The Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries, Auchi, Edo State, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has called on the people of the state to rise in self-defence, following the persistent herdsmen attacks on the communities.
In a post on his verified Facebook page, Suleman berated the federal government for what he described as inaction and a failed security architecture in the face of ongoing bloodshed in Benue and other parts of the country.
“If the federal govt knows it’s overwhelmed or its security architecture has failed, they should be humble enough to tell the citizens… Self-defence is enshrined in the constitution.. I said it when I went to Jos and Benue.. we can’t watch this continue.”
“PEOPLE OF BENUE, DEFEND YOURSELF.. What is happening in Benue state is evil, barbaric and a mayhem..,” he wrote.
The cleric also took a swipe at politicians who he said are more focused on the 2027 elections than the urgent security needs of the people.

President Donald Trump of the United States on Sunday called on warring Iran and Israel to make a deal, suggesting that they might need to fight it out first.
Trump said this while addressing reporters as Israel and Iran exchanged a fresh barrage of missile strikes and threatened more devastation in a conflict that appeared to be intensifying.
“I think it’s time for a deal. But sometimes they have to fight it out, but we’re going to see what happens,” Trump said, speaking at the White House before heading to Canada to take part in a G7 summit.
After several years of enmity and a prolonged shadow war fought through proxies and covert operations, the latest conflict marks the first time arch-enemies Israel and Iran have traded fire with such intensity, triggering fears of a lengthy conflict that could engulf the entire Middle East.
DAILY POST reports that the conflict began Friday, when Israel launched attacks that have killed top military commanders and nuclear scientists, and struck military bases, nuclear sites and residential areas across the country.
Meanwhile, Trump remained mute when asked if he had asked Israel to pause airstrikes on Iran.
A senior US official had earlier alleged that Trump had vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The recent attacks in Benue State, Nigeria, which have resulted in significant loss of life and displacement, has ignited outrage online and on the streets of Makurdi, the state capital.
According to a report by Amnesty International, gunmen launched a coordinated attack on Yelewata village in Benue State’s Guma area, killing at least 100 people. The attack occurred between late Friday and early Saturday, June 13 and 14.
It was widely reported that the death toll may exceed 200, with many families burned inside their bedrooms and dozens still missing. Hundreds were injured while many survivors are without adequate medical care.
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has sent a delegation to offer support to relatives of the victims. However, the state government has faced criticism for allegedly suppressing peaceful protests that erupted in the wake of the killings.
Indeed, protests broke out in Makurdi, the state capital, with youths blocking major highways and demanding justice and protection. The police had allegedly arrested 14 people in connection with the protests, which were allegedly hijacked by hoodlums.
It is believed that the attacks may have been linked to herders, with some reports suggesting foreign mercenaries may have been involved. The police have also arrested 33 individuals from northern Nigeria who were attempting to take residence in a private property in Makurdi.
The incident has since sparked widespread outrage, with calls for President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Benue State.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), a tweep @BI_TINLAYE wrote: “Those horrible videos I watched about that innocent 200 citizens of Benue Nigeria that got massacred is the most saddest videos ever, like why can’t the government declare the state of emergency in that state?”
Another tweep @NelsonSplendid1 wrote: “Why should the government rehabilitate people who deliberately killed innocent children? What crime did these little children commit that warranted their massacre by Fulani herdsmen? A state of emergency should be declared in Benue to end this pogrom now.”
Human rights organisations have also warned that unchecked violence in the region could spiral into a wider ethnic in the wake of the killings.
Amnesty International has described the incident as “horrifying,” criticizing the Nigerian authorities for failing to curb the violence. It demanded an immediate end to the “almost daily bloodshed” and swift justice for the perpetrators.
Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) warned that Nigeria is on the brink of a full-scale ethnic war if the government fails to act decisively. It condemned the massacre of over 200 people in Benue State by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen.
Initiative for Human Rights and Gender Awareness (IHRGA) has started a petition on online calling for an end to the Benue killings. It shared its concerns using hashtags #StopBenueKillings #SaveBenue #JusticeForYelewata.
These organizations have expressed concern over the Nigerian government’s inability to protect its citizens and prevent such attacks. They also highlighted the need for urgent action to prevent further loss of life and livelihood.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has issued a press statement in reaction to the onslaught in Benue State.
He said: “Enough is enough! I have directed the security agencies to act decisively, arrest perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict, and prosecute them. Political and community leaders in Benue State must act responsibly and avoid inflammatory utterances that could further increase tensions and killings.
“This is the time for Governor Alia to act as a statesman and immediately lead the process of dialogue and reconciliation that will bring peace to Benue. Our people must live in peace, and it is possible when leaders across the divides work together in harmony and differences are identified and addressed with fairness, openness and justice.”

A Nigerian-American man, Omoyoma Okoro, currently serving a 100-month prison sentence for his role in a massive $80 million fraud scheme, now faces new charges that could add up to 30 more years behind bars and result in the revocation of his U.S. citizenship.
In a statement released by the U.S. Department of Justice, Okoro was convicted in September 2024 by the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania on multiple counts, including conspiracy to commit mail, wire, and bank fraud.
He was also found guilty of two additional counts of wire fraud, one count of mail fraud, and one count of bank fraud. The court ordered him to pay over $22 million in restitution.
The fraud, authorities say, occurred between 2008 and 2011, several years before Okoro applied to naturalize as a U.S. citizen.
In 2018, Okoro submitted his application for naturalization. During the process, he was asked if he had ever committed a crime or offense, to which he responded “No” under penalty of perjury.
He was granted citizenship and took the oath on December 13, 2018. His arrest and subsequent conviction came after this process.
“Okoro is alleged to have knowingly and materially made false statements under penalty of perjury on his application for naturalization,” the DOJ said.
He now faces a three-count indictment for naturalization fraud. If convicted, he could receive an additional sentence of up to 30 years in prison, along with automatic revocation of his U.S. citizenship.
This development comes just a week after another Nigerian, Kingsley Utulu, was sentenced to five years and three months in prison for his role in a large-scale hacking and identity theft scheme that defrauded U.S. tax authorities and individuals of over $2.5 million.

In a post on X on Monday morning, Obi claimed it showed Tinubu does not value human lives.
He pointed to incidents in India and South Africa, as examples of what good leaders when tragedies happen.
There has been widespread outrage over Tinubu’s response to over 200 people being massacred by herders in Benue state.

“That is leadership with compassion. That is leadership that understands the value of human life. But here in Nigeria, we have normalised leadership without empathy, without accountability, and without a human face.

In an official press statement, Chairman Ejeh stated that the move became necessary due to the alarming increase in criminal activities linked to unchecked logging operations.
According to him, “The incessant logging has not only caused severe environmental degradation but has also provided cover for criminal elements to operate freely.” He described the development as a “grave concern” requiring urgent and decisive intervention.
From now on, all logging operations within Agatu must receive direct authorization from the Chairman’s office.
