NSA Ribadu mismanaged terrorism, banditry in North – El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday alleged that the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, under the leadership of Nuhu Ribadu, has mismanaged terrorism and banditry in the North.

El-Rufai said ONSA under Ribadu’s leadership and a “certain senator” have shown incompetence in the management of terrorism and banditry in the North.

He accused ONSA under Ribadu’s leadership of coordinating the payment of ransom to bandits.

However, ONSA dismissed such claims, describing them as falsehood.

Responding, El-Rufai, in a lengthy statement, insisted that ONSA under Ribadu politicised security.

His statement on X reads partly: “This is my response to the unfortunate statement from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the fake, but predictable hot air from Kaduna, following my live television interview on Channels Television last night.

“As usual, the combined voices of the Government of Kaduna State (KDSG) and ONSA, instead of responding to the core issues I raised, seek to deflect responsibility by alleging that exposing them amounts to politicizing security.

“As a person whose three siblings served in the Nigerian Army and the Airforce, with one of them rising to the rank of general, I have and will continue to appreciate and honor the memory of our citizens in uniform who have made sacrifices for Nigeria. I will also continue to appreciate the immense work that continues to be done by gallant officers of the military and security agencies.

“It is a well-known fact to discerning Nigerians that the face of the politicization of national security for politically intended purposes resides, for the first time in our recent history, in the ONSA under its present leadership.

“If the ONSA thinks Nigerians are not following its unclear and incompetent management of terrorism and banditry in Northern Nigeria and beyond, in collaboration with a certain senator, also from the North, then it is high time it carried out an in-depth evaluation and review of its actions.”

Managing Director of Kaduna State Media Corporation, Ben Kure, has accused former governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, of failing to treat the people of Southern Kaduna with fairness.

Kure, who previously served as a media aide to El-Rufai, made the allegation on Monday while responding to questions during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.

“What he’s saying is nothing but the peddling of falsehood. Now, let me say something very clear and categorical. Having served and being the director general of his campaign, he (El-Rufai) did not even find us worthy to respect us and then treat our people with fairness.

“I fought my elders to a standstill to ensure that we brought Malam Nasir El-Rufai to government, and all he had to do was to exclude us and then treat the Southern Kaduna people like lepers.

“That was the kind of thing he needed. So he joined the heads of Kaduna State and sharply divided Kaduna State.”

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has tackled ex-Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his silence regarding the conviction of self-acclaimed Biafra Prime Minister, Simon Ekpa.

Omokri challenged Obi to react to the conviction of Ekpa by a Finnish court.

Posting on X, he berated the former presidential candidate for his quick reaction to the incident involving Fuji singer, K1 De Ultimate and ValueJet.

He wrote: “If Peter Obi is bold enough to talk about Simon Ekpa’s conviction today (not tomorrow), the way he QUICKLY spoke about the incident involving K1 De Ultimate, AKA King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, whose arrests and prosecution he called for, I will give everything I am wearing here to one random follower. Tick tock. The clock is ticking.”

On Monday, a Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland sentenced Ekpa to six years’ imprisonment for terrorism offences.

Finnish authorities had, on November 21, 2024, arrested Ekpa following an investigation by its National Bureau of Investigation into allegations of inciting terrorism and promoting violence through social media, activity believed to have contributed to unrest in southeastern Nigeria.

Prior to his arrest and sentence, Ekpa was linked to terrorist activities in southeast Nigeria.
