Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has condemned the killing of soldiers, immigration officers, and civilians in recent Boko Haram attacks on communities in Borno State.

The attack on Darajamal village in Bama Local Government Area last Friday left five soldiers and 58 civilians dead, while an unspecified number of women and girls were abducted.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, with support from the Air Component, reportedly killed over 30 of the attackers during a counteroffensive.
Two immigration officers were also killed in a separate attack in Monguno Local Government Area last Thursday.

In a statement on Sunday, Ndume expressed shock over the renewed killings and sympathised with the families of the victims, including security personnel.

He commended troops for their efforts but described the rising attacks across Borno South, North, and Central as worrisome.

The senator called on the Federal Government to strengthen security by deploying drones, attack helicopters, modern equipment, and arms to the North-East. He also advocated for armed community defence groups to complement military operations, noting the limitations of CJTF, hunters, and vigilantes.

Ndume urged residents to cooperate with security agencies, particularly by sharing intelligence on terrorist activities.

Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 elections, Omoyele Sowore, at the weekend described Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State as one of the worst governors in the country.

Sowore, who is the convener of the #TakeitBack movement, on his verified social media handle, described Aiyedatiwa as an empty and fleeting governor.

He made the claim while reacting to a viral video of the governor, who was seen dancing energetically during an event in Akure, Ondo State capital.

Sowore said, “One of the worst governors Nigeria has ever had is Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State not because he’s busy dancing, but because he has nothing to offer. Empty and fleeting, just like the dance here itself.”

While reacting to the position of Sowore, an aide to Aiyedatiwa, Yomi Oyekan described Sowore as a clout chaser.

“Mr. Sowore, let’s end the delusion. You trade in spectacle, not substance. You have built a résumé on arrests, hashtags, failed protests, and laughable electoral showings. That is the sum of your political life: thin, noisy, and inconsequential.

“Keep shouting from the sidelines if it comforts you, but don’t mistake attention for relevance. History has already graded you and you failed the exam.

An Ibadan-based cleric, Reverend Samuel Kayode Olawoyin, has appealed to Nigerians to desist from giving the country a bad name.

Olawoyin who is the Provost of the Cathedral of St Peter Anglican Church, Aremo, Ibadan, made this declaration on Sunday.

The cleric in the statement signed by the Ibadan North Anglican Diocesan Communicator, Chief Ayoade Solomon Olugbemiga, and made available to DAILY POST, appealed to Nigerians to desist from giving the country bad appellations.

Olawoyin, in his sermon titled “Staying focused despite persecution”, appealed to Nigerians to see the country as a blessed one.

The cleric while reading from the books of Matthew 10:22 and Isaiah 62: 2, said for the prophesy of “New Nigeria” to be fulfilled, we need to sincerely love our country.

He advised the citizens to imbibe the spirit of attitudinal change, charging them to stop cursing the country but instead begin to call Nigeria good names.

Olawoyin said, “I charge you all to start calling Nigeria Blessed” so that you can be blessed as individuals, groups, corporate bodies as well as a nation.

“In the nearest future, I see a new Nigeria of plenty, a secured nation occupying its rightful position in the committee of nations”.
