Lere Olayinka, the media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, described the House of Representatives member from Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State, Imo Ikenga Ugochinyere, as a political “Hushpuppi.”

Olayinka said Ugochinyere has been silent over the appointment of 23 administrators to preside over the local government areas of Rivers State.

Recall that the chairmen elected were suspended following the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu in the state.

The emergency rule was declared due to the political crisis between Wike and Governor Sim Fubara who was also suspended for six months.

Amid the crisis with Wike, Ugochinyere has backed Fubara and the suspended administration in Rivers State.

However, Olayinka wondered why the lawmaker has been silent over the appointment of local government administrators.

Posting on X, Olayinka wrote: “We told Fubara that Ugochinyere is a Political Hushpuppi, he (Fubara) didn’t listen. Where is Ugochinyere today?

“Won’t Ugochinyere do Live TV Press Conference on this appointment of LG Sole Administrators and SIEC members in Rivers State?

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has said the Islamist group Boko Haram has renewed its attacks and kidnappings in the state with little pushback from security forces, suggesting that authorities in the region are losing ground to the insurgents.

Zulum stated this during a meeting with security forces in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Tuesday.

DAILY POST reports that Boko Haram militants and its offshoot, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), have mainly operated in the northeast of Nigeria, attacking security forces and civilians, and killing and displacing tens of thousands of people.

In recent years, Nigeria’s military had managed to push back Boko Haram, while internal clashes with ISWAP further weakened the group.

According to Zulum, Boko Haram has recently increased its attacks, dislodging some military formations in several districts and killing both civilians and security personnel.

“It is a setback in the fragile state of Borno and the North East region,” Zulum said.

The governor added that the renewed Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings in many communities—almost on a daily basis and without confrontation—signal that Borno State is losing ground.

At the time of filing this report, the military had yet to comment on the development.

Meanwhile, the military had previously acknowledged that Boko Haram, which is based in Borno State, has adapted its tactics over time, including the use of drones for surveillance and attacks.

DAILY POST also reports that Nigeria’s task in the northeast has been further complicated by Niger’s withdrawal from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), which combats armed Islamist groups in the Lake Chad region.

The MNJTF includes soldiers from Nigeria, Chad, and Cameroon.

Zulum urged Nigeria to intensify its efforts in deploying technological warfare to stem the tide of renewed attacks bedeviling parts of Sahelian Borno.

An Inspector of Police, Stephen Enang, reportedly slumped and died shortly after watching Arsenal defeat Spanish giants Real Madrid 3–0.

Inspector Enang, a native of Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, was said to have been attached to the Akim Police Division along IBB Way, Calabar.

The deceased, a passionate Arsenal fan, was visibly elated during the match.

Speaking to reporters, one of his close friends, who witnessed the incident and requested anonymity, recounted the shocking moment it happened.

“We were watching the match at a viewing centre on Abang-Asang Street. He was in great spirits—healthy, happy, cheering every goal. Arsenal scored the first, second, and third goals, and he was overjoyed.

“He jumped up in excitement multiple times. But after the final whistle, when everyone started leaving, we noticed Stephen wasn’t getting up like the rest of us. That’s when we realized something was wrong,” the witness said.

The witness added that Enang had slumped in his seat and was unresponsive. He was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital in Akim, where medical personnel made frantic efforts to revive him, but he was pronounced dead.

“He was soft-spoken, football-loving, and an ardent Arsenal supporter. This came as a huge shock to all of us,” the friend added.

At the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Cross River State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, for an official statement proved unsuccessful, as calls went unanswered and messages sent to her were not returned.

The grieving mother of 16-year-old Ahmed Musa, a student of Government Technical College, Malali, has called on the authorities to deliver justice for her son who was found brutally murdered within his school premises on February 16, 2025.

Ahmed, an SS2 student, was discovered lifeless with his hands and legs tied, sparking outrage and sorrow across Kaduna North Local Government Area. Nearly two months after the chilling discovery, his family says justice has been slow and agonising.

On Tuesday, the bereaved mother stormed the Chief Magistrate Court in Kabala Doki, Kaduna, accompanied by relatives and sympathisers, demanding accountability and expressing deep frustration with what she described as government neglect.

“I want the public to know that no matter what, I, the mother of late Ahmed Musa, won’t rest until I get justice,” she said tearfully. “Looking at how the murder case is being handled, it’s as if the Kaduna State government and the Nigerian Police want to frustrate our pursuit of justice.”

She accused the state government of abandoning the family since the tragic incident occurred and vowed to mobilise mass action if concrete steps were not taken.

“We will organise a mass protest across the state. We have started contacting different women’s organisations. We will also proceed to Berekete, the Human Rights Radio, until justice is achieved,” she declared.

The aggrieved mother also appealed to human rights organisations such as Amnesty International to intervene and ensure the case does not end in silence.

Meanwhile, Justice Naheed Ibrahim Abdulhamid of the Chief Magistrate Court in Kabala Doki has once again adjourned the murder trial to May 27, 2025.
