The media team of former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has slammed the administration of President Bola Tinubu, saying it is deepening crisis in Nigeria.

The media camp made the statement while reacting to media attack on Peter Obi by the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

DAILY POST recalls that the Lagos APC had accused Obi of exploiting a sensitive national issue for political gain instead of demonstrating true statesmanship.

“Let us be clear.. President Tinubu did not inherit insecurity; he inherited government power after his party spent eight years worsening insecurity under Muhammadu Buhari.

“APC cannot distance itself from its own disastrous record. The same propaganda that masked Buhari’s incompetence is now being repackaged under the banner of “Renewed Hope,” but Nigerians are not deceived.

“Today, under Tinubu, the naira has collapsed beyond N1,600 to the dollar and inflation is above 30%, with food prices doubling in months.

“Fuel subsidy removal was mishandled, plunging millions into poverty. Insecurity persists, with kidnappings and banditry spreading unchecked.

“Human rights violations and corruption have worsened, as confirmed by both local and foreign observers. If this is what the Lagos APC calls fixing Nigeria, then they have redefined failure as progress,” Obi’s media team said.

The Chinese government has pledged its firm support to the President Bola Tinubu administration amid threats of military action by United States President Donald Trump.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Mao Ning, spokesperson of China’s foreign ministry, said China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force.

Ning was answering a question on Trump’s threat of military action in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

“As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people on the development path suited to its national conditions.

“China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force,” Ning said.

DAILY POST reports that Bayo Onanuga, spokesman to Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu, shared China’s reaction on his X handle on Tuesday.

A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has accused former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of being complicit in the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

Moore made the allegation following Kwankwaso’s reaction to reports of a planned U.S. military intervention in Nigeria.

Taking to social media, Moore questioned the former governor’s record, writing: “Governor, do you care to comment on your own complicity in the death of Christians? You instituted Sharia law. You signed the law that makes so-called blasphemy punishable by death.”

Kwankwaso, who served as Kano State governor when Sharia law was implemented in November 2000, had earlier responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks on Nigeria’s security situation.

In his statement, Kwankwaso cautioned the U.S. against taking unilateral action, describing Nigeria as a sovereign nation struggling with security threats that cut across religious and ethnic lines.

“The insecurity we face does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs,” he said, urging the U.S. to support Nigeria through advanced technology and diplomacy rather than threats of military action.

Kwankwaso also called for Nigeria to appoint special envoys and ambassadors to engage Washington constructively, insisting on unity over division among Nigerians.

Meanwhile, Moore has pledged to pursue investigations into what he described as “genocide against Christians” in Nigeria.

Speaking to Fox News, he said President Trump would soon receive policy recommendations on possible U.S. responses to the alleged killings.

“We are going to get right to work and give President Trump a full menu of options to stop these killings,” he said.

Trump had earlier hinted at potential U.S. military action, citing escalating attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

He announced via his Truth Social account that Nigeria had been redesignated as a “Country of Particular Concern,” accusing “radical Islamists” of targeting Christians.

“Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” Trump wrote, warning that the U.S. could “go in guns blazing” if Nigeria failed to act.

The Nigerian government, however, dismissed the allegations of genocide, insisting that the nation remains committed to protecting the rights of all citizens regardless of faith.

President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s constitutional guarantee of religious freedom and stressed that his administration continues to engage religious leaders to foster national unity.

“The portrayal of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality,” Tinubu said, adding that his government remains dedicated to ensuring peace and coexistence across all regions and faiths.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Ndiokwelu Chibuzo, and General Secretary, Dr. Agbo Chukwuemeka, the association said the strike was avoidable had the Federal Government responded within the 30-day ultimatum earlier issued by NARD.

“The indefinite strike action was avoidable if the government had acted within the 30-day window provided by the NARD in an earlier ultimatum,” the statement read. “Sadly, the inaction of the government led to the present situation where the resident doctors have now downed tools in a total and comprehensive action.”

The NMA, Enugu branch, reaffirmed its solidarity with all resident doctors across the state and the country, describing their demands as justified and necessary for the improvement of Nigeria’s healthcare system.

“Your fight is absolutely justified and for this reason you can count on our total support and solidarity. It is a fight not just for your welfare, but for the health system in Nigeria,” the statement added.

The association urged resident doctors to remain resolute in their struggle until the government addresses their grievances and takes meaningful steps to strengthen the nation’s healthcare sector.

‘Ogun Committed to Sustainable Urban Devt’

Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to promoting and actualising its vision of a sustainable and safe environment and urban development through the advancement of safe and enduring building practices to ensure orderliness and a good living environment aimed at solid urban and rural development plans.

The state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olatunji Odunlami, disclosed this in his message to commemorate the 2025 World Habitat Day in Ogun State.

According to Odunlami, in a statement, first Monday of October, last month, has been set aside by the United Nations through the UN-Habitat to draw attention to the many challenges facing human settlements, especially the urban areas, and find solutions to them.

The commissioner stated that the yearly focus on human settlements was as a result of the projection that by 2050, the world population would reach 9.8 billion human beings, and nearly 70 percent of which would live in urban areas, which according to him, could lead to inadequate and sub-standard housing, lack of jobs, high crime rate, inadequate waste management, inadequate physical and social infrastructure, facilities and services among others.

He said: “This year’s theme: ‘Urban Crisis Response’, is a continuation of the dialogue, fact-finding and solution-proffering efforts of the UN-Habitat, which started in 1986.

“The general objective of this yearly celebration is to continue to remind us that we are individually and collectively responsible for the urban crisis, and we are therefore also individually and collectively responsible for finding the solutions. Every one of us has a part to play in these efforts, leaving no one behind.

He advised the Nigerian public not to build houses without getting a planning permit and building approval from the authorities; desist from building structures, including shanties, on road setbacks and drainage channels; and stop dumping refuse on the roads and drainages, encouraging all to plant trees and flowers in their environment.

Meanwhile, Bamidele Badejo, a professor of Geography and Regional Planning, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, who featured recently on the OGTV New Dawn programme in commemoration of the World Habitat Day, has called on the government to incorporate town planning professionals into Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the government to help in planning environmentally.

Also speaking on the programme, Mr. Fatai Adefala, Director of the state Fire Service, maintained that the safety of lives and properties, as well as the promotion of healthy community sanitation, is everybody’s business, and not for the government alone, encouraging everyone to do their bit to keep the environment safe.

The Council also blamed the absence of Ambassadors to strategic countries to manage the country’s diplomatic relations for fuelling the speculations, warning that running a nation for over two years without Ambassadors to nations is both unthinkable and highly detrimental to any government.

This is as the CSO insisted that the impression in the international community that terrorist and bandit activities are targeted only at Christians and their communities is both erroneous and misleading, considering that available records indicate that Muslims and Islamic communities are also affected.

The CSO asked the federal government to build an Independent Database of incidents and statistics of terrorist and bandit attacks, with specific categorisation of gender, age, religion of victims and affected families, through the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA.

Following its emergency meeting, the NCSCN, in a statement by its Communiqué Drafting Committee, headed by Mazi Oscar David Kalu, noted that the Council was compelled to convene the emergency meeting in the wake of the growing international tension over Christian genocide and the backlash on the Tinubu government over the delay in appointing Ambassadors to countries across the globe.

Among its recommendations, the CSO asked “That the Federal Government urgently convenes an Inter-Religious Dialogue on this burning issue of Christian Genocide, deploying the Organised Civil Society to set the records straight and douse mounting tension across the federation.

”That President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prioritises the appointment of ambassadors and international lobbyists to safeguard Nigeria’s interests and promote the country’s growth and development, and transmit a list of Ambassadors’ nominees to the Senate for confirmation not exceeding November 2025

“That a national framework and mechanism for strategic lobbying be developed by the Federal Government, engaging competent hands, seasoned diplomats and International Lobbyists.

Noting that foreign relations and policies of a country are crucial to its national development, the NCSCN warned the federal government not to take the current accusation of Christian Genocide for granted.

“The assertions from the International Community, especially America, must be handled professionally, with the highest level of diplomacy and caution, by confronting the matter with verifiable facts and figures,” it advised.

The Communique was signed by Mazi Oscar David Kalu, Chairman of the drafting committee, Gambo Suliema Haruna, representing Media Organisations, Mutaka Ibrahim Ghali, for Muslim Organisations and Peter Ihekiedime, representative of Christian Organisations.

Others are Hajiya Hadiza Garba, Jessica Paul and Lawal Tosin, all committee members.

Peter Obi Media Team, POMT, has blasted the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying that true patriotism is speaking truth to power instead of praising failure.

POMT said this in reaction to the statement the APC made attacking the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi over his comment on US President Donald Trump’s allegation of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

Recall that Trump recently designated Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ over allegation of Christian genocide in the country.

Obi had said that President Trump’s declaration should give every well-meaning Nigerian serious concern.

He said there is no doubt that Nigeria is experiencing an unprecedented level of insecurity with attendant carnage and the most shocking loss of lives and property.

The Lagos APC accused Obi Obi of exploiting a sensitive national issue for political gain instead of demonstrating true statesmanship.

Reacting to APC’s accusation, POMT said the attack on Obi once again proved that rather than address Nigeria’s deepening crises, the ruling party prefers to attack voices of conscience.

“Let it be stated clearly: Patriotism is not silence in the face of national decay. True love for one’s country is measured by the courage to speak truth to power, not by the volume of sycophancy offered to those in power.

“When a nation is bleeding from insecurity, unemployment, economic paralysis, corruption, and international embarrassment, it is only natural for responsible leaders to raise alarm.

“Peter Obi’s concern over Nigeria’s current global perception is not political opportunism; it is a wake-up call to a government that has normalized failure and propaganda as governance.

“If the APC government had shown half the efficiency in fixing Nigeria as it does in issuing press statements against perceived opponents, our nation would not be ranked among the world’s most insecure, most indebted, and most poverty-stricken countries,” POMT said.
