President Tinubu declares state of emergency on Nigeria’s security training institutions
President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency over the nation’s security training facilities, citing their outdated conditions as a threat to the effectiveness of Nigeria’s internal security agencies.
The announcement specifically addresses the training institutions of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies.
The development was confirmed by Enugu Governor Peter Mbah, who heads the National Economic Council (NEC) ad-hoc committee tasked with revamping security training institutions. Governor Mbah made the disclosure during an on-site inspection of the facilities in Lagos.
Addressing newsmen, Mbah said, “What we’ve observed today is consistent with what President Tinubu recognized when he visited the council chamber on October 23 and personally approved the inauguration of this ad hoc committee tasked with overhauling all training institutions of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.
“The President recognized the urgent need for bold action to restore the pride, professionalism, and confidence of our men and women in the security sector. That is precisely what we are here to validate. This committee has a mandate to report back within 30 days.
“As you know, we divided ourselves into two teams. One team, led by His Excellency Abdullahi Sule, Governor of Nassarawa State, is visiting all the training institutions in the North, while we are currently visiting the institutions in the South. We also have consultants with us, who will conduct a deep assessment of what needs to be rebuilt, re-equipped, and sustained in these training institutions.
“The President indeed sees this as an emergency. What we aim to achieve is the creation of an intervention fund for the rebuilding, renovation, and re-equipping of these institutions. As you know, the President has approved the recruitment of 30,000 police officers, which cannot be effectively implemented without adequate training facilities. This is why we are treating it with the seriousness it deserves.
“This particular facility, for example, was built around 1948. As we consider redevelopment, are we also looking at digital transformation for police training? Absolutely. We cannot rely on 20th-century systems to train a 21st-century police force. Our personnel need to acquire evolving digital skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, mechatronics, and other technologies essential for modern policing.
“Our approach is a comprehensive revamp. As the President has emphasized, you cannot expect men and women responsible for protecting our communities and upholding law and order to be trained in inhumane conditions. That is simply unacceptable, and this initiative is aimed at addressing that.
“Lastly, for emphasis, I want to clarify that this action is not reactionary. Some viewers may think this is a response to the recent comments by former President Trump, but that is not the case. This directive was issued on October 20, before any external events. This is a forward-thinking, proactive initiative by a President who recognizes that our training institutions have suffered decades of neglect.
“Our goal is to rebuild these institutions, equip them with modern facilities, and provide world-class environments for our police officers and civil defence personnel. What you are witnessing is a nationwide effort to ensure that all training institutions are brought up to modern standards and aligned with 21st-century realities.
Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, alongside the committee’s secretary, former Inspector General of Police Alkali Usman Baba, and Assistant Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, who oversees the Special Protection Unit (SPU), stated that the committee has 30 days to submit a comprehensive report to the NEC, which will guide the next phase of reforms.

“We unequivocally affirm that every area of infrastructure is receiving due attention simultaneously, and this holistic approach is a clear testimony of your dedication and effective leadership.”

Shettima Leaves For Brazil To Attend 30th UN Climate Change Summit
* To hold bilateral talks on establishing and managing Nigeria’s participation in carbon markets

Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday departed the nation’s capital, Abuja, for Brazil to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 30th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference tagged COP 30 holding in the South American country.
The summit convened by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in collaboration with other partners, will be held from November 6 to 7 in the city of Belém, capital of the state of Pará, in the Brazilian Amazon.
According to a release issued by the Media Assistant to the Vice-President, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima is billed to join other world leaders, development partners and business executives at the event themed, ‘Climate Action and Implementation,’ with a strong focus on adaptation, forests, biodiversity and climate justice.
On the first day of engagements in Belem, the vice-president will attend the general plenary of leaders where he is expected to present Nigeria’s climate action address.
He will also take part in the launch of the Tropical Forest Forever Fund, and participate in a roundtable chaired by President Lula on Climate and Nature before attending an Amazonian Cocktail for Heads of Delegation, hosted by the President of Brazil.
On the second day of the summit, Shettima will participate in two roundtables chaired by President Lula on energy transition, as well as the review of the Paris Agreement, with a focus on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Financing.
On the sidelines, he will hold bilateral meetings focused on establishing and managing Nigeria’s participation in the carbon markets, enabling the nation to unlock between $2.5 billion and $3 billion annually in carbon finance over the next decade to help meet climate goals.
At the conclusion of his COP 30 engagements, the Nigerian vice-president will proceed to the city of Brasilia for a reciprocal visit to his Brazilian counterpart, Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin, who had embarked on a historic three-day visit to Nigeria earlier in June.
During Vice-President Alckmin’s visit to Nigeria, a number of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) across critical sectors, including defence cooperation, agricultural technology transfer, energy collaboration, and cultural exchange programmes, were signed by officials of both countries.
In the city of Brasilia, Shettima, accompanied by top Nigerian government officials, will engage with his Brazilian counterpart to further deepen Nigeria’s South-South diplomatic ties.
The vice-president is expected back in Nigeria at the end of his engagements in Brazil.

A former All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has faulted the handling of Nigeria’s foreign policy under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Garba said managers of Tinubu’s foreign policy have exposed Nigeria to even more problems.
He made the remark in reaction to China warning the United States against interfering in Nigeria’s affairs.
China had issued the warning following threats by US President, Donald Trump to order military action over reported Christian genocide in Nigeria.
Garba in a post on X wrote: “China backed Nigeria and warned U.S against internal interference. Some are celebrating this based on myopic mindset.
“So did China backed Afghanistan, China Backed Iraq, China backed Gaddafi, China backed Assad. does that stop U.S from projecting its national interest in those countries?
“Most recently, China backed Gaza, does that stop anything? In fact, the most important Chinese BRI ally in the World is Islamic Republic of Iran, China vehemently backed Iran, but that doesn’t stop the U.S from bombing the Iranian Nuclear facility, right within Iran.
“The truth it, when it comes to international issues, no country can back you against any other superpower beyond strongly worded press conferences, except of course when there are strategic interests threatening the national security of the supporting power.
“In fact, in Nigeria, most Chinese companies have been packed up due to lack of payment from the jobs they have executed for the government. The chinese government is fully aware of the situation.
“Therefore, believe such press statements as anything beyond paper rhetoric at your own peril.
“Nigeria’s foreign policy management of the Tinubu administration is the most laziest it has ever been in the country, exposing us to even more problems.
“Nigeria needs to work its way to clean its name. This is very important.
“As it stands, there is no country, not even our neigbors like Niger, Cameroun, Benin that can come for us in the event of any situation. In fact, Chad even closed their borders against us.
“We have to work our way out of the mess we created ourselves. Propaganda only ends on the screens of social media users.”

You have been exposed, stop deceiving Nigerians – MASSOB hits Primate Ayodele
The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has accused the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, of allegedly deceiving Nigerians under the guise of divine revelation.
In a statement issued by its National Director of Information, Comrade Edeson Samuel, the group said Primate Ayodele’s alleged “anti-Igbo and tribalized posture” has been exposed.
MASSOB claimed the cleric’s criticisms of Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party and his support for President Bola Tinubu were part of a sponsored campaign to discredit the former Anambra governor.
The statement accused Ayodele of ignoring the “hardship and insecurity” in the country while defending the Tinubu administration. It said:
“In your support bid for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, you have turned blind eyes to the huge evils his administration has caused Nigerians, including your kinsmen. You have also ignored the ongoing genocide against Christians in Nigeria.”
MASSOB expressed support for former US President Donald Trump’s recent stance against the Nigerian government, saying his intervention aims to expose “foreign and local-backed Fulani jihadists” responsible for attacks on Christians.
The group rejected Ayodele’s claim that Trump’s position was part of a plot to destabilize the Tinubu administration, insisting that the president was responsible for his government’s instability.
“Tinubu is the one destabilizing his administration by appointing his kinsmen to occupy almost all strategic positions and running the government like a family business,” MASSOB stated.
The pro-Biafra group further alleged that Tinubu’s presidency lacks legitimacy, claiming he “connived with INEC and the judiciary to steal the presidential mandate.”
MASSOB also dismissed Ayodele’s call for Tinubu to seek God’s face, saying such advice was “deceitful,” as, according to the group, “God did not install him as Nigeria’s president.”
It said Tinubu should instead seek forgiveness from former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu and former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
