Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, has dismissed suggestions of a return to the Presidential Villa.

Mrs Jonathan said she cannot return to the seat of power because of the distress facing Nigeria.

The Guardian quoted the former First Lady as saying that she needs peace, and therefore cannot return to the Villa.

She said: “The distress of Nigeria is so much that if God manages to bring you out of it, you should glorify Him.

“Why do you want to go back there? I need peace. My peace is enough.”

Her remarks come as pressure mounts on former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Meanwhile, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga recently cautioned Jonathan against listening to those urging him to run, recalling his 2015 election defeat.

Speculation is rife that Jonathan may contest under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2027.

Amidst these speculations, the former president has yet to declare whether he will run or not.

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that he would have resigned if he had been appointed a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

El-Rufai made the assertion in an interview with Channels TV on Sunday.

According to him, serving as a minister under President Tinubu was never his ambition, stating that Tinubu had begged him to join the cabinet but “later changed his mind.”

“I would have probably resigned if I was a minister in Tinubu’s government.

“I have no desire to be a minister. I don’t care what people are saying now. I have been a minister when I was much younger,” he said.

El-Rufai was nominated as Minister of Power but reportedly failed to pass security screening.

The former governor also asserted that the country’s power sector would have been significantly transformed if he had been appointed Minister of Power.

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on Sunday said no one can abridge his right of association in the state.

This followed the pandemonium that occurred on Saturday during the inauguration of a transition committee formed by opposition parties in Kaduna State.

Thugs who disrupted the inauguration attacked participants and vandalised property.

Armed with cutlasses, clubs and stones, the thugs were said to have injured several people and destroyed vehicles.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, El-Rufai said: “No one can abridge my right of association, no one can ask me to give any notice, I can give if I choose.

“It’s not legal and not a constitutional requirement, so people should stop overreaching themselves just because they have a position today.

“I was governor of that state for eight years, never at any time did I stop any opposition party from having meetings or say that venues should not allow meetings to take place, it’s an overreach.”

El-Rufai further stated: “The government of Kaduna State is behind it and I will submit my evidence to the police service commission and the Inspector General of Police if they care to take action.”

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has accused his successor, Uba Sani, of orchestrating the attack on him and other opposition figures in the state.

DAILY POST reports that chaos erupted at the official inauguration of a transition committee jointly set up by opposition parties in Kaduna State on Saturday, with suspected political thugs invading the event.

El-Rufai and other participants were attacked and properties vandalized.

Addressing the matter while appearing on Channels TV on Sunday, El-Rufai claimed there is evidence that the state governor orchestrated the attack.

He said, “I have evidence; Kaduna State Governor is behind Saturday’s attacks. I will submit evidence to the IGP and other authorities if they care to investigate.”

He further lamented that “the policing system has collapsed in Nigeria,” alleging that police operatives were watching when the opposition figures came under attack.
