The Lagos State Government has announced that the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, inward Island, will begin on Wednesday, September 3.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, assuring motorists that a comprehensive traffic management plan has been adopted to ease movement and reduce congestion during the repairs.
According to him, lessons from the earlier phase of the project prompted a thorough review of diversion strategies to ensure that the current phase is executed with minimal disruption and completed within the shortest possible time.
Providing details of the new traffic advisory, Osiyemi said vehicles coming from the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Lagos Toll Gate heading toward Oshodi or Victoria Island will experience smooth flow along most parts of the route.
However, around the construction zone on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, traffic will be diverted into one lane of the three-lane carriageway approximately 50 metres before the site and returned to full access 50 metres after.
He advised motorists heading to Oshodi to use the Ojota Slip Road to connect Ikorodu Road, inward Anthony (by Taxi Park), and continue their journey to Oshodi.
For those travelling to Victoria Island, Osiyemi recommended two alternatives: using the Ojota Slip Road through Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony by Town Planning Way), then proceeding via Gbagada to the Third Mainland Bridge, or continuing on Ikorodu Road toward Funsho Williams Avenue to connect Eko Bridge.
”Motorists coming from Ikeja and adjoining areas en route to Oshodi or Victoria Island are advised to connect Maryland to link Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue before proceeding through Eko Bridge to Outer Marina. They may also access Ikorodu Road via Anthony (by Taxi Park) to reach Oshodi directly,” he said.
The Commissioner emphasised that the reviewed plan was developed to improve coordination along the corridor and urged road users to cooperate with traffic officers, maintain lane discipline, and take advantage of the designated alternative routes.

The Benue State Government has placed an immediate ban on graduation parties for pupils in kindergarten, nursery, and primary schools across the state.
Mrs Helen Nambativ, the Acting Commissioner of the Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management, disclosed this on Tuesday in Makurdi while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.
She warned that any school that disregards the directive risks sanctions, including temporary closure.
According to her, the state government has introduced the measure as part of a new education policy designed to bring discipline and sanity to the basic education sector.
She stressed that the directive, which took effect immediately, was meant to reduce unnecessary expenses on parents and re-focus schools on academic excellence rather than social events.
Nambativ, who also serves as the ministry’s permanent secretary, added that schools which flout the policy in the upcoming 2025/2026 academic session might lose their license to operate. She further revealed that a task force will be set up to ensure compliance.
NAN recalls that a memo issued on August 21 by the ministry had already communicated the government’s decision to schools.
The memo explained that the policy was aimed at easing financial pressure on parents while redirecting resources towards meaningful learning outcomes.
It stated: “The unpopular use of restricted, customised education materials, such as text/exercise books in Benue State schools, making them non-transferrable to subsequent learners, is hereby abolished.
“All schools are by this notice directed to revert automatically to the traditional practice of senior students/pupils using and passing books down to pupils and students in lower classes.
“Compulsory and extended lessons after regular school hours cease, except where parental rights are sought and granted.
“All compulsory school graduation ceremonies in Benue State are hereby abolished, especially for kindergarten, nursery and basic schools.”
Meanwhile, a school proprietor in Makurdi, who preferred anonymity, faulted the timing of the policy. He argued that schools should have been given at least a year to phase out already purchased books and properly adjust to the new directive.
On the other hand, Mr James Bemgba, a parent, welcomed the move. He applauded the government for relieving parents of what he described as an unnecessary financial load.
According to him, “most schools force parents to pay for the graduation of kids who are less than three years old and also buy books unnecessarily.”

The Nigerian government has begun payment to contractors of projects domiciled with federal government ministries, departments and agencies amid outcry.
The spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the federation, Bawa Mokwa, disclosed this to DAILY POST exclusively in an interview on Monday.
This comes after more than a year of non-payment to contractors handling federal government projects in MDAs.
In June 2025, Bauchi Senatorial District Senator, Abdul Ahmed Ningi raised an alarm over non-payment to federal government contractors since 2024.
More recently, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation, Obi Aguocha, had called on the Nigerian government to look into payments accrued to its contractors since last year.
When DAILY POST called the OAGF to get an update on the matter, Mokwa said the federal government and the affected contractors have reached a resolution.
He hinted that payment to federal government contractors has begun.
Mokwa said the development followed a meeting between the federal government and contractors on Wednesday, last week.
“We had a meeting with the contractors on Wednesday; resolutions were arrived at.
“Payment to contractors has begun; it will be continued,” he told DAILY POST.

Allegation Of Ransom Payment Against NSA Baseless, Says Northern Group
The Northern Alternative Forum (NAF), a Northern interest group, has strongly condemned allegations that the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), led by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, is coordinating payment of ransom and negotiating with bandits.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Mallam Gidado Ibrahim, the Forum called on relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Directorate of State Services (DSS) to conduct an investigation into the allegation, saying those making such claims must show proof of the allegation.
The group warned against any smear campaign against President Bola Tinubu and the NSA, noting that it has become a recurring pattern for the opposition to resort to baseless accusations against any government in power that is doing all it can to turn around the country’s economic fortunes.
“These claims are not only preposterous, lousy and unfounded but also part of a pattern of behaviour aimed at undermining the current administration. Now that the nation’s economy is recovering following ongoing reforms by the Renewed Hope administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the opposition appears threatened because of the selfish political interests ahead of the 2027 polls,” the statement noted.
Ibrahim urged Nigerians to ignore the tantrums of some opposition leaders and focus on the government’s progress in addressing security challenges and promoting national development.
“The NSA, under Ribadu’s leadership, has achieved significant successes in protecting the nation, and his efforts deserve recognition and support,” he stated, insisting that: “The campaign of calumny against the Tinubu administration are driven by a desire to create confusion and undermine the government.”
The Forum continued: “We must dismiss baseless claims and focus on the progress being made towards a better future for all. These unfounded allegations are a clear attempt to distract Nigerians from the government’s achievements and create unnecessary tension.
“But coming from those who were in the corridors of power, either as ministers, governors of heads of agencies, smacks of Bureauphobia (morbid fear of the government) and desperate attempts by opposition elements in the country to return to power and continue another round of looting.”
It further described the allegations against the NSA and the Tinubu-led government as a way of getting back at the administration, and fallout of the inability of some of its members “to measure up with the integrity test of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration”.
Ibrahim said some of the opposition leaders had been in the corridors of power since the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1999, and despite having opportunities to contribute positively to Nigeria’s development, their actions have been marred by primordial sentiments and poor decision-making.
“Some of these so-called opposition leaders had the opportunity to set Nigeria’s industrialisation drive on proper footings by bringing in competent investors. Instead, they allowed primordial sentiments to becloud their sense of judgment. The sugar and the textile industries were the worst hit in their perverted misguided choices.
“These are politicians who sold Nigerian’s sugar industry. Now, a cup of sugar cannot be guaranteed at an affordable price. Funds were allocated to revamp the textile, cement, and power sectors, including NITEL, but no one can account for the said funds. Instead of the noise, they should have gone to their wards to see how President Tinubu is giving Nigerians a listening ear to move our country’s economy forward. The opposition should show us even one person they have impacted positively, including their paid attack dogs. None,” he stated.
The Forum concluded that some opposition members are morally defeated, adding however that their manipulative antics will not fool Nigerians.
“Men are not idiots. Nigerians know these manipulative antics. We will not fall for it this time around,” Ibrahim stated, quoting the late legendary reggae musician, Bob Marley, who said :you can fool some people sometime, but you can’t fool all the people all the time’.”
“We urge Nigerians to support the government’s efforts to build a safer and more prosperous nation. These allegations are a clear attempt to distract from the government’s achievements and create unnecessary tension.
“Nigerians must dismiss baseless claims and focus on the progress being made towards a better future for all. The Northern Alternative Forum stands in solidarity with the NSA, Mallam Ribadu, and urges Nigerians to support the government’s efforts to build a safer and more prosperous nation,” Ibrahim added.
