He said: “We can put our heads together to bring this party to where it belongs to, we all know that the slogan of the PDP is power to the people. Under my leadership as acting National chairman of our great party, I will do everything possible to make sure that each and everyone understands why it’s very important to put our house together for the progress of this our great party and Nigeria at large.

“We all know that the electorates are looking up to our party because this is the only party that has hope and under my leadership we are going to bring the party back to its people.

“We are all aware of the current issues surrounding the party and for the past eight years, we all know the current challenges we have been facing.

“Under my leadership from the ward to the state chapters to zones and national must be in line with the constitution of the party to make sure that every member is carried along.

“This is not a time to blame each other but a time for all of us to come together for the progress of this party because we don’t have any political party more than the PDP. I will work with my team and the party to make sure that we reach where we are supposed to reach within a short period of time.”

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has reacted to the designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” by US President Donald Trump.

This is even as ADC blamed President Bola Tinubu’s administration for worsening insecurity and weakening Nigeria’s global standing.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, on Monday, the party said thousands of Nigerians have lost their lives to insecurity under Tinubu’s watch, describing the situation as a national tragedy that transcends tribe, religion, or region.

“The statement by President Trump reminds us of the greater global concern about the sanctity of human life and the responsibility of governments to protect their citizens,” the ADC said. “Sadly, it is in this most sacred mandate that the Tinubu administration has failed most.”

According to the party, over 15,000 people have been killed in violent incidents since the President took office in 2023, with attacks spreading across the country.

The ADC cited the October 31 attack in Kwara State by JNIM, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, as evidence that terrorism has expanded from the northern regions toward the south.

“The crisis we face is not about any ethnic or religious group being targeted; it is an existential crisis that endangers all Nigerians,” the statement said. “The Tinubu government has refused to acknowledge that the situation has worsened, and instead offers excuses and political posturing.”

The party also accused the administration of neglecting Nigeria’s diplomatic and foreign policy responsibilities, including the failure to appoint ambassadors to key countries more than two years into its tenure. It said this neglect has eroded Nigeria’s influence within ECOWAS and the African continent.

“Under President Tinubu, Nigeria has declined both as a continental and regional leader,” the ADC said. “A region that once looked up to us for leadership now watches us fumble with our own domestic crises.”

The party recommended an overhaul of the country’s security apparatus, the immediate appointment of ambassadors, and a foreign policy reset focused on national interests rather than “personal promotion.” It also called for economic reforms aimed at stabilizing prices and improving welfare for citizens.

While acknowledging the concerns raised by Trump and other world leaders, the ADC cautioned against foreign military intervention, warning that such action could harm Nigeria’s democratic development and stability.

“We appreciate the concern of the American president and other world leaders. However, mobilizing armed troops or even threatening to do so would be counterproductive. Nigeria is not beyond saving, but time is running out. We must act now with courage and commitment to protect the lives and dignity of every Nigerian.”

The development was announced in a statement posted on X on Monday by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA.

According to the statement, the decision was reached following the disruption caused by the overturned tanker on the main carriageway, which led to major traffic delays in the area.

It read: “The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation wishes to inform motorists that due to a truck accident at the Chisco area, Lekki, the Federal Ministry of Works has approved the opening of the Coastal Road for use pending when normalcy is restored. Motorists are implored to be patient while plying the area.”

The statement was signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and exercise caution while navigating the alternative route.

Earlier on Monday, LASTMA had confirmed that its officers, in collaboration with emergency responders, successfully prevented what could have been a major fire disaster after the gas-laden tanker overturned on the busy Victoria Island-bound carriageway.

The agency noted that recovery operations were ongoing and assured the public that traffic would return to normal as soon as the tanker was safely evacuated.

As part of efforts to curb air pollution and promote environmental sustainability, the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, FCTA, is mobilizing young people, especially students in secondary and tertiary institutions, to take the lead in protecting the environment for future generations.

The initiative, convened by Ms. Daniella Olayinka, a young Rotaractor (Rotaract Club of Omole Golden, District 9111) and behavioral advocate, will involve visits to schools and campuses across the FCT to educate students on environmental protection and the upcoming “Breathe Clean Air Abuja” project.

Declaring the youth-focused advocacy campaign open in Abuja on Monday, the Mandate Secretary, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, announced that the Secretariat is collaborating with Rotaract Clubs in the city, including the Rotaract Club of Abuja Maitama, Rotaract Club of Apo FCT, and Rotaract Club of Abuja Wuse II, along with other stakeholders, to sensitize young people on the dangers of air pollution and the importance of adopting clean energy solutions, with members of these clubs expected to join the outreach efforts to further expand the campaign’s reach and impact among young people.

Fasawe said: “We recognize the critical role of young people as agents of change, especially on issues that affect our planet. That’s why we are partnering with the Education Secretariat and other stakeholders to ensure students are included in this important campaign.”

The campaign will employ interactive and creative approaches to engage the youth, including competitions, debates, poem recitations, talent hunts, social media challenges, and the formation of environmental clubs.

These activities aim to inspire environmental responsibility, promote behavioral change, and encourage innovation among students.

Incentives and prizes will also be given to outstanding participants to further motivate their involvement.

The campaign will focus on raising awareness about the dangers of charcoal and firewood stoves, encouraging the switch to cleaner cooking methods using Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and promoting habits that protect the environment from pollution and hazardous substances.

The Breathe Clean Air Abuja project, scheduled for launch on November 13, is a flagship public-private partnership initiative under the FCTA.

It aims to replace traditional firewood stoves with gas stoves and reach over 5,000 households across the six area councils of the FCT, particularly in underserved communities.

Speaking on behalf of the youth, Ms. Olayinka reaffirmed their readiness to support the Secretariat in spreading awareness and inspiring behavioral change.

She highlighted key focus areas such as tree planting, carpooling, switching to LPG, avoiding open burning of refuse, and promoting the use of eco-friendly products.

The project’s theme, “Renewing Hope, One Household at a Time,” reflects FCTA’s commitment to building a healthier, cleaner, and more sustainable Abuja through youth-driven advocacy and community engagement.
