The Federal Government of Nigeria has said that President Bola Tinubu remains calm despite threats from United States President Donald Trump over the security situation in Nigeria.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this on Tuesday while speaking with journalists shortly after meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Idris reaffirmed Tinubu’s commitment to making Nigeria safer for all citizens, regardless of tribe, religion, or any other differences.

“Mr President is calm. He is looking at the whole situation; he is looking at the ways and means of ensuring that the international community understands what we have been doing.

“Only last week or two weeks ago, Mr President in his own desire to rekindle the security architecture of the country, reinvigorated the hierarchy of the armed forces.

“A new Chief of Defence Staff and other service chiefs were appointed. Now, this is all the issues that came out of the United States. So, that tells you that Mr President has been working assiduously to ensure that Nigeria is a country that remains safer for all Nigerians to live in,” the minister said.

The conviction was delivered by Honourable Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, under Charge No. KWS/64C/2022.

The case originated from a petition submitted to the ICPC by Ilorin-based legal practitioner F. F. Ikebundu, Esq., of Ayo Ajomole & Co.

Investigations by the Commission revealed that the defendant falsified his date of birth to unlawfully extend his years of service, thereby conferring an undue advantage upon himself.

Prosecuting counsels to the ICPC, Kalu Ugbo and Zainab Moshood, informed the court that the defendant’s fraudulent actions led to the receipt of unearned salaries and allowances amounting to N1,233,258.95 between 2019 and 2020.

Specifically, Count One, relating to the defendant’s corrupt act of altering his date of birth at the National Population Commission to prolong his years of service in the public sector, constitutes an offence contrary to Section 25(1)(a) and punishable under Section 25(1)(b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.

Count Two similarly charged the defendant with contravening Section 25(1)(a), punishable under Section 25(1)(b) of the same Act.

The charge detailed that the defendant made a false statement on oath in an affidavit dated February 15, 2012, in which he maintained a falsified date of birth, November 11, 1964, instead of November 11, 1959 and used it to alter his official records at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development since joining the service in 1997.

Count Three read: “That you, Dare Adebowale Oladapo, on or about the months of December 2019 to April 2020 at Ilorin, Kwara State, as Deputy Director in the service of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, used your said office to confer unfair advantage upon yourself in the sum of N1,233,258.95k (one million, two hundred and thirty-three thousand, two hundred and fifty-eight naira, ninety-five kobo), being salaries and allowances earned by you from December 2019 to April 2020 when you ought to have retired from the public service but manipulated your record to extend your service years, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.”

After a thorough trial, Justice Yusuf found Mr Oladapo guilty on counts One and Two for making a false statement and conferring a corrupt advantage upon himself, in violation of Section 25(1)(a) and punishable under Section 25(1)(b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.

However, the court discharged and acquitted him on Count Three.

Consequently, the court sentenced the defendant to two years’ imprisonment, with an option of a N100,000 fine on each of the two counts.

In addition, the court ordered him to refund the total sum of N1,233,258.95 to the Federal Government, representing the salaries and allowances he unlawfully received during the four months he overstayed in service.

Following the judgment, the convict promptly paid the N200,000 fine for counts One and Two and refunded the full sum of N1,233,258.95 into the ICPC Recovery Account as directed by the court.

NGO Seeks Govt’s Support to Harness Art as Tool for Social Change, Gender Justice

A non governmental organisation (NGO), Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) has called on the government at all levels to harness art as a tool for social change and gender justice.

Executive Director of BBYDI, Mrs. Nurah Jimoh- Sanni, made the call in Ilorin yesterday during the activities to mark the Ford Foundation’s 65th anniversary in West Africa, “the Youth Artivism Festival”, organized by the BBYDI with support from the Ford Foundation.

The event was marked with art exhibitions, live performances, panel discussions, and an award ceremony and also celebrated the role of young Nigerians in challenging societal norms and using art to advocate for justice.

Also, an exhibition of works by 22 finalists, selected from more than 100 submissions across Nigeria’s North Central region, showcased powerful visual narratives on gender justice, empowerment, and resilience.

Each piece reflected how art can provoke dialogue, empathy, and social reflection.

The festival’s award ceremony recognized outstanding contributions to “artivism” — the intersection of art and activism

She however said that, “No fewer than 300 young artists, activists, policymakers, and members of the public, highlighting how youth-driven creativity can help raise awareness about Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and promote equality”.

She emphasized the power of creativity in transforming society and advancing gender justice.

According to her, “Young people are not just witnesses to injustice; they are change agents”.

She stated, “Through art, they can challenge silence, demand accountability, and inspire action against gender-based violence”.

Meanwhile, a law graduate, Mr.
Usman Adam won the first-place prize of ₦200,000 for his artwork Sketching Another Shoulder, which depicted solidarity and shared responsibility in ending GBV.

Simon Thazhigilla from Nasarawa State earned the second-place prize of ₦150,000 for Bride of War and Anatomy of Science, exploring the emotional and cultural dimensions of violence.

Tobi Olomola, a 25-year-old visual artist, won ₦100,000 for Weight of Becoming, a piece addressing the burden of identity and social expectation in the context of gender inequality.

Certificates of recognition were later presented to all 22 finalists for their creativity and advocacy, while a closing performance by the D’Stars Drama Troupe left the audience reflecting on the urgent need for collective action against GBV.

Also speaking at the event,Joy Oluwatoyin Adeboye, a GBV survivor and advocate, shared her personal story of healing through art, urging more platforms for creative expression.

“Art gave me back my voice,” she said. “It helped me transform pain into purpose and use my story to inspire others.”

The Yobe State House of Assembly has received a letter from the executive arm of the government requesting permission for Governor Mai Mala Buni to present the 2026 budget proposal.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, read the letter during a plenary session held at the chambers of the House on Tuesday.

According to the letter, Governor Mai Mala Buni is scheduled to present the 2026 budget proposal on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 2 pm at the chamber of the State House of Assembly.

The Speaker called on members of the House to extend their full support and cooperation to the governor to ensure the successful presentation of the budget.

In another development, the House has passed bills seeking to amend the composition of the governing councils of the College of Administration, Science and Technology, Potiskum; the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Gujba; the College of Education, Gashua; and the Mai Idris Aloma Polytechnic, Geidam.

The bills, which were presented by the executive arm of government, were passed into law following the amendment of certain sections of the original draft legislation.

Court Orders Interim Forfeiture of Lagos Night Club Over Drug Allegations

The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted an order of interim forfeiture on a property located at No. 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, allegedly used for the storage and distribution of illicit drugs.

Justice Musa Kakaki granted the order following an ex parte application filed and argued by counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Buhari Abdulahi.

The property, known as Proxy Lagos Night Club, was said to have been used as an instrumentality of drug dealing and abuse by its owners, Mike Nwalie and Joachim Hillary.

According to the NDLEA, the premises were used to store 169 cylinders (384.662 kilograms) of Nitrous Oxide (commonly known as Laughing Gas) and 200 grams of Cannabis Sativa, both classified as controlled substances under Nigerian law.

In the motion dated October 27, 2025, the agency sought an interim forfeiture of the property to the Federal Government and an order suspending all business operations at the night club pending the conclusion of investigation.

Arguing the motion, Mr. Abdulahi told the court that the night club had been used for the storage, concealment, and sale of drugs, adding that the substances were kept in preparation for an illegal drug party scheduled to take place at the venue.

He submitted that, under existing drug control laws, any property used as an instrumentality of drug crime is subject to forfeiture, and that the order was necessary to place the property under NDLEA’s custody while investigations continue.

In an affidavit filed in support of the application, Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Nasiru Garba Bungudu, stated that the agency received credible intelligence in October 2025 about preparations for a large-scale drug party at Proxy Lagos Night Club.

According to the affidavit, NDLEA operatives, after days of surveillance, confirmed that the event was scheduled for October 26, 2025.

Acting on the intelligence, a team from the Lagos Strategic Command carried out a midnight raid on the club, recovering 169 cylinders of Nitrous Oxide and 200 grams of Cannabis Sativa from the premises.

The deponent added that over 200 persons, including the two respondents, were arrested at the scene.

The first respondent, Nwalie, was identified as the owner of the club, while Hillary was said to be a staff member and dealer in the illicit substances.

The NDLEA further alleged that laboratory analysis confirmed the seized items to be controlled drugs and that the second respondent had long been involved in the sale and distribution of such substances within the club, with the knowledge and consent of the owner.

Abdulahi urged the court to grant the motion, arguing that no party would be prejudiced by the interim order and that it was necessary to preserve the property pending the outcome of investigations.

After reviewing the application and the accompanying evidence, Justice Kakaki granted the interim forfeiture order as requested by the NDLEA.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to January 28, 2026, for further proceedings.

Bandits allegedly attacked Hon. Jafaru Mohammed Ali, the House of Representatives member for the Borgu/Agwara Federal Constituency of Niger State, as he travelled to meet his constituents.

The incident occurred today, November 4, 2025, at about 11 am.

According to reports, the lawmaker was on his way to meet with people of his constituency to discuss development projects he intended to introduce to the area when the attack took place.

A local source revealed that the ambush happened at the village of Kuble, along the Agwara-Babana road. The source added that the lawmaker and the security personnel accompanying him were seriously injured. Soldiers were reportedly dispatched to the scene to secure the area and rescue the wounded.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said a report was received indicating that the legislator and his party had been attacked at Audu-Fari village on the Babana road by suspected bandits while heading towards the Babana area.
