The Dangote Group has dismissed claims that its trucks were involved in two fatal traffic accidents that occurred on Wednesday in Enugu State.

In a statement released Thursday by a spokesperson for the Dangote Group, Anthony Chijiena, the firm clarified that the trucks involved in the two separate crashes did not belong to the company and were not operated by any of its subsidiaries.

Dangote Group’s position corroborates a statement released by the Enugu State Police Command on the accidents.

The police command confirmed that the vehicles were owned by two logistics firms, Visco Investment Global and Global Investment, with ten persons dead.

Reacting, Dangote stated, “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the victims of these tragic incidents and their families.”

The company also expressed concern over the “increasing spread of misinformation falsely attributing such incidents to the Dangote Group without substantiated evidence.”

It further urged both the public and media outlets to verify claims before dissemination and emphasised its commitment to road safety.

Dangote Group noted that it has “repeatedly cautioned truckers to desist from using its logo on their vehicles.”

The firm vowed to implement stricter monitoring and pursue legal action against those who use its brand identity without authorisation.

In a post on his official X handle late on Wednesday, Obi said instead of easing hardship, the government has imposed more burden on Nigerians.

The former Anambra State governor stated that the 5% fuel tax should have waited until Nigerians begin to see tangible improvements in their lives from all the many promises from President Bola Tinubu.

“Nigerians will pay a 5% tax when buying their everyday fuel or diesel at a time when millions can hardly even afford the cost of transportation.

Mr. President just yesterday boasted that Nigeria has met its revenue target for the year. Yet instead of easing hardship, the government imposes more burden on Nigerians.

Even the so-called alternative, CNG, has become unaffordable, rising from about N230 to N450, while the promised subsidies on the CNG have quietly vanished.

If our revenues are truly ‘excessive’ as claimed, should they not first be used to fund education, healthcare, and pulling Nigerians out of poverty? Why tax citizens who cannot even breathe anymore?” he asked.

According to him, leadership is not about giving a burden but reducing suffering, and about care and compassion.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has said insecurity in the state would be history within two months if given total control of the security agencies.

This is as he even claimed to know the location of a bandits’ leader, saying with his mobile phone he could show where the bandits are.

In a viral video clip, the governor lamented that he could not do anything beyond his power as the state governor.

Governor Lawal said most times he weeps for his people because he could see a problem but, since he does not have control over the security agencies, he could not order the security operatives to act in time.

He gave an instance where bandits invaded Shinkafi Local Government and security operatives could not go when alerted because they were not given orders from Abuja.

“I swear to Almighty Allah, wherever a bandits’ leader is located within Zamfara State, I know it, and if he goes out, I know. With my mobile phone, I can show you where and where these bandits are today. But we cannot do anything beyond our powers.

“If today, I have the power to give orders to the security agencies, I can assure you, we will end banditry in Zamfara State within two months.

NYCN labelled the state police as a “misplaced priority” and a “waste of time” for the federal government.

A statement issued by the National President of NYCN, Isah Abubakar, said, “The organization believes this initiative will duplicate existing agencies and fail to address the fundamental issues plaguing Nigeria’s security architecture.”

According to the NYCN, the current security agencies are already grappling with severe challenges such as chronic underfunding, manpower shortages, insufficient equipment, poor welfare for personnel, and widespread allegations of corruption.

The Council argued that creating new agencies would only compound the problems rather than solve them, saying that it will be more effective to recruit and train individuals from their respective states to serve in the existing Nigeria Police Force so that they receive adequate welfare and allowances.

The NYCN expressed deep concern that state police forces would inevitably fall under the control of politicians, leading to the abuse and violation of citizens’ fundamental human rights.

They also argued that Nigerian politicians are not yet mature enough to handle a security system independent of federal oversight without misusing its authority and called on the federal government to immediately establish a committee to implement a total overhaul and expansion of the Nigeria Police Force.

The NYCN asserts that a nation with over 200 million people requires a police force of at least 5 million, a stark contrast to the current force of less than 300,000.
