Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has appointed Oluwatosin Adejumo, a street puff-puff seller, as a chef in the Government House, Osogbo.
The governor made the announcement yesterday through his official X handle, describing Adejumo as “the puff-puff seller turned Government House chef.”
Adejumo, who holds a Nigerian Certificate in Education, NCE, and has professional catering training, came to Adeleke’s attention during a recent labour rally in Osogbo, where organised labour groups pledged support for his administration and endorsed his bid for a second term.
The governor explained that the appointment was in fulfillment of a promise he made after meeting Adejumo at the rally.
“A few days ago, I met Ms. Oluwatosin Adejumo during the rally where organised labour, in collaboration with other unions, endorsed the work we are doing and declared support for my re-election,” Adeleke wrote.
“Today, I fulfilled that promise by officially presenting her appointment letter as one of our Government House chefs. Beyond this employment, I have also granted her a scholarship up to the Master’s level, should she decide to further her education.
“Her story is a powerful reminder that hard work and dedication never go unnoticed. My administration remains committed to identifying, recognising, and uplifting excellence wherever we find it.”
A video shared on the governor’s page showed the moment Adeleke purchased Adejumo’s entire tray of puff-puff for ₦50,000 during the rally, before instructing aides to collect her details. The footage also captured a brief conversation where Adejumo disclosed her catering experience, which eventually earned her the new role.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to host members of Team Lagos following their emphatic victory at the 9th National Youth Games held in Asaba, Delta State.
Even before the official closing ceremony on Saturday, Team Lagos had already secured the top spot on the medals table, outshining host state Delta and third-placed Edo.
In a virtual meeting with the athletes and their officials, held from the SpringHill Hotel in Asaba, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his pride and gratitude to the young champions, their coaches, and the Lagos State Sports Commission.
“We are very proud of you for winning the National Youth Games. I am excited that Lagos is demonstrating once again that we are the best in Nigerian sports. In the next one or two weeks, we will all gather at the State House to celebrate this remarkable achievement and share dinner together” Sanwo Olu said.
The Governor also commended the parents of the athletes for supporting their children’s participation and encouraged the youngsters to uphold discipline as they progress to U-17 and national teams.
He praised the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, for his leadership and commitment to grassroots sports development.
The athletes responded with loud cheers of “Eko, Eko, Eko,” echoing their pride in representing the state.
In his remarks, Fatodu applauded Governor Sanwo-Olu for his support, noting that Lagos had reclaimed its place as the number one sporting state in Nigeria.
“There is no better way to thank you than this historic victory. For the first time in years, Lagos is back at the top of Nigerian sports. We are also proud that Lagos fielded athletes who were true to the age categories. A Lagos schoolboy defeated his ‘senior’ competitors to win the 200m title, while our U-15 girls claimed gold in football. This is only the beginning,” Fatodu said.
By Friday evening, Team Lagos had amassed a commanding lead on the medals table with 82 medals, 40 gold, 25 silver, and 17 bronze. Delta State followed with 30 gold, 32 silver, and 30 bronze, while Edo finished third with 30 gold, 12 silver, and 20 bronze.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has announced that he will be taking a short break from public engagements following medical advice.
Obi disclosed this in a post on his official X handle on Saturday, stating that he had not been feeling well while attending an event in Enugu.
According to him, a doctor prescribed medication and recommended one or two days of rest.
“In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend. I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding,” Obi wrote.
The former governor also highlighted his recent activities, including attending a tourism event in Enugu before travelling to Good Hope Specialist Hospital, Isulo, Orumba South LGA of Anambra State.
He said he made an initial contribution of ₦10 million to support the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria in acquiring and revitalising the hospital.
“Yesterday, after speaking at a Tourism event in Enugu, I travelled to Good Hope Specialist Hospital, Isulo, Orumba South LGA of Anambra State, which is being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, and made my initial modest contribution of ₦10 million to aid the Diocese’s acquisition and revitalisation of the hospital facility,” he said.
Obi commended the Diocese’s plan to transform the hospital into a comprehensive health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, describing healthcare as one of the most meaningful investments for the country.
From Isulo, he later proceeded to Owerri, Imo State, where he joined a dinner organised by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, as reiterated his commitment to supporting security agencies with technological gadgets to enhance surveillance and intelligence gathering towards tackling the rising insecurity in the state.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, stated this at a bimonthly press conference yesterday in Lafia.
According to the governor’s aide, the state government has already engaged a reputable security firm, and discussions have reached advanced levels on the gadgets required and the quantity needed to complement the current efforts of the security agencies.
He explained that the state was considering acquiring Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTVs), drones, among others, as part of measures to tackle the rising kidnapping and other insecurity in all parts of the state.
Given the growing concern of insecurity around the Lafia flyover and underpass, Ahemba said that the government had deployed Nasarawa Youths Empowerment Agency (NAYEA) personnel to man the area.
He reinstated the call on politicians to desist from premature campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The SSA said that the governor was concentrating on delivering on his four-year mandate and had not declared an intention to contest any election in 2027 despite calls by different groups from Nasarawa North Senatorial District.
He further said that the state government, through the Universal Basic Education Board, had revoked the nine contracts for the construction of schools for carrying out shoddy work.
He further said that the government had procured 16, 000 plastic and wooden chairs to be distributed to primary schools across the state to ensure that the students have comfort to learn.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, with support from the Nigerian Air Force, have launched fresh offensives on terrorist enclaves in Zango, Zamfara State.
According to a report by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operations were carried out on September 4 and 5 in Zango hills and surrounding areas.
Sources said the air force conducted strikes on terrorist hideouts while ground troops, working alongside operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, stormed the high grounds and engaged the criminals.
“Troops further searched Zango village overnight. No direct contact was made, but intercepts from terrorist channels revealed up to 15 fatalities and several others with gunshot wounds,” one of the sources said.
The offensive was part of sustained operations aimed at dislodging terrorists from their strongholds in the North-West.

In a bid to boost food security in Kano State, hundreds of farmers have been trained on organic farming and agroecology, as well as the threats posed by inorganic pesticides to human health, biodiversity, and food sovereignty.
The training, held at Jeji Restoration project site, one of Surge Africa’s flagship restoration projects, in Gabasawa LGA to deepen farmers’ knowledge of organic farming, discussed the growing threat of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and inorganic pesticides to health.
The two-day training included a practical demonstration of how to apply organic fertilisers and pesticides using local materials, such as cow dung, bananas, and cowpea.
Speaking at the event, Director of Surge Africa, Nasreen Al-Amin, described the usage of genetically modified organisms GMOs, by some farmers and synthetic pesticides as a false solution to the food and climate crises.
He said, “What Kano needs is investment in agroecology, which empowers farmers, protects biodiversity, and ensures safe, healthy food for its people.”
“Agrochemicals are causing severe health issues for farmers, including respiratory illness, kidney disease, and cancer, with 75 per cent of Nigerian women farmers affected by pesticide exposure,” he stated.
At the close of the engagement, expert farmers and civil society groups jointly submitted a petition to the Kano State Government calling for a ban on GMOs to safeguard indigenous seeds,
The organisers, including the Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF), Surge Africa, and the GMO-Free Nigeria Alliance, called for addressing the critical issues of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and harmful pesticides in our farming systems and value chains.
Al-amin is a climate justice advocate in Nigeria and founder of Surge Africa, a non-profit organisation with focus on climate change remediation, policy advocacy, education and human capitalisation through capacity building and sustainable livelihoods development.
