He made this known while addressing members of his church in Akure, the Ondo State Capital last night.

According to Pastor Giwa: “Nigeria was designated as a Country of Particular Concern by the United States. Before America will designate any country, you should know that they have enough evidence to prove that.

“In 2020, I wrote a three-page letter to former President Donald Trump during his first term. I asked him to have mercy on Nigerians, especially Christians because the way Boko Haram terrorists, Fulani terrorists, were killing our Christian brothers in Northern Nigeria was surprising. Trump ought to have designated Nigeria since 2020.”

He recounted how the late former President Muhammadu Buhari downplayed the letter then.

“I wrote the three-page letter then while in the US, you can Google it. When the story came out, the then president, Buhari was demanding for my head. He said I was lying that nothing of such happened,” he said.

Pastor also listed some Christian leaders who were killed by Boko Haram terrorists in Northern Nigeria.

He added: “I came up yesterday to bring out a few names among the Christian leaders Fulani terrorists have killed so far in Nigeria. They have killed thousands of Christians.

“Rev Bala Galadima was killed by Boko Haram, Rev Lawal Andimi was executed. They asked him are you still going to believe in Jesus Christ? We want you to denounce your faith that you are not serving Jesus Christ again. Despite tying his hands, he insisted that he would serve Jesus Christ till death and he was beheaded.

“Pastor Clement Ukwu was killed, Father Joseph Bako was killed, Christopher Godiya was also killed, Father Isaac Ajim was killed, Rev Michael and others were killed in this Nigeria and nothing happened.

“The people who killed them, the government was giving them amnesty, they called them repentant Boko Haram. They now employed them into the Nigerian Army.

“I want to commend Trump for this bold step that his government has taken to designate Nigeria as Country of Particular Concern. They are angry now but don’t be surprised, America may order a military invasion.”

On Friday, according to a source, around 8:00 pm, the gunmen invaded the community and started shooting sporadically, thereby forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes for their safety.

The entire community, he explained, was gripped with panic as gunshots echoed from different directions for several minutes without any immediate response from security personnel.

The Paramount Chief of Chawai, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad, also confirmed the incident, saying that five persons were shot dead on the spot, while two others who were critically injured later died.

He explained that the incident has heightened tension in the area, but also confirmed that normalcy has been restored due to the presence of military personnel in the community.

He said, “We’ve urged our people to remain calm and allow the security agencies to carry out their diligent work to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended.”

The gunmen, DAILY POST learnt, opened fire indiscriminately on villagers who were either retiring to bed or still engaged in evening activities.

The incident has heightened fear across neighbouring settlements in the Chawai axis of Kauru LGA, which has witnessed incessant armed assaults, kidnappings, and killings in recent months.

No official statement has been issued by any security agency as efforts made to reach the Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Mansir Hassan, failed.

The Muslim Public Affairs Centre, MPAC, Nigeria, has criticized the United States government’s decision to again list Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, CPC, describing the move as politically motivated and harmful to Nigeria’s unity and international image.

In a statement released on weekend, MPAC accused U.S. President Donald Trump of “weaponizing religion” through the designation, which the organization said was based on misleading claims of widespread persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

Signed by MPAC Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, it said the label “rests on a false narrative” that overlooks the complex realities of Nigeria’s security challenges.

“Nigeria’s crisis is multifaceted, driven by factors such as corruption, terrorism, regional geopolitics, and resource competition, not religion,” Kamor said.

The group argued that the U.S. administration, along with evangelical allies in Congress and some “local collaborators,” were “fueling sectarian suspicion” by portraying Nigeria’s insecurity as religious persecution.

MPAC warned that such narratives could deepen mistrust among faith communities and threaten the country’s fragile social cohesion.

MPAC urged the Nigerian government to respond firmly by rejecting the CPC designation and diplomatically challenging what it called an “unfair and politically charged” decision.

The organization also called for an investigation into allegations by a U.S. Congressman that USAID an American government agency may have been involved in funding Boko Haram, saying the claim, if true, would expose “the hypocrisy of those claiming to save Nigeria while contributing to its destabilization.”

The Muslim advocacy group further called for vigilance against “false-flag operations” intended to portray Nigeria as a nation divided along religious lines, while encouraging stronger interfaith cooperation and justice institutions to protect citizens regardless of faith.

MPAC noted that both Muslim and Christian communities have suffered heavily from violence in various parts of the country, and accused foreign actors of selectively focusing on Christian victims while ignoring attacks on Muslim populations in states such as Borno, Zamfara, Niger, Sokoto, and Katsina.

“The narrative of ‘Christian genocide’ pushed from abroad is a gross insult to the shared suffering of Nigerians. Nigeria’s problems are solvable through justice, good governance, and unity — not through foreign interference dressed in missionary language,” the statement said.

MPAC reaffirming its commitment to justice, fairness, and national sovereignty, urging Nigerians to “see through the manipulation” and remain united against attempts to divide the nation along religious lines.

The Lagos State Government has announced that all commercial buildings exceeding two floors will now be required to carry compulsory insurance coverage as part of ongoing efforts to enhance urban safety, planning compliance, and risk management across the state.

The policy was revealed at the 2025 Real Estate Discussions and Awards held in Lagos, an event organised by Thinkmint Nigeria, where stakeholders in housing, land administration, and urban planning gathered to discuss emerging trends in the real estate sector.

Delivering one of the keynote presentations, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Enterprise Geographic Information System, E-GIS, and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Babatunde, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming land administration and physical development through technology, transparency, and sustainable practices.

According to him, the state, working with international development partners, has completed a comprehensive digital mapping of Lagos to support the full rollout of the E-GIS.

The new platform, he said, will enable instant land searches, digital certification, online applications, and real-time verification of property ownership and planning approvals.

“Lagos will soon commence compulsory insurance for all multi-storey commercial buildings above two floors. The state will also begin land and building regularisation through a 300-property pilot scheme in Epe,” Babatunde said.

He added that a new electronic planning permit system will allow compliant developers to obtain building approvals in as little as 10 minutes, a move aimed at drastically reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks and curbing corruption in the approval process.

Babatunde, however, warned against double allocations, forged survey documents, and unapproved constructions, revealing that the government has begun a statewide physical planning audit. Non-compliant developers, he stressed, would face strict penalties.

He urged property owners, investors, and residents to verify all land titles, survey plans, and building permits before engaging in any transaction, saying the government remains committed to ensuring orderliness and legal compliance in land use and development.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains fully committed to expanding access to land for sustainable development. Through the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, we have intensified regeneration efforts in Katangua, the relocation of Okobaba sawmillers to Agboyi, and several site-and-service projects designed to optimise land utilisation,” he said.

He also disclosed that Lagos currently operates under multiple inherited land title regimes, including Queen’s Titles, Federal Titles, and State Titles, and that the government is now consolidating them into a single transparent land ownership framework to eliminate duplication and strengthen investor confidence.

Corroborating Babatunde’s remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical and Urban Development, Olumide Sotire, emphasised the need for stronger inter-agency collaboration and professional compliance to manage Lagos’s rapid urbanisation.

He noted that population growth and internal migration have led to unplanned settlements and mounting pressure on housing and infrastructure, calling for strict adherence to physical planning regulations to ensure orderly and sustainable city growth.

Sotire highlighted ongoing projects such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos-Badagry Expressway expansion, and the Lagos Rail and Water Transport Systems as catalysts for new investment corridors and regional integration.

He also advocated green architecture, climate-resilient infrastructure, and smart city designs, describing sustainability as the foundation of Lagos’s future planning vision. He also noted that the E-GIS system would be pivotal in promoting transparency, efficiency, and accountability in land management across the state.
