A Magistrate Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has issued a warrant for the arrest of businessman Samson Davies, founder of Signature Advisory Limited, in connection with allegations of misappropriation, criminal breach of trust, and defamation.

The warrant, dated July 29, 2025, was contained in certified court records.

According to law enforcement officials familiar with the matter, efforts were made in early August to execute the warrant at Mr Davies’ Abuja residence in Wuse Zone 2 to no avail.

When asked to respond, Davies did not directly address the Zamfara proceedings but instead referred to a separate summons reportedly issued by an Abuja court on August 12, two weeks after the Zamfara warrant was signed.

The arrest order adds to a series of pending legal issues involving the businessman.

In June, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, announced that it had filed a criminal charge against Davies and his company, Signature Advisory Limited, before the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the commission arraigned Davies and his firm before Justice Mojisola Dada on a one-count charge bordering on alleged dishonest conversion of ₦190,791,494 belonging to Ronchess Global Resources Plc.

The charge sheet stated: “That you, Samson Davies and Signature Advisory Limited, sometime between October 2022 and October 2023, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly converted to your own use the aggregate sum of N190,791,494 (One Hundred and Ninety Million, Seven Hundred and Ninety-One Thousand, Four Hundred and Ninety-Four Naira), property of Ronchess Global Resources Plc.”

Davies pleaded not guilty to the allegation. Following his plea, EFCC counsel C.C. Okezie asked the court to remand him in custody pending trial.

Defence counsel Ifeoma Esom, however, requested bail on liberal terms.

Justice Dada subsequently granted bail in the sum of N50 million with two sureties in like sum.

One of the sureties was required to own landed property in Lagos, and the defendant was directed to deposit his international passport with the court.

The sureties were also ordered to produce evidence of tax clearance.

Court records further indicated that following his arraignment, Davies was remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Facility in Lagos until July, when he was released upon meeting the bail conditions. The trial was adjourned to October 2025 for continuation of proceedings.

The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board, BASUBEB, has tasked the 20 Local Government Chairmen in the state to dismiss teachers who abandon their duties.

The Executive Chairman of BASUBEB, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed, gave the directive on Friday at the flag-off of the 2025/2026 statewide enrolment campaign in Kirfi Local Government Area.

Mohammed explained that the decision would act as a warning to others and push teachers to take their work more seriously. He said chairmen only needed to notify SUBEB once the action had been taken.

He also promised that the board would reward teachers who are committed, punctual, and hardworking to encourage them.

The SUBEB boss, however, expressed concern over the low enrolment of school-aged children in the state, describing it as a threat to the future of the young generation.

According to him, although the state government is making efforts to improve the quality of basic education, many parents are not supporting the process by failing to send their children to school.

He stressed that girl child education is vital for the growth of society and urged parents to make sure their daughters attend school.

“I want to call on all the Local Government Chairmen in the state to take responsibility for supervising and monitoring schools in their areas because SUBEB cannot be everywhere at the same time.

“The Board will not rest until Basic education becomes an example for others, in line with UNICEF and UBEC guidelines,” he said.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Mohammed Lawal, explained that the enrolment campaign is aimed at involving traditional institutions to mobilise parents and guardians to enrol their children in school.

He said the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE, would also work with the traditional institutions to push for higher enrolment and continuity in learning.

Earlier, Dr Nuzhat Rafique, Chief of Field Office of UNICEF Bauchi, commended the state for reducing the number of out-of-school children from 1.5 million to 500,000. She said this was achieved through the support of the governor, traditional leaders, religious leaders, communities, and parents.

“This is a huge progress, but still, having 500,000 children out of school is one of the main goals for us to bring them also into schools.

“Education is the right of every child. No child should be left out of school and that is my humble request. As the government is putting policies and strategies in place to bring children back to school, everybody should support the effort,” she said.

While assuring UNICEF’s support to basic education in Bauchi, she called on all stakeholders to work together to make sure every child goes to school.

The Federal Government has approved a fresh allocation of ₦1,854,277,768 to fund the education, rehabilitation, and reintegration of Chibok schoolgirls rescued from captivity by Boko Haram terrorists. 

The Director of Press and Public Relations, of the Ministry of education, Boriowo Folasade revealed this in a statement on Thursday. He said the intervention will sustain the Chibok Girls Rehabilitation Programme to 2027.

“The Federal Government has committed the sum of ₦1,854,277,768 to complete the Chibok Girls Intervention Programme, covering tuition, accommodation, vocational training, psychosocial care, and other support up to 2027,” the statement reads.

It stressed that the initiative is a moral obligation to safeguard the girls’ future. “This commitment is not only financial, it is moral. It represents Nigeria’s pledge to turn a dark chapter in our nation’s history into a story of resilience, dignity and hope.”

Recall that on April 14, 2014, Boko Haram insurgents abducted 276 girls from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State while 108 girls have so far been rescued or released with 87 girls still remain missing. 

The statement revealed that the package covers tuition, accommodation, vocational training, psychosocial support, and other welfare services for the freed girls, who remain under federal care more than a decade after their abduction. 

The ministry also highlighted that 68 of the girls are currently enrolled at the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, owned by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. It added that payments for tuition and accommodation at the institution would continue.

“So Nigeria knows what to do to the justice system. I have said that the legislature enjoys so much budgetary allocation and also enjoys technology. The executive also enjoys the same as compared to the judiciary.”

The Niger State Bureau for Religious Affairs has clarified that it has not banned Islamic scholars and clerics from preaching in the state

The Bureau in a statement signed its Media Aide, Amb. Haruna Mustapha (Dago) said instead, it is introducing a Da’awah Registration Form and Certification to promote religious harmony and unity in the state.

“This information is incorrect and amounts to misinformation. The Agency does not have the authority to arbitrarily ban Islamic scholars or clerics unless there is a clear violation of established guidelines, ” Mustapha noted.

He stated that Islamic scholars and clerics will need to obtain the form and undergo a basic evaluation prior to certification.

The Bureau disclosed that the registration period commences from September 4 to September 30, 2025, adding that the initiative aims to ensure that preaching aligns with values of peace and mutual respect.

“For clarity, the meeting held on 4th September 2025 by the Peace and Conflict Management Committee, under the leadership of the Director General, was convened to introduce the Da’awah Registration Form and Certification Process.

“This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to prevent misunderstandings and curb the spread of misleading preaching across the state,” he added.

Furthermore, the statement maintained that the Committee has been mandated to issue guidelines to all applicants, and any violation from the guidelines may lead to withdrawal of the certificate granted.
