After 16 days in detention, the Delta State Police Command has filed charges against the publisher of Secret Reporters, Fejiro Oliver, in the Asaba Judicial Division of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.

Fejiro was arrested by the police at his Abuja office on September 18, 2025, and flown to Asaba after a petition was lodged against him for allegedly cyberstalking Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Senator Ede Dafinone and others through a series of Facebook posts.

The charge sheet, dated the 3rd day of October, 2025, was signed by R.O. Eze Esq., Legal Officer, Directorate of Legal Services, Delta State Police Command, Asaba.

In the charge, Fejiro was accused of stating that “the Governor travelled to Brazil without the people knowing and making it ‘Hush-Hush’, ‘the governor gave contracts to his boys worth billions of naira for rigging election’, ‘the Governor sent government officials to China, spending millions of Dollars only to go and inspect CNG buses instead of attracting investor’.

He was further said to have written that “the Governor is a sleeping Governor who rigged election,” a statement the police said was “aimed at destroying his reputation and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 24 (2) (c) (ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act, 2015, as amended”.

In a separate charge, Fejiro was accused of making similar publications against Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District.

The police alleged that Fejiro, “between the months of May, and July, 2025, in Asaba within Asaba Judicial Division did make publications on your Facebook account with name – Fejiro Oliver, cyberstalking Senator Ede Dafinone, currently representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate,” describing him as “grossly incompetent senator,” “sleeping senator,” “betraying ingrate,” “Dodo Senator,” “POS Senator,” “Scammer in NASS,” and that “Senator Ede Dafinone must be recalled from the Senate”.

The publication, according to the charge, was “aimed at destroying his reputation”, an offence punishable under Section 24 (2) (c) (ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act, 2015, as amended.

The move by the police command follows a court order that the police, in 48 hours, should show why Fejiro should not be released unconditionally after spending 16 days in detention.

The order was issued on Thursday, October 2, 2025 by Justice F. A. Olubanjo, following an ex parte application filed by Fejiro’s counsel and human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong.

Fejiro has remained in detention at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Asaba.

Reacting to the development, Fejiro’s lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, described the charges as frivolous, adding that it is a desperate attempt to keep his client in custody.

The Benue State Government has started the demolition of buildings on waterways at the Mechanic Village in Kanshio Welfare Quarters of Makurdi and other parts of the state to avert flooding during the rainy season.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Disaster Management, Aondowase Kunde.

“We are working on contingency and resettlement plans in the next two weeks. I will be traveling to Burkina Faso next week to learn their model for resettlement of flood victims and other areas of security, humanitarian and development so that we can work on our own model.

“Once we work on our model, we will come up with a road map on flooding. Those who built on waterways, their houses will be demolished.

“We have already started demolition at the Mechanic village in Kanshio, Welfare Quarterss and other parts of the state, to ensure that when rain falls, there will be easy passage for it.

“On the dredging of River Benue, we have written to the Federal Government that is working on dredging of the river.

“The river has been overflowed by sand and when the dredging is done, the depth of the river can hold water such that even if Lagdo Dam is opened, it can carry it and this issue of flooding will be put to rest,” the commissioner said.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday carried out some road inspections in the capital city.

Wike visited the Wuye District of the FCT where he was briefed about the project by the contractor handling it.

Addressing the minister, the Managing Director of Arab Contractors, Engr Mohamed Eldaros, said: “About 37 of the road network has been done with all the associated infrastructures. Apart from this interchange bridge, there are two locations of River bridges within Wuye.

“We have also technical substations providing light, the work is done and people are living there. There is telecom supply, water supply and all services are there.

“The road marking is what they are doing now which is the last aspect of the project.

“We have been able to achieve 60 percent and within 20 months, not up to two years we will be able to achieve the remaining 40 percent with the support of funds. We have been able to handover this critical point.”

In a similar vein, the minister also inspected the ongoing construction of the road linking airport road with Kuje Area Council.

The road which is a two-lane carriage way with subs, making it five lanes, is expected to be completed by June 2026.

“We can promise you that by June next year with the support we are receiving it will be completed, we are approaching the dry season now,” Eldaros said.

In his presentation at the Stakeholders’ Interactive engagement with the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance, at the State House, Abuja, themed ‘Technology, Migration & Trade Representation’, Inuwa outlined Nigeria’s strategic roadmap for emerging technologies.

He noted that President Bola Tinubu emphasises economic diversification and inclusivity, with priority on accelerating industrialization, digitalization, creative industries, manufacturing, and innovation.

The NITDA boss explained that at the heart of this ambition is Nigeria’s National AI Strategy, which lays out a clear pathway for the country’s technological future, noting it involves expanding connectivity, developing sovereign cloud platforms, and building clean and representative national datasets.

Inuwa stressed the importance of nurturing the ecosystem by empowering startups and innovators, anchored by the Nigerian Startup Act which provides a legal and institutional framework for growth.

“Innovation does not happen in isolation. You need an ecosystem that connects government, innovators, investors, and global partners,’’ he added.

On sectoral transformation, Inuwa explained that AI is being integrated into key industries such as healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, and education to radically boost productivity, adding that AI will not replace humans; rather, it will enhance human endeavor.

“With AI, we can achieve ten times the productivity we are seeing today. Imagine what it means when our doctors can diagnose faster, our farmers can predict yields better, and our manufacturers can cut inefficiencies. That is the kind of leap Nigeria is preparing for.

The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, have introduced a Joint Task Force on Digital Governance and Anti-Corruption.

NITDA said the task force is to tackle corruption risks associated with government IT projects, strengthen the enforcement mandate and ensure that technology becomes a tool for service delivery.

The announcement was made at the ICPC Headquarters in Abuja during a high-level courtesy call by the Director General of NITDA to the ICPC chairman, according to a statement by the Director, Corporate Communications at NITDA, Mrs Hadiza Umar.

The Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Abdullahi, according to the statement, stressed the importance of IT Project Clearance as a national safeguard designed to track government spending in IT and prevent development of projects in silos where significant resources can be shared by FPIs.

‘‘IT clearance regulation is designed to ensure that IT projects are properly conceptualized and executed in line with global best practices, ensuring value-for-money investments, reducing duplication, and creating a unified digital government.

‘‘This visit underscores the determination of both agencies to align their mandates in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his directive to build a $1 trillion economy, powered by digital transformation, ease of doing business, and elimination of corruption as a barrier to growth,’’ Abdullahi said.

Meanwhile the ICPC chairman, Dr Musa Aliyu, welcomed the collaboration, noting that corruption in IT procurement undermines both public trust and economic progress.

He emphasized ICPC’s readiness to use its statutory powers to support NITDA’s mandate and hold both contractors and public officials accountable.

Police confirm release of 17 kidnap victims in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the release of 17 kidnapped victims, including 14 women and three men, who had been held captive for several months.

The victims were among those abducted on June 19 at Birdigau village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to police sources, the victims regained their freedom on Friday around 8:30 a.m. following coordinated efforts by security operatives in the area.

Police officers were immediately deployed to the location where the victims were found and evacuated them to the Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau for medical examination under tight security.

The Chairman of Gusau Local Government Area, Abubakar Imam, supervised their evacuation and medical assessment.

Authorities said the victims would be reunited with their families in Katsina State after completing medical checks.
