Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has described a senior White House trade advisor, Peter Navarro, as “truly a moron” and “dumber than a sack of bricks”.

This is his latest salvo in what has become a growing rift over President Donald Trump’s tariff policy.

Musk, who himself is a key aide to Trump, has indicated his opposition to the tariffs.

He has now hit out at Navarro who claimed his electric vehicle company was “not a car manufacturer” but “a car assembler.”

Musk reacted on X under a clip of Navarro saying Tesla imported batteries, electronics and tires, and that Musk “wants the cheap foreign parts.”

The billionaire businessman wrote: “Tesla has the most American-made cars. Navarro is dumber than a sack of bricks.”

Musk is eager for a free-trade zone between North America and Europe — a wish at odds with Trump’s flagship tariffs.

Trump has ruled out any pause in his aggressive stance despite retaliatory action from China and signs of criticism from within his Republican Party.

Former Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Chief Nduese Essien says Nigerians need opportunities to work and prosper, including access to land, loans, training, stable electricity, and consistent policies that enable them to farm, trade, and grow their careers and businesses.

He maintained that citizens do not need the politically motivated hand-outs under the guise of empowerment which would further impoverish them and enrich the political class.

Speaking at an event in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, Essien who is also a former senator observed that the impact of empowerment programmes in years past had been minimal despite billions spent.

Essien argued that no serious government sustains poverty alleviation by handing out foodstuffs and cash to its citizens, instead, responsible nations ”focus on long-term investments that build human capacity and stimulate productivity.”

His words, “I am calling on the government to take another look at what has come to be known as empowerment and find better, more sustainable ways of providing safety nets. We must stop the routine sharing of food items and cash to people who will return to the same queue the next day. It is neither dignifying nor effective.

“The truth is, many people who were ‘empowered’ since 1999 are still standing in the same queue, waiting for the next round. The impact has been minimal despite billions spent over the years.

“What we need is infrastructure that supports markets, technology that opens new doors, and policies that attract investments,”

Chief Essien also expressed disappointment with the Ministries of Humanitarian Affairs at the federal and state levels, which he accused of becoming notorious pipelines for large-scale embezzlement.

“One would have thought that the creation of these ministries would make a significant impact on the welfare of the people. Unfortunately, they have become conduits through which public funds are stolen with utter recklessness. All the ministers of humanitarian affairs in Nigeria have been accused of misappropriating and embezzling billions of naira meant for people in distress,” he said.

He, therefore called for governance reform and models that would build dignity and not dependency.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, has declared that the title of Sarkin Sasa is not a recognised title in Ibadanland.
The traditional ruler made this disclosure via a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Solomon Ayoade.
The statement was made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday.
The traditional ruler, in the statement, noted the title of Sarkin Sasa as null and void and not recognised by the Ibadan Traditional Chieftaincy Law.
The monarch explained that the decision was made during the Olubadan-in-Council meeting held at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan, on Monday.
The traditional ruler stated: “Chief Akinade Ajani Amusa is the recognised Baale of Sasa land in Akinyele Local Area and the accredited representative of the Olubadan of Ibadanland,” Olubadan confirmed.
“Let it be noted that any individual or group of persons in Sasa land are under the authority of the Baale of Sasaland; Chief Amusa Akinade Ajani.
“It is therefore imperative to accord him the appropriate respect and authority. Any disobedience to his directive will be met with serious sanctions as it will be considered an affront to the Olubadan stool.”

The Country Director of the World Bank, Dr Ndiame Diop, has disclosed that the emancipation of the African region lies in the hands of Nigerians.

Diop made this disclosure while delivering a distinguished personality lecture series organised by the department of Agricultural Economics, University of Ibadan on Tuesday.

The event was attended by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Kayode Adebowale who was represented by Professor Oladayo Sonibare and Head of the department, Professor Bola Omonona.

Diop while delivering his lecture titled “Leveraging agricultural transformation for sustainable economic development in Nigeria: Key considerations” charged Nigerians to do what they can to take the country to the promise land.

He, however, disclosed that Africa’s development lies in the hands of Nigerians, saying that Africa will succeed if Nigeria succeeds.

The World Bank director maintained that Nigeria must keep its house in order, adding that his experience in Nigeria has shown him Nigerians have the capacity to turn around Africa.

“The success of Nigeria is the success of Africa. If Nigeria succeeds, Africa will succeed. The country has enough resources, the only thing is that individuals have ambitions.

“The best way is to keep your house in order, control your domestic policies. Nigerians have the will to do the right thing”.

Meanwhile, Senator Bagudu, in his presentation, disclosed that agriculture is one of the main priorities of the current administration to revamp the Nigerian economy.

He noted that the current administration is working to revamp the economy, saying that to achieve this, the government has taken the issue of security, food sufficiency and competitive advantage seriously.

“Agriculture is one of our main priorities. To develop the agricultural sector, we have taken security, food sufficiency and competitive advantage seriously. We want to ensure that agriculture remains competitive.

“Insecurity is affecting the agricultural sector. Even the fishery. In order to address this, the current administration has created ministries of livestock development and blue economy to create more opportunities. What we want to do is to ensure that we produce enough food for the citizens for profitability and sustainability”.

Senator Sunday Karimi (Kogi West) has lambasted his colleague, Senator Ali Ndume (Borno South), over his recent criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, advising him to focus on resolving the Boko Haram insurgency crisis plaguing his constituency.

Ndume, a guest on Arise TV’s “Prime Time” show, had accused the Tinubu administration of various failings, including running three parallel budgets, excessive borrowing without legislative approval, and violating the federal character principle by allegedly appointing over 70% of officials from the South West.

He also expressed concern about worsening insecurity, pointing to killings in Plateau State, violent events in Edo, and the renewed activities of Boko Haram and ISWAP in Borno.

“As a Nigerian, I have the right to voice this out, but Tinubu’s attack dogs will attack me and not the message. It is not personal,” Ndume stated.

Responding to the criticism, Karimi, a fellow member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate caucus, called on Ndume to redirect his energy to finding local solutions to the insurgency in his district, particularly in Zabon Gari, Damboa.

“Rather than playing to the gallery and criticising government, Senator Ndume, as a leader of his people, should go back, liaise with his people on solving Boko Haram problems,” Karimi said.

He emphasized the heavy toll of the insurgency, noting the loss of lives and economic cost Nigeria has borne over the years.

“In fact, I lost one of the young officers, a captain in the Army from my Senatorial District serving in his community three weeks ago.

“Lots of young Nigerians had lost their lives fighting to defend the territorial integrity of our country. Over 50 percent of Nigeria’s earnings in the last few years are being expended on fighting insurgency,” Karimi added.

He stressed that every security challenge requires a local solution and urged leaders like Ndume to focus on tangible interventions rather than public criticism.
