The White House has said it is moving on from the recent controversy over the leak of war plans on commercial messaging app Signal.

It has now declared that the “case has been closed”.

Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt on Monday, said that steps had been taken to ensure that the same scenario was not repeated in the future.

However, she did not elaborate on the measures.

Leavitt’s statement appeared to end speculation that National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who invited the journalist to the chat, and Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth, who shared the sensitive information, would be punished.

Democratic lawmaker Madeleine Dean had accused Republicans of showing a “weakness of thought” by deflecting away from the “blunders” of the so-called Signalgate controversy.

Dean wrote on social media: “The Trump Administration’s mishandling of sensitive military plans was a staggering failure.

“Republicans have devolved into ‘what-about-ism.’ It’s time for accountability. It’s time for answers.”

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has said that she would not back out on her plan to return to her constituency for the Sallah break.

This is even as she urged her supporters to discard speculations making the round that she has cancelled her scheduled visit.

Akpoti-Uduaghan made this known in a statement by her media team on Tuesday.

The development comes shortly after Kogi State Government banned rallies and public gatherings in the state over an alleged ‘security reports’.

The government also stopped fishing and other activities, lamenting that fishing activities resulted in the loss of two lives in Kasemiya, Katubo and Umozu Ette, all in Kogi Local Government Area in Kogi West.

“Despite rumours circulating online, there has been no official announcement from our office regarding the cancellation of this visit.

“We would like to assure the public that all necessary arrangements are in place to ensure a successful and joyous event. We invite all members of the community to join us in marking this special occasion,” part of the statement.

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday demanded punishment on Russia for more than 183,000 alleged war crimes documented by Ukraine since Moscow’s 2022 invasion, saying justice was needed to prevent evil from proliferating.

Zelenskyy stated this at a summit of European officials in Bucha, northwest of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, where Russian troops have been accused of atrocities including executions, rapes and torture while occupying it.

Although Russia has not given any comment after business hours on Zelenskyy’s remarks, but has previously denied that its soldiers have committed atrocities, stating that the West has ignored Ukraine’s crimes, a charge Kyiv denied.

“More than 183,000 crimes related to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine have been officially documented,” Zelenskyy said on the third anniversary of Russian troops being forced out of Bucha.

The Ukrainian leader further said that the tally documented by Ukraine since the February 2022 full-scale invasion did not include most of the Ukrainian territory Russia currently occupies.

“We need effective international law to guarantee the protection of our people and all European society from such threats.

“Justice must be served to prevent evil from proliferating. Pressure on Russia and sanctions against it are necessary to ensure that the war and abuse do not expand further,” Zelenskyy said.

Tech billionaire, Elon Musk has accused employees at the US Institute of Peace of deleting a terabyte of financial data to their cover crimes.

Musk, however, said that the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, was able to recover the deleted data as it has better understanding of the technology.

The Tesla CEO made this known in a post on his X handle on Tuesday while replying to post claiming that the DOGE team fought for days to gain access to the United States Institute of Peace.

The post also claimed that DOGE discovered massive fraud, waste and abuse-including payments to Taliban and Iraq.

The statement comes after Musk’s DOGE sent employees email notices of their mass firing, the latest step in the President Donald Trump administration’s government downsizing.

The emails were sent to personal accounts as most staff members had lost access to the agency’s system on Friday.

In his post on X, Musk suggested that any government institution is most likely to be the opposite of its name.

Police rescue 21 kidnap victims, recover over N4m ransom in Taraba, Kano

The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 21 kidnap victims and recovered N4.8 million believed to be ransom money, alongside arms and ammunition, during coordinated operations against criminal syndicates in Taraba and Kano states.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in a statement, said the operations led to the arrest of six suspects involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.

According to Adejobi, one of the key operations occurred on March 29, 2025, in Muji town, Taraba State, where officers from the state command, in collaboration with other security agencies, rescued 20 kidnap victims along the Takum/Mararaba road.

The rescue mission reportedly followed a fierce gunfight between the security operatives and the kidnappers, forcing the criminals to flee and abandon their victims and vehicles. Two of the rescued individuals who sustained injuries during the operation are currently receiving medical treatment.

In Kano State, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested a gang responsible for the abduction of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau, who was kidnapped on March 8, 2025.

Adejobi stated that an extensive investigation led to the arrest of five suspects identified as Tukur Lawal (alias Maikudi), Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim on March 18 and 19. Authorities recovered a locally made rifle and N4.84 million during the operation, while Dr. Yushau was rescued unharmed and reunited with his family.

In a separate operation, the Special Tactical Squad (STS) apprehended Kafinta Musa in Taraba State for alleged involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and unlawful possession of firearms. An AK-49 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the suspect.

Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, Adejobi emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring public safety.

“These successful operations highlight the dedication of the Nigeria Police Force and the support of law-abiding citizens in safeguarding communities and enhancing security,” he said.

The police reiterated their commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country.
