerian communities.

Bishop Nkulo spoke at the Vision Africa Radio talent show 2025 in Umuahia.

He said that the tension created around the country by insecurity would be diffused if the attention of Nigeria’s teeming youth population is channelled to the right activities.

He expressed concern about the level of economic hardship that poor Nigerians are passing through, blaming the situation on selfishness and aggrandizement among the leaders at various levels.

“Governance is not all about aggrandizement, the populace need to be employed and that should be done urgently to diffuse tension around the country.
