Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, has cautioned Nigerians against patronizing online loan platforms, describing them as “agents of the devil in covenant with the spirit of debt”.
Speaking during Sunday’s service in Abuja, Enenche decried the rising cases of depression and suicide linked to the operations of loan apps across the country.
“Many people have been deceived by the promise of quick financial relief,” he said.
“But once they fall into the trap, they are subjected to harassment, intimidation, and embarrassment that sometimes push them into depression or even suicide.”
The cleric explained that victims are often overwhelmed with threats, automated calls, and messages after securing such loans.
“Some of these platforms even go as far as publishing defamatory statements and fake obituaries online to disgrace debtors,” he added.
Pastor Enenche stressed that Christians must resist the temptation of easy money, warning that such platforms were destructive.
“These things are demonic covenants with debt, and no child of God should have anything to do with them,” he declared.
His remarks come amid rising public outcry against the unethical practices of online loan providers in Nigeria, many of whom have been accused of breaching privacy rights and employing extreme measures to recover debts.

Kaduna: Kachia residents lament neglect, appeal for media, govt attention
Residents of Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State have cried out over the underreporting of recurring bandit attacks and kidnappings, appealing to major media organisations to draw attention to their plight.
In a statement signed by Rev. Fr. Agbo Gabriel, the residents said that in the early hours of Sunday, September 7, armed bandits invaded Wakeh village in Agunu District, killing eight people, injuring several others, and razing houses and properties.
The statement added that similar attacks have continued in Ankwa, Bishini, Katari and other villages, leaving residents displaced, traumatised and desperate.
“The poor people of Kachia town, who used to host internally displaced persons from surrounding villages, are now themselves being targeted,” Rev. Fr. Gabriel said. “Kidnappings from farms and homes are happening daily, yet media coverage remains virtually absent. We are forced to ask: where are the correspondents or reporters of major media houses in Kaduna and Kachia?”
The community appealed to Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, to urgently intervene and address the security challenges, stressing Kachia’s agricultural and economic importance to the state.
They also called for stronger community-based surveillance, engagement of local leaders and collective action to protect vulnerable villages.
Rev. Fr. Gabriel further emphasised vigilance and unity among residents, urging them to report suspicious activities and support one another in defending their communities.
“Kachia is a land of great potential and does not deserve such neglect,” the statement concluded. “Media houses, we need your attention. Kachia too exists.”

NOA, NAFDAC Lead as Consumers Vote in Value Awards
The race for the 2025 Consumers Value Awards (CVA) continues to gather momentum as consumers vote with surprising results already emerging from the first month of polling.
For the very first time in its four-year history, the CVA has opened its platform to evaluate public sector agencies alongside private sector brands, and the response has been electric.
Leading the pack, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has surged ahead with an impressive 98 per cent per cent of votes, earning the badge of Outstanding Federal Agency on Consumer Engagement. Closely following, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is making waves with 64 per cent of votes as the Most Consumer-Friendly Regulatory Agency.
Other federal bodies are also in the contest as the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Com-mission (FCCPC) and the Nigerian Com-munications Commission (NCC) are neck-and-neck.
They both tied at 48 per cent each in the keenly contested Best Complaint Resolution category.
The private sector categories are equally buzzing with excitement. For instance, Domino’s Pizza is leading the Quick Service Restaurant category with 52 per cent of votes. Uber tops Most Reliable Hailing Service at 54 per cent, while Adron Homes dominates the Best Real Estate Company category with a commanding 82 per cent.
According to the Convener of the CVA, Akonte Ekine, this edition marks a historic expansion of the initiative.
“This is the first time we are bringing public sector agencies into the CVA, which has traditionally focused on private brands. We want to track how government institutions measure up in consumer satisfaction and trust. Interestingly, while state governments were observed in the past two editions, Lagos State remains the only one consistently aligning with consumer rights through policy initiatives,” he said.
Across the broader marketplace, familiar household names are also in fierce competition: Golden Penny leads the Best Packaged Food category with 50 per cent.
Golden Terra Soya Oil is ahead with 40 per cent in Most Preferred Healthy Cooking Oil. Trophy Lager Beer dominates as Most Trusted Alcoholic Beverage with a massive 79 per cent.
Guinness Stout follows closely with 66 per cent as Most Trusted Stout Brand. Chivita sits comfortably on top of the Most Trusted Non-Alcoholic Beverage list with 59 per cent.
The financial services sector is equally alive with voter interest as First Bank of Nigeria Plc holds 41 per cent in the Best Consumer Bank category. Kuda Microfinance Bank is a clear favourite with 82 per cent as Best Microfinance Bank.
In oral health, Pepsodent, Colgate, and Oral-B are locked in a three-way tie at 25 per cent each, showing how divided consumer loyalty can be in highly competitive categories.
With 58 categories in this year’s awards, every sector of the marketplace is being put under the consumer lens. Aside from the Breakfast Cereal category where only two brands are listed, most categories feature at least three brands battling for the prestigious CVA Badge of Honour.
Voting, which began on August 5, 2025, will remain open until October 5, 2025. This year’s theme, “Beyond Prices: Consumer Trust, Digital Experience & Brand Accountability”, underscores the need for brands—and now government agencies—to deliver not just affordability, but transparency, innovation, and genuine consumer value.
The grand finale and award ceremony will take place on November 26, 2025 in Lagos.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, has declared full solidarity with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG.
The industrial dispute between NUPENG, and the Dangote Refinery has taken a new turn with PENGASSAN also issuing a strike threat to shut down the refinery’s operations if the company continues to resist unionisation.
PENGASSAN’s General Secretary, Lumumba Okugbawa, in a statement on Monday expressed solidarity with NUPENG, describing the denial of workers’ right to unionise at Dangote Refinery as unacceptable and a direct violation of Nigerian labour laws and international conventions.
“On behalf of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, we are writing to express our unwavering solidarity with our ally and sister union, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), in their ongoing efforts to secure the rights of tanker drivers who are currently being hired at the Dangote Refinery.
“We wish to put on record that Dangote Refinery management has been resisting potential members of both PENGASSAN and NUPENG from joining the Association since its inception. All diplomatic efforts to persuade the company’s management have so far not yielded the desired result.
“It is with deep concern that PENGASSAN observes the increasing resistance to unionisation at the Dangote Refinery, as the continued denial of workers’ rights will no longer be tolerated going forward,” the statement read.
The association warned that unless the refinery’s management changes its stance, it would be left with no option but to join NUPENG in a showdown that could cripple refinery operations.

Strike: We are dying from snake bites – FCT doctors lament state of public hospitals
The Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, says public hospitals in the nation’s capital have been overtaken by snakes and other reptiles.
The president of ARD FCT, George Ebong, made the claim while addressing journalists on Monday.
According to him, doctors in Abuja are dying from snake bites.
DAILY POST reports that ARD FCT declared a seven-day warning strike over poor working conditions, remuneration and other demands.
Ebong said that the shutdown would remain until the FCTA met its demands.
He revealed that doctors are mentally sick over poor working conditions.
“This is all and one shutdown for seven days. All of our demands must be met before we will resume work.
“We have been believing them for the past years with nothing done.
“Our hospitals were affected by snakes; some doctors died from snake bites.
“We are becoming harmful to our patients. We can’t keep treating patients when we are mentally sick,” he said.
He described the current state of Abuja hospital as deplorable and embarrassing, saying doctors work without the most basic equipment or consumables.
A communique issued by the association after a meeting on 5th September, 2025, highlighted twelve resolutions.
The communique read: “Arising from this meeting, after rigors deliberation, and taking into consideration the fact that management is unwilling to acknowledge the emergency in the FCT health sector, Congress unanimously resolved as follows:
“Congress unanimously agreed to embark on a one-week warning strike starting from 8:00 am, Monday 8th September 2025, to 8:00 am, Monday 15th September 2025. At the end of this warning strike, Congress shall reconvene to reassess the commitments and progress made by FCTA.
“Immediate payment of salary arrears owed to all members employed in 2023 without further delay.
“Immediate and urgent recruitment of new doctors must commence without delay, with a firm, documented assurance that the process will be fully concluded before the end of this year. The bulk of these appointments should prioritise medical officers, who form the backbone and foot soldiers of the health workforce. This is not a routine request, but an emergency current manpower crisis has already exceeded manageable limits and now poses grave, potentially catastrophic risks to both patients and doctors.
“Immediate payment of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) to all members. Most members have already completed or are concluding exams this year, and any further delay will not be entertained.
“Erroneous Deductions and Irregular Salary Payments. The Congress demands that management, as a matter of utmost urgency, address the continuous erroneous deductions from members’ salaries and immediately rectify the irregular and epileptic pattern of salary payments.
“Immediate release of documented timelines for the completion of skipping and conversion for all members. This process must be concluded within one (1) month.
“Immediate signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) mandating: Skipping of members within three (3) months of employment. The conversion of post-Part II Fellows to the Consultant cadre not later than six (6) months after. These standards are already obtainable in other centres and must be enforced in FCTA.
“Immediate release of timelines for promotion exercises, with full payment of arrears. This process must also be concluded within one (1) month.
“Immediate payment of the wage award arrears to our members. Most federal and state colleagues have been paid, and FCTA doctors cannot continue to be sidelined.
“Immediate payment of arrears from the 25/35 per cent upward review of CONMESSs, as already implemented and paid in most states and at the federal level.
“Urgent renovation, equipping, and upgrading of FCTA hospitals to world-class standards. The current state of our facilities is deplorable and embarrassing, with doctors left to work without the most basic equipment or consumables.
“Immediate payment of outstanding hazard allowance arrears. The deliberate withholding of this entitlement is unacceptable and appears to be a calculated attempt to undermine and devalue our members.”
