Niger Infrastructure Devt: Work Resumes At Project Sites

Following the reduction in the intensity and volume of rainfall and resumption of experts from their annual vacations work has resumed at the sites of most of the ongoing development projects across the state .
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure Alhaji Hassan Baba Etsu told newsmen in Minna that the Nigerian Staff on the employment of the construction firms are also being recalled to continue their jobs.
Hassan Etsu assured that all the Infrastructural projects being embarked upon by the Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago administration since 2023 are going on as planned and would be completed on schedule.
He however said that some of the projects especially the 5km roads being constructed in the 25 local government areas of the state have been completed and commissioned while others including those in the state capital have reached more than 40% completion stage.
“Most of the road projects are projected to be executed In dry months of the year, most Infrastructural projects especially road construction cannot be executed successfully during the rains which was why there was a little lull
“Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago remains fully committed to completing all ongoing infrastructure projects, modalities for sustainable funding of these projects are in place and are being carefully and strategically worked out to avoid delays” he asserted.
Etsu asserted that the resumption of work by the contractors is an indication that “Work has not stopped on any of the project”
The Permanent Secretary solicited for the continued support of the people for the administration adding that the development carried out in the state within just two years is unprecedented in the history of the state.

More relief have come the way of victims of the Mokwa flood in Niger state following the sponsorship of the education of 88 children mostly orphans whose parents were affected by the disaster.
A group of Indigenes from the affected local government is also embarking on the training of 41 widows and their children in various trades.
More than 260 people were killed on May 28, this year with over 2000 displaced as a result of heavy rains which resulted in the flooding of communities in the town.
The Mokwa Flood Relief Support Group a non- governmental organisation has already released cheques to some training institutes in the state for the training of the widows and their children.
Presenting cheques to proprietors of the training institutes in Mokwa on Thursday chairman of the group and former Assistant Comptroller of Prisons, Alhaji Ahmed Nasir said the benefitiaries would be trained in tailoring, soap making and catering .
In addition Alhaji Ahmed Nasir said the children of the deceased would be sent to educational institutions of their choice to either further or start their education.
“If you educate a child, you are educating humanity, if you give food to a widow, you are giving food to the family”he said.
Ahmed used the event to plead with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to redeem the pledge of N2 billion naira made for the re- construction and of buildings and resettlement of displaced people
In addition he asked for the replacement of the 15MVA transformer destroyed by the flood as promised by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
He praised Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago for putting smiles on the faces of the flood victims saying “Governor Bago has made us proud ,Bago is a talk and do gentle man he has provided cash to majority of victims to seek for alternative shelter pending the completion of resettlements,we are overwhelmed with the gesture”.
In his remarks,the Ndalele( traditional ruler) of Mokwa, Alhaji Muhammadu Shaba Aliyu, expressed delight at the unwavering support from the Indigines of Mokwa, saying that the support would go along way to uplift the livelihoods of the victims who have been devastated as a result of the flood.
The Support Group is made up of prominent people of Mokwa local government.

The people of Oba community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State have appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to grant them key developmental projects that will accelerate the transformation of the fast-growing town.
DAILY POST reports that they were particular about the strategic Oba–Umuoji road which the governor has already approved at the cost of over N3 billion.
The appeal was led by the President General of Oba Patriotic Union (OPU), Engr. Anthony Uzo Ejiofor (Ezeugonna), during a grand rally in Oba.
Top among the demands was the construction of the Oba–Umuoji–Akwukwu road, a vital link road connecting three communities, which the PG described as the town’s topmost priority for boosting trade, mobility, and economic growth in the Idemili axis.
Ejiofor also urged the governor to consider Oba indigenes and residents for government appointments, and to formally designate Rojenny Tourist and Sports Village as Anambra’s official State Sports Centre, given its historic role in nurturing Nigeria’s victorious Golden Eaglets of 1993 and its approval by CAF for continental matches.
In a related development, the Deputy Mayor of Idemili South, Ifeanyi Anakuba, commended Ejiofor for his collaborative style of leadership and his inspiring performance at the rally which, according to him, directly influenced Governor Soludo’s approval of the Oba–Umuoji road project.
Anakuba described the development as “a landmark breakthrough that will not only open up greater opportunities for Oba and Umuoji but also strengthen economic and social ties across Idemili South.”
He praised the synergy between the President General, the Mayor of Idemili South, Dr. Mrs Amaka Obi (Iyom Ife-Abata), and the state government, noting that their unity has proven that when communities and government align in purpose, development becomes achievable and sustainable.
Anakuba further encouraged other President Generals across Idemili to emulate Ejiofor’s example by forging meaningful partnerships with the government to attract life-changing projects.
With the governor’s nod for the N3 billion road project, the community said they remain hopeful that other pressing needs, including government appointments, more infrastructure, and the recognition of Rojenny Sports Village as the State Sports Capital, would soon receive Soludo’s seal of approval.
“Oba is ready to partner with the government, contribute our quota, and stand as a model of grassroots progress in Anambra State,” Ejiofor declared, while assuring the governor of the community’s support ahead of the governorship election in November.

He made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja at the public presentation of ‘Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum’, authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (rtd).
The Sultan, Chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, said the concept of jihad has been widely misrepresented.
“Jihad is not to kill a non-Muslim. Jihad means to strive, to be a good Muslim, a good Christian, a good farmer, or a good engineer. The notion that it means killing non-Muslims has been wrongly propagated for decades,” he said.
He stressed that Islam, guided by the Qur’an, Hadith, and scholarly consensus, rejects all forms of extremism. “You cannot be an extremist and claim to be a good Muslim,” he added.
The Sultan also dismissed claims that Islam is about seizing political power, saying its true essence lies in promoting good governance, justice, and accountability. He urged Nigerians to avoid divisive comments on religion and insecurity, emphasizing the importance of unity.
“We must come together as one family with different backgrounds to forge ahead and make this country better,” he said.
He commended Gen. Irabor for documenting his experiences in the fight against insecurity, describing the book as a valuable contribution to Nigeria’s security discourse.

Looking back to the 2014 abduction of 276 schoolgirls from Chibok in Borno State, Jonathan said the incident left an indelible mark and will continue to haunt him.
The former President spoke during the public presentation of ‘SCARS: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum’, a memoir by former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, on Friday.
He commended the former CDS, stressing that he was “a soldier who stood for truth and never played politics with security”.
“The title of this book is quite interesting. One of the major scars on my government is the Chibok Girls.
“As Bishop Kukah said, no plastic or cosmetic surgeon can remove it. It is a scar I will die with,” Jonathan added.
The abduction of the schoolgirls sparked a global outrage, leading to the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.
