Oluremi Tinubu said the intervention aligns with the mission of RHI to restore hope and livelihoods for vulnerable families.
“On behalf of the governing council of the Renewed Hope Initiative, we are making a donation of ₦1 billion to support displaced families to regain stability, return to their sources of livelihood, and build better lives,” she stated.

The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shettima Mohammed, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has presented over N24 million to families of police officers who either paid the ultimate price or sustained injuries in the line of duty.
The sum of 24,321,077.31 funds, disbursed under the IGP’s Family Welfare Scheme, Group Life Assurance, and Group Personal Accident Scheme, represents a continued effort by the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that no officer’s sacrifice goes unrecognized or unsupported.
Representing CP Shettima at the presentation, DCP Richard Bala Gara, Deputy Commissioner in charge of Finance and Administration, conveyed the command’s deepest sympathies and reiterated the Inspector-General’s commitment to the welfare of all police personnel and their families.
According to the statement released to journalists in Lafia by SP. Ramhan Nansel, CP Shettima, in a message delivered during the event, stressed the importance of using the support wisely.
“This is not just a cheque, it’s a message of remembrance and appreciation. Let it serve as a foundation for something meaningful, a legacy that honors the memory of our fallen heroes,” the CP was quoted in the statement.
The CP went further to advise the recipients to view the gesture not merely as compensation, but as a stepping stone to rebuild and secure a stable future.
“I urge you all to invest wisely. Let this support yield lasting impact, not just for today, but for generations to come,” Shettima added.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Dauda Asalaka expressed profound gratitude to the police hierarchy, particularly the IGP and CP Shettima, describing the financial assistance as timely and impactful.
“We are deeply grateful. This support means a lot, and we assure you that it will be put to good use in securing the future of our families,” he said.

A former National Vice-Chairman, North-west of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one of the arrow heads of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mallam Salihu Lukman, has warned the leadership of the party against god-fatherism and imposition among the leaders at all levels ahead of the 2027 elections.
Lukman, in a statement Tuesday titled: ‘ADC and the Prospect of Internal Democracy’ cautioned the leaders of the party that Nigerians would not be deceived by any cosmetic design of presenting another party, which is only a duplicate of their old parties.
He expressed fears that with the way things are going, coalition leaders would emerge as godfathers, and subsequently impose their surrogates at all levels as leaders of the ADC.
Lukman pointed out that when the national leadership positions of ADC were shared to zones, coalition leaders, who were only nominees into the committee that negotiated the sharing arrangement, promoted themselves into becoming the leaders of their zones.
He noted: “The struggle to ensure that loyalists of leaders emerged as the leaders of the reformed ADC to some extent disregard the consideration for intellectual capacity, integrity, performance track records, name recognition across all demographics, respect in community and political circles, independent mindedness and general acceptability to all or majority of stakeholders, which we agreed to.
“We must caution our leaders, Nigerians will not be deceived by any cosmetic design of presenting another party, which is only a duplicated our old parties.
“With the way things are going, coalition leaders will emerge as godfathers, and the next thing is that they will impose their surrogates at all levels as leaders of the ADC.”
While acknowledging Senator David Mark’s leadership, which enabled the party to seal the agreement that produced the result of the emergence of new leadership of ADC, Lukman said: “The truth is that the negative side of almost all our opposition political leaders is already at play. Many are taking steps to manipulate the process of leadership reformation of the ADC. Loyalists are being promoted in a manner that suggest perhaps the 2027 elections is already won.
“This will naturally be followed by anointing preferred candidates for 2027 elections. Therefore, the first test of Senator Mark’s leadership of the party is the extent to which he can mitigate all these and ensure that ADC is not a party that will be controlled by godfathers.”
Lukman emphasised that Nigerians anxiously await initiatives of the Mark leadership as the issue of the direction the party intends to take towards addressing the challenges facing the country.
He was of the opinion that the Mark’s leadership is beyond producing candidates and winning the 2027 elections.
Lukman noted: “For those of us who spearheaded the process of negotiating the coalition and producing ADC as the party for the envisioned internally democratic party, whether we are part of the national leadership or not, we must remain united within the coalition to continue to engage the leadership of Senator Mark to ensure they succeed.
“If, for any reason, we allow them to fail, we have equally failed. The prospect of succeeding is much stronger. However, it all depends on the extent to which we are ready to continue to make the sacrifices required.”

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Bauchi Branch, has advised newly inducted lawyers not to rely too much on Artificial Intelligence, AI, in their work.
The warning came during a training programme held on Tuesday to help young lawyers understand the legal profession and uphold ethical standards.
Bauchi NBA Chairman, Rabiu Garba, said the orientation was aimed at helping the “new wigs” build successful careers.
They were trained on professional conduct, proper courtroom behavior, dressing, client relationships, and the importance of upholding the rule of law.
“We want our lawyers to grow without depending on AI,” he said. “Even advanced countries are discouraging its use in law because it’s not always reliable.”Garba said.
Former Branch Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Danjuma, urged the new lawyers to constantly improve their skills, especially with the rise of digital tools and online legal services. He noted that well-trained lawyers improve the justice system.
In his remark, Justice Muhyiddeen Mohammed, Khadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal, encouraged the lawyers to value time, respect their seniors, and aim for excellence.
“Don’t remain poor; strive for greatness. Get more education, even up to master’s and PhDs,” he advised.

Activist, Aisha Yesufu has taken a swipe at the Nigerian judiciary, alleging that it has betrayed both the constitution and the citizens it is meant to serve.
Yesufu made this allegation on Arise News while responding to recent controversies surrounding court rulings and the ongoing case of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is seeking to resume at the National Assembly.
The Edo-born human rights campaigner said the judiciary has become a plaything of corrupt politicians and no longer offers protection to the common man.
“Our Nigerian judiciary, they should wake up. They’ve failed the system, they’ve failed the country, they’ve failed even the oath that they swore,” she said.
She added that the judicial arm of government; once considered the last hope of the common man, has instead become increasingly compromised, frequently disregarded by institutions and openly manipulated by the political class.
The political activist pointed to examples where injunctions issued by the courts, such as those related to the suspension of certain legislators, have been flagrantly ignored by the National Assembly.
“They didn’t listen, they didn’t bother. We’ve had a situation whereby a lot of institutions decide what rulings of the courts they’re going to obey. And that’s a problem.
“Politicians are the ones dictating a lot of things for our judiciary,” she added.
She therefore called on the judiciary to sit up and begin an internal reformation process, one that restores credibility, independence, and justice.

The Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO) has called on judicial officers in the country to refrain from being used as tools of oppression.
The group equally urged judicial officers to refuse to be pawns in political games aimed at weakening the democratic institutions.
National President of NYO, Comrade Okorie C. Okorie, made the call in a statement made available to DAILY POST.
Okorie stated that instead to becoming a wedge in the wheel of progress, the judiciary should champion the sustainability of democracy in Nigeria.
Parts of the statement read, “Today, the Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO) speaks not with soft words but with unshaken resolve and piercing clarity on the role of judiciary in Nigeria’s democracy. Our democracy stands at a crossroad threatened not just by visible enemies but by the insidious corruption and complicity within its very institutions.
“The judiciary being the bedrock of democratic governance must never be complicit in the deterioration of the democratic fabric. The judiciary must not allow itself to be weaponized as an instrument to silence the opposition being the lifeblood of any true democracy.
“The opposition is the voice of the voiceless, the check upon power, and the catalyst for accountability. Any attempt to use the courts to suppress dissent or subdue the cries of ordinary Nigerians is a direct assault on democracy itself.
”’In the light of the above we demand that the judiciary should reject being a tool of oppression; judges and judicial officers should categorically refuse to be pawns in political games aimed at weakening democratic institutions.
“We demand that the judiciary should champion impartial justice without fear or favor; the judiciary’s independence is sacrosanct. Any compromise should be met with national outrage and decisive disciplinary action.
“To the legal profession, we warn that lawyers must exercise the utmost integrity. Lawyers who willfully mislead courts, manipulate legal processes, or exploit the judicial system to thwart democracy are enemies of our collective future.
“We call on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to: Take a firm stance by sanctioning any member who deliberately mislead courts, especially in matters with grave implications for the prosperity and sustainability of democracy.
“Embark on a rigorous ethical reform to restore the dignity of the legal profession and align it unmistakably with democratic ideals. To the National Judicial Council (NJC), the body charged with maintaining judicial discipline, we insist that it must rise to the occasion without hesitation.
“Swiftly and transparently discipline judges and judicial officers who engage in any conduct that threatens democracy or damages the state’s trust in the judicial process. Establish mechanisms to hold the judiciary accountable, ensuring that no erring official remains above consequences.
“This is not negotiable. The future of Nigeria’s democracy depends on an unyielding commitment to justice, transparency, and accountability at every level of the justice delivery chain.
“The Nigeria Youth Organisation NYO stands ready to hold all judicial actors accountable. We will not hesitate to call out, protest against and expose anyone undermining democratic governance no matter how highly placed the person may be.
“Democracy is not for the timid. It demands courage — from judges, lawyers, regulatory bodies, and citizens alike. We demand nothing less than an uncorrupted, fearless, and vibrant judiciary that serves the people and the nation. We urge all Nigerians, especially our youth, to remain vigilant and involved.
“The survival of democracy requires our collective will and relentless pursuit of truth and justice. Let the message be clear: The NYO will not be silent while democracy is undermined and our voices are suppressed.”

Niger Trains Staff, Security Agencies, Others on Tackling GBV Stigmatisation Through Religious Perspective
Worried by the increasing cases of stigmatisation of survivors of gender-based violence in Niger State, the state Ministries of Humanitarian Affairs and the Ministry of Women Affairs have organised a on e-day workshop for over 40 government officials, security agencies and service providers on ways to tackle stigmatisation through religious perspective.
The one-day event, supported by the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) in collaboration with the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), with support from the Ford Foundation, under the Muslim Opinion Leaders for the prevention of GBV in Northern Nigeria, is aimed at strengthening the capacities of GBV desk officers in the state’s humanitarian, women affairs, and security agencies on adopting religious teachings in preventing stigmatisation and rehabilitation of survivors in the state.
Declaring the workshop open, the Solicitor-General of Niger State, Mr. Mairo Muhammad Mann, described the intervention as a great opportunity to tackle the menace that has been bedevilling survivors of GBV, who have been faced with the double victimisation of suffering from the violence they suffered for years in captivity, but also being stigmatised in their communities leading to many of them contemplating returning to captivity than facing increasing victimisation in their communities.
She disclosed that the state government is determined to continue to provide a conducive environment for survivors through psycho-social support, empowerment and community integration.
She then commended the organisers for introducing the teaching of religion in tackling stigmatisation for the victims of abuses.
In his keynote address, the Chief Imam of Federal University of Technology, Minna, Dr Bashir Ahmad Yankuzo, described gender-based violence as a scourge that transcends religion, culture and geography.
He said it is a violation of human rights, a betrayal of trust and a distortion of the divine principles of compassion and justice that Islam and Christianity—and indeed all faiths—hold sacred.
“Today, we gather not only to condemn this evil but to reaffirm our collective duty—as people of faith—to uphold the dignity of survivors with mercy, justice and unwavering support. Let me emphatically state that: Islam places the sanctity of human life and dignity at the forefront of its teachings,” he said
Yankuzo added that this honour is not conditional—it is an inherent right granted to every human being, male or female. “The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasized this in his Farewell Sermon: ‘O people! Your lives, your property, and your honour are sacred to one another’.
“When GBV occurs, it is not just a crime against an individual—it is a violation of divine decree. Our faith compels us to stand against oppression in all forms, particularly against the most vulnerable,” he added
In her address at the occasion, the state Amira of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Abdullahi, charged the service providers, security agencies and government officials attending the workshop to open their minds and be ready to challenge assumptions, share knowledge and strengthen the collective capacities to work together to rid the society of the menace of stigmatising survivors of gender-based violence.
Earlier, the royal father of the day, Barayan Zazzau and the District Head of Kabula, Alhaji Muhammad Aliyu Yazid, said that the Suleja emirate and the entire traditional council of Niger State are behind any intervention for the victims of GBV in Nigeria, adding that as an institution close to the victims, they will continue to support any intervention that will reintegrate survivors back to their community.
“There is the need to continue to engage religious and traditional leaders to invest in reintegrating survivors of GBV in their communities through moral support, economic support, and through giving the needed care for the survivors to enable them get comforted and for them to put behind their horrible experiences while in captivity,” he added.
In his welcome address at the workshop, the Director of Partnership and Communication at the development Research and Projects Centre, Malam Hassan Aliyu Karofi, described the one-day workshop as a response to the recent rescue of the 27 women who have been in captivity for a long time and have returned with pregnancies and children.
He disclosed that the workshop will help in building the capacities of the participants to support survivors of gender-based violence in the state.
