Alleged Defamation: Court Adjourns Sowore’s Case Until Nov 20
The trial of Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, was on Thursday, adjourned by the Federal High Court, Abuja until November 20 for hearing in all pending applications.
At the resumed hearing, the prosecuting counsel, Mr E.A. Inegbenoise, informed the court that the matter was listed for arraignment.
He, however, said that the defendants had filed a motion of preliminary objection to the charges, to which he had already responded.
Inegbenoise told the court that he was only able to serve his reply to the defendants in court on the day of the hearing, and that they would require time to respond.
Mr Tope Temokun, who appeared for Sowore and Sahara Reporters Ltd, affirmed that he had received their reply to the preliminary objection and that they would need time to reply.
He also told the court that both parties had agreed to return on November 20 to argue all pending applications.
Mr Marshal Abubakar, who represented Sahara Reporters Incorporated, announced his appearance “in protest,” but declined to provide further details, when the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) approached him after the court proceedings.
Mr Hamza Dantani also appeared in the matter on behalf of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), under the Citizens Liberties Committee.
Justice Emeka Nwite, presiding over the case, said that since the counsel had agreed, the matter was adjourned until November 20 for the hearing of all pending applications.
The charge against Sowore and Sahara Reporters, filed earlier in August, relates to a series of reports published on Sahara Reporters about an alleged police promotion scandal and Sowore’s participation in protests by retired police officers demanding pension reforms. (NAN)

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has undertaken a working visit to Diffa Region of Niger Republic on Wednesday.
The visit, which included a high-level security and economic delegation, focused on strengthening the existing collaboration between Nigerian and Nigerien forces in the ongoing fight against insurgency, particularly around the shores of Lake Chad.
Zulum’s Media Aide, Dauda Iliya, in a statement noted that Diffa is a community 17 km from Damasak town in northern Borno where thousands of Nigerians displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency are currently taking refuge.
“Zulum was received by the Governor of Diffa, Brigadier General Mahamaduo Ibrahim Bagadoma, and other senior officials. The leaders held closed-door meetings centered on joint patrols, intelligence sharing, and sustaining the recent gains that have pushed insurgents out of many of their former strongholds.
“Zulum outlined plans to leverage the improved security situation to facilitate the return of thousands of displaced farmers to the vast and fertile agricultural lands around Dutchi town within the Lake Chad basin”, he said.
According to him part of the Governor’s entourage are Bukar Talba, a member of the House of Representatives, Speaker, Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, and other senior government officials

Traditional rulers from the Taraba North Senatorial District, alongside the Taraba Northern Development Initiative, TNDI, have frowned at the alleged poor performance of federal lawmakers representing the zone, accusing them of neglecting their duties and abandoning their constituents.
The condemnation came during a meeting held in Lau local government council, themed “Strategic Consultation of Taraba Northern Leaders: Reawakening the Giant.”
The event brought together prominent leaders and stakeholders who expressed frustration over what they described as a consistent failure in legislative representation.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Chief of Lau, Abubakar Danbaworo, directly challenged lawmakers from Ardo-Kola, Karim-Lamido, and Lau to showcase any significant achievements since assuming office.
“Can anyone point to the achievements of any National Assembly member from Taraba North? They have failed to touch the lives of their people. If they come during elections with money, collect it, but vote for the best candidates,” Danbaworo
Echoing the monarchs’ stance, Danjuma Adams, convener of the TNDI, lamented the zone’s lack of development despite producing multiple senators and members of the House of Representatives since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.
He stressed that the region remains unable to boast of any meaningful federal project since the members came onboard.
Adams urged constituents to demand accountability and better representation, emphasizing that the time has come for Taraba North to break free from what he described as “decades of legislative underperformance.”
Both the monarchs and the TNDI collectively called for renewed political consciousness among voters in the region, as leaders pledged to continue pushing for better governance and development.

Tinted Glass: Police threaten to impound vehicles, prosecute drivers without permit in Yobe
The Yobe State Police Command said that it is mandatory to obtain a valid Tinted Glass Permit issued through the Police Specialized Services Automation Project, POSSAP, and that enforcement will commence on Monday, October 6, 2025.
The Command through its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday ahead of the enforcement date.
According to the Command the initiative is part of a renewed security strategy aimed at enhancing identification, data collection, and curbing the activities of criminal elements who conceal their identities using tinted glasses.
“Records indicate a 15% increase in crimes involving the use of tinted vehicles in the first and second quarters of 2025 within the state, with a similar trend observed nationwide”, it said.
It, however, warned motorists who are using covered or concealed number plates to desist from the practice.
“All vehicles must display legally registered number plates conspicuously on both the front and rear of the vehicle.
“Driving a vehicle without a visible number plate constitutes a gross violation of traffic regulations and poses a significant threat to public safety and security”, the Police Command said.
It warned that any vehicle found without a proper number plate or valid documentation will be impounded, while the drivers will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
The State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, in the statement urged all motorists to comply fully with the regulations to enhance security consciousness, promote public safety, and reduce incidents of vehicle burglary and related criminal activities in the state.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, revealed how “political contractors” gave him migraine headache.
Wike disclosed that these political contractors are determined to sabotage his efforts of providing infrastructural development in the capital city.
The Minister spoke during the official flag-off of the installation of Integrated (Hybrid) Solar Lighting in the Districts of Abuja city and expressways under the Light up Abuja program: Lots I and II.
Wike said money was being disbursed to these contractors without any result to show, hence he took a bold decision to stop it.
He said: “Today’s event is a very difficult one, difficult in the sense that this is one project, though it’s very important, but has given us a lot of headache. Headache not in the conceptualization, but headache how it will work.
“Knowing in this room, people are always sabotaging efforts of government. Since I’ve been here, it’s a concern for me and my team. But we felt that we must take up the challenge.
“If I tell you how much we spend every month, every week, fines, maintenance of this, maintenance of this, and it wasn’t it. These contractors are politicians, they are political contractors.
“You don’t even know whom they are. You don’t even know where their equipment are but you keep on paying and paying and paying and paying. And we are not getting any results.
“So I said that comes to an time. And part of leadership is to take a decision. It doesn’t matter whether that decision will favor everybody or not. But let it be a decision that will lead to improvement, be fair.”

The Lagos State Government has announced a two-day traffic diversion to manage movement during the Electric Powerboat Racing Championship E1 Series, Africa’s maiden electric powerboat race, scheduled to take place on the Victoria Island Lagoon from Friday, October 3, to Sunday, October 5, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Transportation, the government disclosed that there will be a total road closure at First Lekki Junction inward Ozumba Mbadiwe Street, Victoria Island, for the duration of the event.
The ministry outlined alternative routes for motorists:
Ajah to Lekki commuters are advised to make a U-turn at Lekki First Junction by the pedestrian bridge and connect through Yesufu Abiodun, Maroko Police Station, City of David, Ligali Ayorinde, and Ajose Adeogun to access Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and McEwen/Onikan.
”Ajah inward CMS traffic can divert via Abraham Adesanya to Ogombo Road, Okun Ajah Road, and Coastal Road to link Ahmadu Bello Way and Independence Bridge before continuing their journeys.
”Lekki to Ikoyi/Mainland motorists are encouraged to use Admiralty Way through Lekki Link Bridge to Alexander Road, Bourdillon Way, Gerrard Road, and Osborne Road.
”Those heading towards CMS can connect via Yesufu Abiodun, Oniru Road, Aboyade Cole Road, and Ligali Ayorinde to reach Eko Hotel Roundabout.
”CMS/Independence Bridge and Ozumba Mbadiwe traffic inward Lekki-Epe Expressway will have a free flow passage towards Ajah and surrounding areas.
The government also assured that the Coastal Road will remain accessible throughout the diversion period.
Appealing for cooperation, the Ministry urged motorists to exercise patience, noting that the diversion is part of the state’s broader traffic management strategy to ensure seamless movement during the internationally recognised E1 Boat Race.”
