Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has hailed the visit of President Bola Tinubu to the state, describing it as a strong symbol of national unity and solidarity among Nigerians.
Governor Mutfwang said this in a statement on Sunday, on behalf of the government and the people of the state.

The governor maintained that Tinubu’s presence at the final internment service of Mama Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe, mother of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, reflected his deep respect, empathy, and commitment to the unity of the country.

“Your esteemed presence in our dear state was an immense honour and a clear demonstration of your respect, empathy, and commitment to national unity.

“The people of Plateau State are deeply touched by this gesture, and we do not take it for granted,” the governor stated.

Governor Mutfwang also extended appreciation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, members of the National Assembly, fellow governors, and members of the Federal Executive Council who accompanied the President to the event.

He said Plateau State looks forward to welcoming the President again soon to witness firsthand the transformation and renewed hope taking shape across the state.

The Lagos State Safety Commission, LSC, has sealed a number of chemical factories and shops in the Ojota area for breaching safety and environmental regulations.

The Commission announced the development in a statement to journalists, explaining that the weekend enforcement operation, led by its Director-General, Mr Lanre Mojola, was in line with the Lagos State Safety Commission Law of 2011.

Mojola stated that the affected facilities were shutdown after operators repeatedly ignored agreed safety measures, despite receiving several warnings and the expiration of a grace period.

He explained that prior inspections were carried out at the factories, followed by meetings with the chemical dealers’ executives. During the engagements, the operators signed a letter of undertaking on May 9, 2025, committing to implement specific safety protocols.

These commitments included conducting a comprehensive safety audit of the market, organising hazard identification and risk assessment workshops, equipping shops with functional fire extinguishers, and maintaining a detailed and updated inventory of chemicals, including their expiry dates.

Other agreed measures were the mandatory use of personal protective equipment, installation of clear safety signage and chemical labels, provision of Safety Data Sheets, and the development of disaster management and business continuity plans.

“Despite the expiration of the ultimatum, the chemical dealers failed to honour the agreements reached with the Commission. This left us with no option but to seal the facilities to safeguard lives and property,” Mojola said.

He added that the sealed premises would remain closed until the operators fully complied with the required safety standards.

Mojola also cautioned manufacturers and business owners across Lagos to adopt proactive safety practices to avoid similar enforcement actions.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has warned Nigeria’s 36 state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike to quickly disclose the spending details of the estimated N14trn fuel subsidy savings they collected from FAAC allocations or face legal action.

Deputy Director of SERAP, Kolawole Oluwadare, issued this warning in the Freedom of Information requests dated 4 October 2025.

SERAP charged them to provide details of the plans on how subsequent fuel subsidy savings they expect to collect from FAAC allocations, including details of any planned projects on which the money would be spent.

The rights group also urged them to publicly invite the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to track and monitor the spending of the fuel subsidy savings collected by you, to ensure that the money is not diverted into private pockets.

The governors and the FCT minister are said to have collected trillions of naira from FAAC allocations as fuel subsidy savings since mid-2023.

But the increased allocations have not translated into improved access to basic public services, such as quality healthcare and education for poor and vulnerable Nigerians.

“There is a legitimate public interest for governors and the FCT minister to urgently explain how they have spent the money they have so far collected from the subsidy savings.

“The savings from the removal of fuel subsidy ought to be spent solely for the benefit of the poor and vulnerable Nigerians who are bearing the brunt of the removal. Transparency in the spending of the money would help to avoid a morally repugnant result of double jeopardy on these Nigerians.

“There is a significant risk of mismanagement or diversion of funds linked to the increased FAAC allocations collected by the states and FCT.

“The spending details of the money collected by several states and the FCT from fuel subsidy savings have been mostly shrouded in secrecy.

“Millions of poor and vulnerable Nigerians have not benefited from the trillions of naira collected by the governors and FCT minister from as a result of the subsidy savings. Nigerians continue to face a worsening poverty crisis,” SERAP said.

According to the debunked report, the withdrawn operatives were also attached to former state officials who refused to defect to the APC.

The report was said to have attributed the withdrawal to political disagreement between Eno and his predecessor, following the governor’s defection to the APC.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday, the Chief Secretary to the Governor, Ekerete Udoh, described the reports as fabrication born of “the imagination of its purveyors.”

Udoh said the commissioner said this while fielding correspondents’ questions on Saturday night.

“I can tell you on good authority that the Governor did not issue any directive to withdraw security operatives from the immediate past Governor.

“To the best of our knowledge, there has been no complaint or report from any former Governor or their media aides about the withdrawal of security personnel. The rumour exists only in the imagination of those peddling it,” Umanah added.

Northern Christian leaders have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the resettlement of displaced persons in Benue, Plateau, and Borno States, who are in camps within and outside the country years after violent attacks forced them out of their ancestral homes.

The appeal was made in Jos, Plateau State, during a historic audience with the President, in what the clerics described as a renewed opportunity to draw attention to the plight of displaced communities in Northern Nigeria.

The Christian leaders were in Jos to attend the funeral of Mama Lydia Yilwata, mother of Prof. Nentawe Yilwata, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on behalf of the Christian leaders, Rev. Dr Amos M. Mohzo, President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) and Chairman of the Heads of Denominational Leaders on the Plateau, CAN lamented that more than 200,000 people from Gwoza in Borno State are still languishing in refugee camps in Cameroon and Chad.

According to him, “We humbly appeal to you, Mr President, to help bring them back home. In the same vein, we are calling for a lifeline for displaced communities in Plateau and Benue States. Rebuilding their livelihoods and housing will reposition them for meaningful life and productivity.”

He lauded the President’s efforts in strengthening national security and supporting the call for state police and stressed the need for resettling displaced families as it remains essential for peace and stability in the North.

Mohzo also expressed gratitude for the President’s commitment to inclusivity in governance, citing key appointments of Northern Christians such as Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, and Prof. Nentawe Yilwata as National Chairman of the APC.

He further appealed to President Tinubu to broaden the inclusion of Christians in his cabinet and in other key positions of authority in the country.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Northern Nigeria, Rev Joseph John Hayab, reinforced the clerics’ appeal, stressing the urgent need for the President to prioritise resettlement and reconstruction as a means of restoring the dignity of displaced families.

Hayab, who led the Northern CAN delegation, urged President Tinubu to establish a Special Presidential Reconstruction Initiative targeted at rebuilding homes, restoring livelihoods, and providing social infrastructure for displaced persons who, he said, have suffered untold hardship for too long.

He said, “Our people cannot continue to live in camps when their ancestral homes have been taken over. We are appealing to Mr President to act with urgency so that these Nigerians can return home and live meaningful lives again.”

Hayab stressed the commitment of Northern Christian leaders to peace and national unity, assuring the President of their support for people-oriented policies that will benefit not only the North but the country as a whole.

According to him, CAN would continue to serve as a moral voice of conscience, holding government accountable, speaking truth to power with understanding, and advocating for policies that uphold justice and humanity.

The clerics also used the occasion to commiserate with Prof. Yilwata, the Ngas nation, and the entire people of Plateau State, praying that God grants them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, PHCDA, is targetting the vaccination of 3,186,521 children against measles and rubella across the state.

‎This was stated by the state Immunization Officer, Shehu Ibrahim during a media dialogue and sensitisation for the upcoming integrated vaccination campaign in the state scheduled to commence on 06 October, to 15th, 2025.

He said the integrated exercise targeted 48-49% population covering children between 9 months -14.

“The exercise targeted children from 9 months to 14 years for measles/rubella,NOPV 0 to 59 months, HPV 9 year to 14 and RI from 0 month to 23 months ”

‎According to Shehu the program will be held between 6th-15th October across the 288 wards in the 27 local government areas of the state, added

The SIO said the exercise will be conducted at all the primary and secondary health facilities, public buildings across the 288 wards in the state.

He warned parents against noncompliance and to make sure they takes their children to the centres for the Immunization.

The SIO urged for maximum cooperation for the success of the programme.

‎Earlier, State Coordinator NPHCDA, Dr Kabiru Mustapha, said the Federal Government targeted 100m children for the exercise to reduce the morbidity and mortality rate in the country.

Available data shows that Nigeria from 2019 to 2024 reported a total of 94.304 confirmed measles cases with 714 death.

While in 2025 Nigeria recorded 4,637 measles cases with 1,539 confirmed cases.

Former Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba SAN, has stated that nation-building is an unending process and that no country ever truly reaches a final destination called “democracy” or full development.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Cross River State Council, he emphasized that the only viable path forward for Nigeria is continual progress, despite the many obstacles and internal challenges the country faces.

Describing Nigeria’s journey like that of a marriage, Senator Ndoma-Egba explained that just as marital unions go through romantic, realistic, and even bitter phases, so too does a country evolve through complex stages.

He stressed that commitment is what sustains both marriage and the nation. “You just say to your husband, ‘no matter how useless you are, I am not leaving you,’ and vice versa. It’s that same kind of commitment that is keeping Nigeria together,” he said, noting that no serious-minded person truly wishes for Nigeria’s breakup.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s 65 years of independence, he remarked that while the country may not have achieved all its goals, it has certainly made significant progress.

He acknowledged the nation’s challenges but maintained a hopeful outlook, calling on Nigerians to “keep moving forward.”

According to him, “65 years in the life of a nation is still very young,” especially when compared to developed countries with centuries of evolution.

Speaking further on Nigeria’s history, the Senator, who is also the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, walked down memory lane, recounting experiences of colonial rule, the struggle for independence, the civil war, multiple coups, and the evolution from regions to the current 36 states.
He pointed out how at one point Nigeria’s major challenge was not lack of funds but rather deciding how to spend the excess wealth.

According to him, this wide spectrum of experiences within a single lifetime is unusual and, in other nations, would span multiple generations.

“Elsewhere, your great-grandfather would tell you of the fight for independence. Your grandfather would talk about the civil war. But in our case, all of this has happened in one lifetime. It’s a cocktail of experiences,” he said, adding that such compressed history could easily overwhelm the mental health of a people.

In spite of the challenges, he described Nigeria’s unity as “a miracle,” given the social, political, and economic upheavals it has endured.

“We are still one nation. That in itself is a major achievement. Forget those miscreants who don’t know what they’re saying about breaking up Nigeria. No sane Nigerian wants that,” he asserted confidently.

Senator Ndoma-Egba concluded by reiterating that nation-building is a continuous process with no clear endpoint. He pointed out that even developed countries like the United States are showing signs of decline in democratic values, reminding Nigerians that “development is not a straight line.”

He urged citizens to remain patient, committed, and optimistic as the country continues its journey towards a more stable and prosperous future.
