Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, has denied allegations that former governor, Yahaya Bello, Governor Usman Ododo and Senate President Godswill Akpabio plotted to assassinate Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Fanwo maintained that there was never any discussion that Natasha should be assassinated.

Natasha made the allegation while addressing her supporters during a rousing welcome in her hometown in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State on Tuesday.

She said though the plot was not made public, the Nigeria Police Force has since been notified.

According to her, Akpabio initiated her recall process after allegedly promising the former governor of funds.

Natasha had said: “The second thing he said was that he should try and kill me. I didn’t make this public, but I have written to the IG of Police.

“Akpabio told Yahaya Bello that he should make sure that killing me does not happen in Abuja, that it should happen here so that it will look as if it was the people that killed me here”.

Reacting, Fanwo, in an interview with Channels TV, said: “The governor (Ododo) and the senate president never discussed anything that has to do with the suspended senator (Natasha) of Kogi Central.

“There was no conversation to recall her, and there was no conversation to assassinate her.”

Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will today, Wednesday, decide on the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, on the conduct of last year’s gubernatorial election in the State.

The PDP and Ighodalo are challenging the declaration of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the September 21, 2024 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

They alleged that the election was marred by irregularities and non compliance with the electoral laws.

DAILY POST reported that the three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, had, on March 3, reserved judgment in the petition after parties adopted their final written addresses.

However, confusion erupted on Tuesday as leaked copies of a yet-to-be-read judgement of the Edo State Governorship tribunal flooded the internet.

According to the judgement document making the rounds on the internet, the lead judgement dismissed the petition and affirmed the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Reacting to the development, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, dismissed the purported judgment circulating online.

In an interview with DAILY POST on Tuesday, Ologunagba stated that it was not right to believe the alleged court judgment.

He said: “I don’t work online. You can’t stick your integrity on someone just waking up one morning and put something online and then you begin to run around with that; that’s not alright.”

On whether his party is optimistic about the upcoming tribunal judgement, the PDP spokesman stated that the party would first wait for the court to give its judgement on the matter before it will react to it.

Ologunagba added that there’s nothing optimistic about the Nigerian judiciary.

“Let them come out with the judgment first. Then we will deal with that.

“Obviously there’s nothing optimistic about the Nigerian judiciary,” he added.

Meanwhile, ahead of Wednesday, today’s judgment by the Tribunal, the state Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has sent a message of hope and unity to supporters, members of the ruling APC, and residents of the state.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Fred Itua, in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, said that Okpebholo urged all residents of the state to maintain peace and order.

According to the statement, the governor expressed full confidence in the judiciary and its ability to deliver a fair and just judgment.

“The tribunal’s decision is a crucial part of our democratic process, and we must all respect its authority.

“I want to emphasise that our state’s progress and development are paramount. We must not allow political differences to disrupt the peace and harmony we have worked so hard to build.

“We are people committed to democracy, peace, and progress,” the governor said.

United States President, Donald Trump has congratulated Republicans, Jimmy Patronis and Randy Fine after the duo won the special elections on Tuesday in two Florida congressional districts.

Patronis fended off a challenge from Democrat Gay Valimont even though she far outraised and outspent him.

He will now fill the northwest Florida 1st District seat vacated by former Rep. Matt Gaetz.

On his part, Fine won against Democratic challenger Josh Weil in north Florida’s 6th District.

Fine will now fill the seat vacated by Mike Waltz who is now Trump’s national security adviser.

The latest wins bolsters Republicans’ margin of 220-213 in the House of Representatives.

Reacting, Trump congratulated both candidates in a post on his Truth Social media account on Tuesday night.

He also boasted that his endorsement helped them secure a victory.

Trump wrote: “Both Florida House Seats have been won, big by the Republican candidate. The Trump endorsement, as always, proved far greater than the Democrats forces of evil. Congratulations to America!

Oldest kingmaker, Galadiman Kano Abbas Sunusi dies at 91

Alhaji Abbas Sunusi, the revered Galadima of Kano, and the ancient city’s oldest kingmaker, died Tuesday night at the age of 91.

He was a prominent figure in the Kano Emirate Council, serving as Wamban Kano and senior Councilor under the late Emir Muhammadu Sanusi I, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

Galadiman Kano is also the Father of Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano State, Abdullahi Abbas, and Alhaji Kabiru Abbas, both sons of the deceased, who confirmed the death on Tuesday night.

“Yes, Baba has died after a prolonged illness,” they said.

Abbas Sunusi’s death marks a significant loss for the community.

He served under the late Emir Alhaji Ado Bayero who reigned from 1963 to 2014.

He is survived by his wives and 35 children, among whom is Abdullahi Abbas.

His funeral is scheduled to take place at the Gidan Rumfa Emir’s Place today at 9 a.m.
