Zamfara Gov to speak at 5th AfSNET Investment Conference in Algeria

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, is scheduled to speak at the fifth African Sub-Sovereign Governments Network (AfSNET) investment conference.
The Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025) will be held from September 4th to 10th, 2025, at the Algerian Company of Fairs and Exhibitions Centre (SAFEX) in Algiers, Algeria, under the theme “Gateway to New Opportunities.”
A statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, noted that Lawal the investment conference will take place on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025).
“The Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025) will be hosted by the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and convened by Afreximbank in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat.
“The Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025) will provide a unique and valuable platform for businesses to access a single African market of over 1.4 billion people with a GDP of over US$3.5 trillion created under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
“This year’s theme, ‘Local Power, Global Impact: Strengthening Africa’s Sub-Sovereign Governments for Sustainable Development’, underscores our collective commitment to leveraging local governance for transformative continental outcomes.
“Building on the success of the fourth AfSNET Conference held in Kisumu, Kenya, which gathered more than 45 governors, Mayors, local government leaders, investors and development partners from across Africa, the AfSNET conference emphasizes the strategic importance of sub-sovereign entities in promoting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“The conference featured high-level dialogues, investment pitching sessions, and targeted B2B and B2G engagements, enabling sub-national actors to present development-ready projects and explore financing opportunities.
“With a strong emphasis on inclusive growth, decentralised cooperation and regional integration, the Kisumu conference served as a powerful platform for mobilising resources, strengthening partnerships, and charting actionable pathways for local governments to drive Africa’s trade and development agenda from the ground up.”
“Governor Lawal was invited to speak on a high-level panel discussion titled “Investment Showcase: Unveiling Opportunities from select African and Caribbean Sub-sovereigns” in recognition of his expertise and leadership.”

Tinubu Reverses Appointment in NTA, Reinstates DG, Executive Director of News

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday directed the reinstatement of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Mr Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, who briefly vacated the post following some management changes in the agency.
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga said Dembos, who was appointed DG of the TV network by President Tinubu in October 2023, will now return to complete his three-year tenure.
The President similarly directed the recall of the Executive Director of News, Mr Ayo Adewuyi to complete his three-year tenure, which ends in 2027.
Adewuyi was appointed by President Tinubu in 2024.
The new directive effectively reversed the previously announced appointments of Rtimi Pedro as director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.

Adeola’s Governorship Ambition and His Transformative Vision for Ogun

It’s no longer a hidden fact that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (aka Yayi) is desirous of succeeding the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to lead Ogun State to the next level of development. He has not officially declared his intention though, overtly or covertly, his body language speaks clearly about his ambition to govern the state. He is one of the prominent figures whose name resonates with the people. Inspired by his transformative agenda, Senator Adeola is poised to slug it out with other prospective aspirants involved in the race for the 2027 governorship election.
Based on his public statements, track record, and political vision, his primary concern is to transform the socio-economic life of the citizenry.
As a dependable ally of the Governor, Adeola’s political platform is anchored on the idea that Ogun State’s vast potential has not been fully realised. So, his vision is not just to manage the state but to fundamentally transform it. He has consistently articulated a plan that prioritises economic development and social welfare, which directly aligns with the focus of the current administration of Governor Abiodun.
As a two-term senator representing Lagos West before moving to Ogun West, Yayi’s political brand is built on delivering development and empowerment through various initiatives. In terms of infrastructure, he has been credited with facilitating numerous road constructions, classroom buildings, and the establishment of ICT centres in his senatorial districts. These projects are considered as foundational to socio-economic growth.
This is in addition to his Mega Empowerment Programme, which provided startup grants, tools, and agricultural support to thousands of constituents, forming a key part of his appeal. The initiative demonstrates a focus on poverty alleviation and job creation.
Due to the combined advantages of his political clout, his extensive experience as a legislator as well as his influence within the ruling party (APC), a lot of people see him as an ideal candidate to attract investments and drive development. They believe that his network and political relationships in Abuja will be crucial for the state’s progress. This is particularly bearing in mind that his political platform is built on the promise of a result-driven leadership aimed at improving the living standards and economic opportunities of the people of Ogun State.
As the nation gradually prepares for another fresh cycle of elections in 2027, the connection between Adeola’s governorship ambition and Ogun’s next level has become a central and highly debated topic in the state’s politics. For his Ogun West constituents, where the agitation for a governor from their district is strongest, Yayi’s ambition represents the true next level for the state. The stakeholders, in that part of the state, consider his governorship as a transformative opportunity to replicate the financial and infrastructural successes of Lagos State, where he built his political career.
A key part of his supporters’ argument is his background as a Chartered Accountant and his legislative work that helped to significantly boost Lagos’s internally generated revenue (IGR). They believe that this financial dexterity is what Ogun State needs to unlock its full economic potential.
Often dubbed “Mr. Project” due to his constituency projects in Ogun West, which include schools, health centers, and empowerment programmes, Senator Yayi enjoys the goodwill of the populace, including those who argues that his governorship would bring a new wave of development to the entire state, moving it beyond its current pace.
They see him as a leader with a broader vision that transcends local politics. They believe his experience in the federal legislature will enable him to attract federal projects and bring a new level of governance to the state, making him a state builder who can take Ogun to its next level. For many, therefore, Adeola represents a strategic and necessary leap forward, a next level defined by financial discipline and infrastructural development.
For the marginalized Yewa/Awori people, Yayi’s ambition to contest for the Ogun State governorship in 2027 represents a call for politics of fairness, equity and justice. His candidacy is seen as a symbol of inclusive governance, aiming to bridge the long-standing regional representation imbalance in the state.
This narrative centres around correcting the political imbalance that has seen Ogun Central and Ogun East produce governors since the state’s creation on February 3, 1976, while Ogun West, despite significant economic contributions, has been left out.
In recent times, the long-standing political marginalization of the Yewa/Awori people has become a troubling concern for every well-meaning individual in the state. It has led to a deep-seated feeling of historical and political injustice, as well as a perceived lack of development and infrastructure in the region. The Yewa/Awori people believe they have been consistently sidelined in the state’s power-sharing arrangements. Therefore, Adeola’s candidacy is seen by many as a vehicle for the Yewa/Awori people to finally achieve their long-deferred dream of producing a governor. Having been shut out of the governorship for well over 49 years, their argument in support of the agitation to lead the state is based on the principles of fairness and rotational power-sharing. For this reason, stakeholders in Ogun West, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, community groups, students, traders, artisans, and political leaders, have vehemently lent their voices to Adeola’s bid which is not just about personal ambition but about correcting a historical imbalance and giving the Yewa/Awori people a sense of belonging and inclusion in the state’s leadership.
To this extent, Yayi’s ambition aims to break the 49-year-old jinx of Ogun West, not producing a governor, promoting equity and justice in representation.
Beyond that, a lot of people believe that his leadership would foster unity and inclusiveness across the three senatorial zones, promoting sustainable growth and development.
This optimism derives from his approach which prioritizes the needs of the people, demonstrating a commitment to responsive and responsible governance. His track record of delivering projects and empowerment programmes directly to the people has earned him widespread support across the state, particularly in Ogun West.
In essence, Adeola’s transformative agenda focuses on bringing government closer to the grassroots and improving the quality of life for the generality of the people of Ogun State.
The key areas of his focus include
infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic and industrial growth. This objective aligns with the policy of direction of the Abiodun administration, including road construction, human capital development, accessible healthcare delivery, job creation, women and youth empowerment, among others.
Above all, Adeola’s commitment to enhancing access to these basic amenities aims to complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. By focusing on his transformative agenda, he intends to prioritize the needs of the people, promoting sustainable development as well as overall improvement in people’s standard of living across every section of Ogun State.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has lauded the movement initiated by the Ndi Nasu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation to fight pervasive ‘identity crisis’, which has often led to divisive tendency among the indigenous people of Igbo ethnic nationality particularly I’m Nigeria, urging other socio-cultural groups to emulate the unifying initiative.

Declaring open a two-day conference organized by the Igbo Unification Movement in collaboration with Ndi Nasu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation, the governor described the gesture as worthy of emulation, encouraging others to buy into the renaissance idea for strengthening Igbo harmonious identity.

Oborevwori, who was represented by Hon Johnson Erijo, Chief of Staff Government House, however, expressed dismay at the conspicuous absence of Igbo leaders and people from 13 states in the country, who were expected at the gathering.

He noted that the group’s initiative was an eye-opener because it afforded many the opportunity to have insightful messages on Igbo language, beliefs, cultural practices and history.

“We never knew 13 states speak Igbo in this country until now; thus this movement is a worthy gesture”, he observed.

Nevertheless, he stated that the Delta State Government runs an all-inclusuve system devoid of sectionalism or marginalizing any section of the state on grounds of ethnic or cultural differences.

Similarly, Senator Ned Nwoko, the senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said that tackling the Igbo ‘identity crisis’ was a noble cause that every Igbo should encourage and support.

Senator Nwoko expressed hope that other groups in Delta State would see reason to emulate the Ndi Nasu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation, adding that it remains a poser to him the Igbo speaking people in the country are always separted.

He underscored the fact that his belief his persistent push for the creation Anioma State was prompted by his unwavering belief in the unity of all Igbo people, urging the people to support the initiative not minding whether the new state was in the South-South or South-East geopolitical zone.

The Chairman, Local Organzing Committee (LOC) and patron of Ndi Nasu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation, Chief Comas Agada, described the group as a pro-Igbo nationalism organisation duly incorporated in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) five years ago.

Nonetheless, the group’s membership is drawn from all Igbo subgroups and communities across the three geopolitcal zones of North-Central, South-East and South-South, and spread also across Diaspora Igbo Comnunities in America, Asia, Europe, the Caribean etc.

Agada said, “Inspired by the Igbo philosophy of ‘Onye aghala nwanne ya’, we identify indigeneous Igbo communites engaging the elders and youths with the objective of helping them to resolve their identity crisis, thereby helping them to fully realize their true Igbo identity. In some cases, we carry out minor infrastructural projects in the communities.

“We aim to to build Igbo philosophy of Igwebuike, as we believe the socio-cultural, economic and political advancement of Nd’igbo lies critically in our unity irrespective of our unity dialectical variations. Ndigbo are one people.”

Earlier in his welcome address, Kingsley Kainebi, President, Ndi Na Asu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation, appreciated the organizing committee for the colourful event that featured cultural dances and exhibition of books on Igbo history, culture, people and leaders.

“As we engage in todays discussion, I urge us to take to heart key recommendations of this conference in order to achieve its set of goal – that Igbo people should stand together as one united ethnic group speaking with one voice”, he counseled.

The event also featured presentations in English and Igbo languages by notable scholars, including the Keynote Speaker, Prof T. Uzodinma Nwala, who is Nogeria’s first graduate of Philosophy, and Prof Igwe Obasi as well as the unveiling of Ndi Nasu Bia Organisation.

Oborevwori Inaugurates ICT/CBT Centre in Onicha-Olona, Says No Part of Delta Will Be Left Behind

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, at the weekend, inaugurated an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre at Onicha-Olona in Aniocha North Local Government Area, assuring that no part of Delta State will be left behind in his administration’s drive for digital transformation and valuable empowerment especially of youths.

He described the Centre, which has 300 functional work-stations and 300 computers as a remarkable milestone in bridging the digital gap and preparing our youths for competing effectively for opportunities in the 21st Century digital economy within the Global Village space.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Kingsley Emu, the Governor expressed appreciation for the valuable contributions of individuals, government agencies and corporate bodies towards the establishment of the ICTand CBT Centre, including the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), which undertook the construction of the edifice as part of its corporate social responsibility in Delta State.

Situated in the heart the heart of Onicha-Olona town, the Centre, which was built by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), has been fully furnished and equipped with state-of-the-art computers and other ICT tools and accessories by the government through the State Ministry of Science and Technology, to ensure it became a fully functional hub for contemporary digital learning.

The governor stressed that in the government’s quest to equitably develop the state, in the spirit of the M.O.R.E Agenda, its commitment to the practice of inclusiveness will ensure that no community in the state was left out.

The governor said, “Today’s event is remarkable as it brings a modern communication and learning hub right to the heart of our community. With the establishment of this ICT and CBT Centre in Onicha-Olona, our young people no longer need to look far for such facilities.

“More than just infrastructure, this state-of-the-art centre represents a bold step in our commitment to bridge the digital divide, empower our people, and prepare Deltans with the skills and opportunities to excel in the 21st Century.

“This facility is a bridge to the future; that is, the global digital economy. No one should be left behind. Indeed, we are creating a state where no one is left behind. We will ensure that no community in Delta is left behind.”

Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to Mrs Diana Okonta, former NDIC Board member, for her persistent advocacy to ensure that the dream of a truly functional digital centre in the town became a reality.

Oborevwori also acknowledged the contribution of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who gave the initial approval for the takeoff of the first phase of the project.

Delta youths would continue to have access to platforms that promote digital literacy, job creation, and self-reliance under the M.O.R.E development blueprint, he stressed, urging the people of Onicha-Olona, the neighboring communities and beyond to take full advantage of the vast opportunities being offered by the ICT and CBT Centre.

The Delta State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Daniel O. Odigie, noted that the Centre would boost the employment creation efforts of the state government as it is opening a window on the global digital economy by equipping the citizens in the state with the requisite knowledge and skills.

The commissioner, who pointed out that digital knowledge and orientation was noonger optional but a necessity, described the Onicha-Olona ICT and CBT Centre as “a citadel for learning and innovation in coding, app development, data analytics, artificial intelligence and basic computer literacy”.

The new Centre was specifically “designed to nurture talent, spark creativity, and unlock boundless potential”, Dr Odigie explained.

Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Hon Chinye Bazim, commended Governor Oborevwori for establishing the Centre as well as several other projects in the area, which will go a long way in promoting education, youth empowerment and job creation.

He noted that the Oborevwori administration had executed, and was executing, other projects in Anichoa North, including the Issele-Uku–Otulu Road that was nearing completion, the Onicha-Ugbo township roads and the College of Nursing Science at Onicha-Uku, beside providing logistics support for security in the area.

In his remarks, the President-General of the Onicha-Olona Development Union, Sir Patrick Ejido, highlighted the features of the Centre, saying the facility would greatly enhance learning and employability of its users.

While thanking the NDIC, community leaders and other stakeholders for their different roles toward the actualisation of the project, Ejido assured that the host community would ensure that facility is protected and efficiently managed on a sustainable basis.

The Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Emeka Nwaobi, described the centre as a gateway to effective education, innovation and economic growth for not only Onicha-Olona but Delta State at large.

Senior government functionaries including the Head of Service, Dr Mimmie Oseji, several commissioners, traditional leaders from Onicha-Olona and neighboring communities, women and youth groups attended the event spiced with cultural dances.
