A social commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has described Northern Nigeria as defeated physically and tactically.

He blamed greed, shortsightedness, and societal weaknesses for the region’s current crises.

In a post on X on Sunday, Shehu argued that some Northerners mortgaged the North on selfish grounds just for them to remain comfortable, contributing to what he described as an inevitable defeat.

“The defeat became inevitable on account of the avoidable stupidity and shortsightedness of most Northerners,” he wrote,

“A society whose elders are largely selfish, cowardly, or overly focused on survival is destined for defeat. Such is the case with Northern society. When a society spends its mornings, afternoons, and nights in a state of sleep or inaction, it drifts into a coma from which it may never awaken. This too describes the North.

“With the level of hunger In the North, increasing death tolls from wanton, killings, arson, deliberate murder, hunger, starvation, all forms of diseases, malnutrition, total collapse of infrastructure, compromised culture and values, total confusion, disarray, frustration, which are all signs of a conquered society, what remains is for the North to surrender and become prisoners of war.

According to him, some Northerners may end up as war slaves in Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, or Ondo, where over time they could lose their origin and identity and merge into a single community with only one tribe.

“The North became conquered and decimated under democracy with both bullets, economics and its democratic stupidity and docility,” he wrote
