Members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, also known as the Shiites, launched an unprovoked attack on security operatives in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, on Friday.
Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, said in a statement that during the attack, one security operative was killed, while two others were injured.
She explained that at about 2:20 pm on Friday, the FCT Police Command received a distress call reporting a violent assault on security personnel by IMN members armed with firearms, cutlasses, catapults, sticks, stones, petrol bombs, and other lethal weapons in the Banex area, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2.
“Upon swift deployment to the scene, police and security personnel encountered intense gunfire from the attackers, resulting in the serious injury of three security operatives. They were promptly transported to the National Hospital, where one was tragically pronounced dead,” she said.
The police spokesperson noted that about 19 suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, while others managed to escape.
She confirmed that normalcy has since been fully restored, and investigations are ongoing to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice.
“CP Ajao Saka Adewale emphasised that actions are being implemented to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act,” she added.

AYCF condemns killing of 16 travelers from Northern Nigeria in Edo
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has condemned Thursday’s incident in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi, Edo State, where 16 innocent travellers from Northern Nigeria tragically lost their lives in what it described as “a horrifying display of mob injustice.”
According to the statement issued by the National President of the AYCF, Yerima Shettima: “These victims, primarily Hausa hunters, were en route from Port Harcourt to Kano to celebrate the Sallah festivities when they fell prey to a brutal and misguided attack, fuelled by false accusations and sheer ignorance.
“It is with deep sorrow that we learnt these individuals were intercepted around 1:30 pm by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes.
“The subsequent actions of an irate mob, incited by unfounded claims of kidnapping, led to a grotesque act of barbarism that is both regrettable and unacceptable. The mob’s actions resulted in the loss of 16 precious lives, with some bodies tragically trapped inside the vehicle that was set ablaze.
“Eyewitness accounts reveal the horrifying scene where some victims were removed on wheelbarrows and thrown into the flames—a chilling testament to the sickening reality of mob justice that has taken root in many Southern Nigerian communities.”
AYCF denounced the act of mob violence and called for immediate and thorough investigations into the “grotesque tragedy,” demanding that authorities take swift and decisive action against those responsible for inciting and participating in the heinous crime.
While acknowledging the pain and anger caused by the incident within the Hausa community in Uromi and beyond, AYCF urged for calm and peace. It stressed the importance of resisting the temptation of retaliation and instead, canvassed for justice through lawful means.

Vance made the remarks during a visit to a US military base at Pituffik Space Base in Greenland.
According to him, there is strong evidence that both Russia and China seek control of the island and access to its resources.
He was joined at Pituffik Space Base by Energy Secretary Chris Wright and White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.
“Our message to Denmark is very simple,” Vance said.
“You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland. Denmark has not kept pace in devoting the resources necessary to keep this base, to protect our troops, and, in my view, to safeguard the people of Greenland from numerous aggressive incursions by Russia, China, and other nations.”
