The United Nations has condemned the killing of at least 63 people in Darajamal village, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

The attack, which occurred on Friday evening, left five soldiers and 58 civilians dead.

Over 20 houses, vehicles, food items, and other valuables belonging to resettled Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, were also destroyed.

In a statement on Sunday, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall, described the incident as appalling and urged Nigerian authorities to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“Preliminary reports indicate that more than 50 civilians were killed when suspected members of a non-state armed group attacked Darajamal. An unknown number of people were also abducted, with others fleeing with injuries. At least 28 houses were reportedly burned,” Fall said.

He extended condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Borno State, while calling for the immediate release of abducted residents.

The UN noted that the killings reflect the rising wave of violent attacks in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States this year, which have targeted farmers, fishermen, traders, IDP camps, and rural communities.

It reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting those affected by conflict in the region in collaboration with Nigerian authorities.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and federal government workers have demanded an urgent review of the national minimum wage, insisting that the current N70,000 is no longer sustainable.

They made the demand following the bold steps taken by several states across the country to increase the minimum wage of their workers above the N70,000 benchmark, in response to the prevailing economic realities.

The labour unions and workers who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in separate interviews, contended that in the face of galloping inflation, rising costs of food, transportation, housing, and other essential services, the N70,000 minimum wage could no longer sustain them.

It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu signed the new National Minimum Wage Bill into law in July 2024, raising the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.

The amended law applies to the entire country, including the federal government, states, local governments, and the private sector.

However, on August 27, 2025, Imo increased the minimum wage from N70,000 to N104,000, along with corresponding increases in the entire salary structure for the state’s civil servants.

The state Governor, Hope Uzodinma, had said that the salary review, arrived at during a meeting with organised labour, was part of efforts to improve the welfare of workers.

Before the bold and applauded step by Uzodinma, some other states had implemented higher minimum wages for their workers.

On October 16, 2024, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State announced a minimum wage increase to N85,000, with a promise to further raise it to N100,000 in 2025.

Rivers State equally approved N85,000 minimum wage on October 18, 2024, while Bayelsa, Niger, Enugu, and Akwa Ibom states approved N80,000 for their workers. Ogun and Delta states are implementing N77,000 minimum wage, Benue and Osun states raised the wage to N75,000, while Ondo State pegged its own at N73,000.

Acting General Secretary of the NLC, Mr. Benson Upah, told NAN on Sunday in Abuja that inflation has eroded the value of the N70,000 minimum wage, leaving many workers unable to meet basic needs.

“The truth is that N70,000 is not sustainable under the present economic situation.

“Workers are under immense pressure, and unless the government responds quickly, the crisis of survival will only worsen.

“We have since engaged the Federal Government on this matter at different times and fora,” he said.

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has released fresh prophecies regarding the upcoming governorship elections in Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun States.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele revealed that the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Anambra State can’t win the upcoming election without the help of God.

He disclosed that Ifeanyi Ubah would have been the only one who could have defeated Governor Charles Soludo if he were alive.

The popular prophet also cautioned Soludo to be careful over attempts to “rig him out of the election through the back door.”

He disclosed that Soludo can only be defeated if the opposition forms a united front in the state.

Primate Ayodele said: “Anambra: If Ifeanyi Ubah were alive, he would have been the one to unseat Soludo, but the current APC candidate doesn’t know what to do to win.

“The Labour Party candidate doesn’t know how to go about it, and the PDP candidate will not make any impact. I would advise all of them to come together and give it to Soludo.”

In Ekiti, Primate Ayodele said Governor Biodun Oyebanji is in a good stead to return for a second term.

He, however, cautioned him to be watchful against internal crises, court issues, and evil elements in his government.

He said: “Ekiti, there are a lot of people who hate the Ekiti governor, but the point is Oyebanji is favoured to return for his second term.

“The crisis in Ekiti has not started yet, but God will help him to survive. They will also use a court matter against him after the election. He must not sleep; he must do more security checks to know who to put into position. Though they are looking at fighting him from the federal level, he must wake up. He should put so many things in order for his victory to be certain.”

In Osun, the popular prophet warned Governor Ademola Adeleke to prepare for battles because the opposition will blackmail him and stir up tribal crisis.

“Osun: APC will fight Adeleke big time and try everything to destabilise him. He needs more grassroots support from the kings, youths, farmers, and artisans.”

The popular prophet urged Adeleke to be careful with his policies, stressing that the state House of Assembly would be an instrument that would be used against him.

He challenged Adeleke to be watchful because the APC is determined to rig him out by all means despite doing better than his predecessors.

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have recovered a cache of arms and military-related equipment in Wukari Local Government Council of Taraba State.

The recovery, according to a statement made available to journalists on Sunday in Jalingo by the Acting Assistant Spokesperson of the Brigade, Lt. Umar Mohammed, was made during a cordon-and-search operation at Ikyaior village of the aforementioned council.

“The operation, conducted on September 6, followed credible intelligence reports indicating that a suspected criminal, identified as Mr. Terhemen Nzagha, popularly known as ‘Full Fire,’ was allegedly harbouring armed criminals in the Sabon-Gida Leke area along the Benue-Taraba border,” the Brigade said.

While no suspects were apprehended during the operation, a significant quantity of military-grade items was reported to have been discovered and recovered.

The recovered items, as listed by the Army, include five Special Forces face caps, three AK-47 magazines, three FN rifle magazines, three rifle slings, two FN rifle breech blocks and slides, one AK-47 firing mechanism, two FN rifle stocks, two FN rifle springs, one mini-telescopic sight, one AK-47 rifle butt, one FN rifle bag, one badminton bag, two charms, and one flashlight.

Overwhelmed by the development, the Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift execution and professionalism during the mission.

He reiterated the Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Taraba State.

“The 6 Brigade remains vigilant, proactive, and resolute in flushing out criminal elements from Taraba and its environs,” General Uwa stated.

He also urged the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information, noting that civilian cooperation is crucial to sustaining the military’s momentum in combating insecurity.

He called on all citizens to remain security conscious and to report suspicious activity through appropriate channels.
