NOGASA, NARTO, PETROAN Join NUPENG Strike against Dangote

The Natural Oil & Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA), the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) have announced that they will from midnight today join the strike declared by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
NUPENG is currently locked in a major dispute with the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, over the company’s decision to recruit thousands of drivers for its new fleet of compressed natural gas-powered trucks under a condition it says bars them from belonging to any existing trade union.
The union began an indefinite nationwide strike this morning, although it has yet to have much impact as its leadership is expected to meet with officials of the federal government this afternoon in negotiations to end the stalemate.
Speaking during a joint briefing in Abuja on Monday, the National President of NOGASA, Benneth Korie, noted that given the urgency of the matter, the organisation found itself with no other choice, but to consider withdrawing its services nationwide in solidarity.
“NOGASA acknowledges and is proud of the refinery’s role in enhancing Nigeria’s petroleum industry. However, our members have raised concerns regarding the effects of direct supply to end-users such as telecommunication sites, hotels, and construction companies etc
“As responsible employers, we are particularly worried about the loss of supply opportunities and job losses that could jeopardise the livelihoods of those involved across the distribution value chain. In light of these concerns, we formally requested a meeting with Dangote Petroleum Refinery to address these issues. Our aim is to seek solutions that would balance the interests of all stakeholders in this sector.
“Regrettably, we have yet to receive a response from Dangote Petroleum Refinery. We strongly believe that such a meeting is vital not only for our members but also for the interest of energy security. As suppliers of petroleum products, we remain committed to protecting our businesses while serving the nation’s interests.
“Given the urgency of this matter, we find ourselves with no other choice but to consider withdrawing our services nationwide in solidarity with NUPENG and other stakeholders if this situation remains unresolved,” Korie added.
Besides, Korie appealed to the President Bola Tinubu, to intervene and facilitate dialogue between NOGASA, downstream distribution stakeholders and the management of the refinery.
“It is hereby directed that all oil and gas suppliers to all construction companies, industries, hotels and telecommunication sites nationwide should withdraw the services with effects from tomorrow September 9, 2025 pending when the matter is resolved,” Korie stressed.
Also, NARTO has notified Nigerians of its decision to join the strike action by NUPENG, describing it as a struggle against monopolistic and anti-competition practices.
National President of NARTO, Yusuf Othman, stated that although the organisation appreciates the injection of new trucks and other investments into the petroleum distribution value chain, it strongly and unequivocally rejects any plan for free distribution of petroleum products.
“The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) wishes to notify all stakeholders and the general public of its firm position in support of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) in the ongoing struggle against monopolistic and anti-competition practices being advanced by the Dangote Group in the downstream oil and gas sector.
“While we recognise and appreciate the injection of new trucks and other investments into the petroleum distribution value chain, we must state categorically that NARTO strongly and unequivocally rejects any plan for free distribution of petroleum products. Such an approach is not only unsustainable but is also a deliberate attempt to undermine and eliminate the thousands of independent transporters who form the backbone of Nigeria’s petroleum distribution network.
“At present, NARTO members collectively operate more than 30,000 trucks across the country, employing thousands of drivers, assistants, and service providers. These operations sustain millions of dependents and are supported by financial commitments from both local and international banks, as well as marketers and depot owners,” NARTO posited.
It explained that any any attempt to eliminate the established distribution structure will lead to loss of investment, destruction of livelihoods, threaten energy security, and exploit consumers in the long run.
Also speaking, the President of PETROAN, Billy Gillis-Harry, stated that what the Dangote refinery was about to embark on was not sustainable, stressing that it will not be in the interest of the downstream oil and gas sector in the long run.

Amaechi told his ally, and erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party, nPDP, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, that Dangote had already started the construction of his refinery in Lagos State when he visited Port Harcourt.
Amaechi said the purpose of Dangote’s visit was to ask for a land to build a gas plant and not a refinery as Wihioka portrayed.
The ex governor’s response came as concerned citizens expressed concern over his silence to the accusation made on national television by Wihioka.
Wihioka, a former federal lawmaker, had said that Amaechi denied Rivers State the opportunity of hosting Dangote Refinery because of the former Governor’s personal demand to the businessman before approving a land for the mega project.
The former lawmaker, who represented Ikwerre/Emohua Constituency in the House of Representatives, said Dangote left and never returned because of Amaechi’s personal demands.
Some Rivers elders such as Chief Bob Wali, had urged Amaechi to clear the air on the allegation by Wihioka, and in reaction through a text to Eze, Amaechi said, he willingly obliged Dangote by showing him a befitting place opposite the Onne Seaport for his gas plant construction.
According to him, sadly, Dangote never returned to build the gas plant after he gave him land and he[Amaechi] never asked for anything from the businessman.
“I never asked Dangote for anything. I gave him land opposite the Onne seaport. He had already commenced construction of the refinery in Lagos but wanted land for a gas plant.”

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command has commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the lifeless body of a man discovered inside a car at the National Assembly Complex.
Josephine Adeh, FCT Police Public Relations Officer of the command said in a statement on Monday, that the command received a call regarding the incident on Sunday.
She said the body is suspected to be that of a labourer, working at a construction site within the complex.
The PPRO said the Divisional Police Officer, DPO of the National Assembly Division, immediately responded to the call and “discovered the deceased inside a red Peugeot 406 motor vehicle with registration number BWR-577 BF”.
Josephine said the body of the deceased was promptly evacuated to Asokoro General Hospital, where “medical personnel confirmed that it was already in an advanced state of decomposition”.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, has ordered a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and directed that efforts be intensified to establish the identity of the deceased.
“Further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses”, she added.

IOM Unveils €5.1m Project to Foster Peace, Socio-economic Stability in Katsina, Zamfara

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has unveiled a €5.1 million Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience (CPCRR) project in Katsina and Zamfara States to foster peace and socio-economic stability in the states.
The 18-month European Union-funded project seeks to tackle the root causes of conflict through strategic interventions to strengthen governance, promoting social cohesion and enhancing community resilience in the two states.
In collaboration with Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) and Mercy Corps, the community-driven project was launched on Monday in Katsina by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
Presenting an overview of the CPCRR project, the IOM Programme Manager, Peace Building and Reconciliation, Kutumbakana Jean Nahesi, said it would be implemented in eight Katsina local governments and three in Zamfara State.
He said the project would reinforce peace and socio-economic stability in the states through integrated interventions to enhance community resilience in the face of violent extremism and climate change.
He stated that the project would also foster conflict prevention and social cohesion mechanisms by empowering local communities and governance structures to resolve disputes in the states.
Nahesi said: “The Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience in Katsina and Zamfara States, North-west Nigeria is an 18-month project aimed at reinforcing peace and socio-economic stability.
“The budget for this project is €5,150,000.00; €3,639,140 for IOM, €1,177,769 for MCN and €333,091 for CDD. This budget is for both Katsina and Zamfara States.
“The project targets IDPs, returnees, host community population and government stakeholders across 10 selected LGAs in Katsina and Zamfara States (eight LGAs in Katsina and two LGAs in Zamfara, we are adding one LGA to make it three LGAs).”
Unveiling the project and the steering committee, Governor Radda described it as a new era of hope, partnership and collective action to rebuild communities and restore lasting peace in the state.

The Yobe State Police Command has called on residents of the state to remain vigilant and report crimes, suspicious activities, or criminal hideouts to the nearest police station or security formation.
The Command through its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, made the call in a statement issued on Monday.
The call became necessary as the Command intensified efforts to sustain the ongoing fight against crime and criminality in the state.
“With the approach of the year’s end and the anticipated rise in criminal activities security strategies by engaging grassroots police personnel, including Divisional Police Officers, as well as officers in charge of outstations and outposts across the state.
“This engagement focuses on conducting analytical assessments of crime trends in various towns and villages”, the Command said.
It said as part of these renewed strategies, it has recorded successes in major towns and cities through coordinated round-the-clock patrols, raids on criminal hideouts, and enhanced visibility policing.
“These achievements are a testament to the effective collaboration between the Police and sister security agencies in their collective mandate to secure the state.
“In the third quarter of 2025, the combined efforts of the Police, sister security agencies, vigilante groups, and the cooperation of residents have led to a 70% reduction in crime across Yobe State,” the Command.
The Police Command urged members of the public to continue supporting security efforts, while reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the security of lives and property.
