Tinubu Presides Over National Council of States Meeting

President Bola Tinubu is presiding over the National Council of States (NCS) meeting holding at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.
Those attending the meeting, which commenced at about 1.35pm upon the arrival of President Tinubu and the rendition of the National Anthem, include Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who is the vice-chairman of the council and most of the 36 state governors.
Conspicuously absent at the meeting of the NCS, which has constitutional role to advise the president are former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.
Past leaders virtually attending the meeting, which is the second in the over two-year-old administration of President Tinubu, are former Heads of State, Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar.
The NCS membership include all former presidents and former Heads of State, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, Secretary to the government of the Federation (SGF), the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, all 36 state governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Although not officially confirmed, President Tinubu is expected to present his nominee for the position of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the council for consideration.
Among other key issues, the meeting is also billed to focus on pressing national security challenges, including the surge in banditry, kidnapping and communal violence across northern and central states.
The council is also expected to deliberate and provide advisory input on measures to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.

The family made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, the late broadcaster died peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
“We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service, and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings,” the statement read in part.
DAILY POST reports that the elder statesman was born on December 28, 1932.
He had a distinguished career as a diplomat, academic, advocate for integrity and corporate governance, among other accomplishments.

Dozens of Nigerian youths, under the umbrella of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, on Thursday took to the streets in Abuja to protest at the headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, over the Commission’s recent decision to deregister the council.
The demonstration, led by NYCN President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, marked the beginning of a 30-day nationwide protest aimed at forcing the CAC to reverse its action and remove the Registrar-General, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN.
The protesters accused Magaji of contempt of court, alleging that the deregistration was carried out despite an ongoing legal dispute.
The agitation came shortly after the Federal Ministry of Youth confirmed that the CAC had revoked NYCN’s registration certificate and installed a caretaker committee to oversee its operations, even as the matter remains before the Court of Appeal.
Displaying placards with messages such as “Registrar-General Must Go,” “Respect Court Orders,” and “Deregistration of NYCN is a Security Concern,” the demonstrators blocked the main entrance to the CAC headquarters, chanting solidarity songs and demanding justice.
Addressing journalists at the scene, Sukubo described the deregistration as an affront to the rule of law.
“This issue has already been ruled on by the Federal High Court and is currently pending before the Court of Appeal. We insist that due legal processes must be followed before any administrative decision is implemented,” he said.
He added that the youths would not relent until the council’s status was restored.
“We will sustain peaceful protests for 30 days across the country until NYCN is reinstated. We also urge relevant authorities to intervene because this matter affects the voice and unity of Nigerian youth,” Sukubo stated.
In his remarks, NYCN National Secretary, Comrade Gara Nongha, said the CAC’s decision was “deeply worrisome” and called for its immediate reversal.
“The NYCN is the legitimate umbrella body representing millions of Nigerian youths. We are demanding that its full registration rights be restored without delay,” he declared.
Also speaking, former NYCN Secretary-General, Barrister Abubakar Suleiman, stressed that the issue was already before the court and must be handled accordingly.
“The Federal High Court has already given directives on this matter. Any further steps must comply with the ongoing court proceedings,” he said.
Responding to the protesters, Acting Registrar-General and CAC Director of Customer Service, Julius Hanga, explained that the deregistration was only temporary and aimed at resolving outstanding issues.
He assured that the Commission was reviewing the situation and that the NYCN’s registration status would be restored once all legal and administrative matters were concluded.

Chukwu who was reacting to the Speaker’s high rating of Otti’s performance, said it was regrettable that an independent arm of government led by Emmanuel Emeruwa could be hobnobbing with the executive.
Chukwu, who represented Bende North in the 7th Abia State House of Assembly, stressed that the actions of the current lawmakers could affect the progress of the state.
“It is unfortunate that the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly who could not muster courage to challenge some of the activities of the executive, had the temerity to say that the Deputy Speaker (of the House of Representatives) is no match to Governor Otti,” Chukwu said.
Chukwu, who is currently a member of the North West Development Commission representing South -East, claimed that the present Assembly is taking advantage of Abia people to allow the mismanagement of Abia resources.

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports that the Presidency has stopped his principal’s monthly media chat.
It was reported that sources within the Presidency said Wike has been barred from holding his monthly media briefings due to concerns over his conduct, and the potential destabilisation of Rivers State through his comments.
The reports said Wike’s briefings have become notorious for harassment, threats against political opponents, and inflammatory rhetoric.
According to the report, Wike’s repeated attacks on Rivers elders who tried to mediate between him and Governor Sim Fubara raised concern that he might reignite chaos.
However, when DAILY POST reached out to Olayinka, he dismissed the report.
Asked about the veracity of the report, Olayinka simply responded, “Fake.”
