Adamawa State Police Command has in collaboration with sister security agencies deployed personnel and operational assets to ensure a hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

This is as the state Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, directed all area commanders, tactical teams and divisional police officers to intensify security arrangements within their areas of responsibility.

“This includes the deployment of personnel to critical locations such as eid grounds, event centers, markets, recreational centers, and other public gathering places to prevent any form of security threats,” according to a statement released Saturday morning.

The statement, signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, said that as part of the Eid security strategy, the Command had also increased patrols, Stop and Search on all entry and exit roads, major highways, residential areas, and business environments.

“The CP has further warned officers deployed for these assignments to be professional and public friendly while carrying out these responsibilities,” Nguroje stated.

He said the CP also called on the general public to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers: 08089671313, 07068283848, and 08038666304

“The Adamawa State Police Command wishes all Muslim faithful a happy and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration and reassures the public of its commitment to ensuring the security of all residents before, during, and after the celebrations,” Nguroje concluded.

Commandant Akinsola Aderemi, the Abia State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) has said that about 1310 personnel have been deployed to protect critical national assets ahead of the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations in the State.

According to the State Commandant, the operational order for the celebration period has been communicated to the Area Commanders and the Divisional Officers covering all the local government areas in the State, with special attention given to the protection of Critical National Assets & Infrastructure.

A press release signed by Doreen Udugwu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said eRapid Response Squad, Tactical Team, and the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) will patrol black spots, vulnerable locations, recreational centers, and other flash points to nip in the bud any criminal intentions.

Also, operatives from the Female Squad, Anti-vandal Unit, and Agro Rangers Unit will coordinate and watchfully protect lives and properties before, during, and after the Salah Celebration.

The Abia NSCDC Commandant assured the residents that NSCDC will be civil and professional in the discharge of the National assignment under his watch and also appealed to the good people of Abia State to be security conscious and law-abiding.

While wishing Muslim faithful a blessed Salah celebration, the Commandant urged the residents to report suspicious movements to security agencies for prompt response.

Federal lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum has condemned the brutal killing of innocent Hausa travelers in Uromi, Edo State, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure justice for the victims.

The travelers, mostly Hausa hunters, were reportedly attacked and killed by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes while on their way to Kano for the Sallah festivities. Several others sustained injuries, with one victim currently hospitalized.

Reacting to the incident, Rurum, who represents Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, expressed deep sorrow and outrage, describing the attack as “barbaric and unjustifiable.”

“This heinous act is not just a violation of human rights but also a clear sign of growing hostility and targeted violence against Northerners in certain parts of the country,” he said.

According to the lawmaker, at least seven of the victims were from Torankawa in Sanda Ward of Bunkure Local Government Area, while others hailed from Kura and Garko LGAs of Kano State.

Rurum warned that the continued killings of innocent Northerners in parts of the South-East and South-South must not be ignored, calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to take decisive action.

“It is unacceptable that innocent citizens are continuously subjected to violence and extrajudicial killings while traveling or conducting their legitimate businesses. The government must act now to put an end to these senseless attacks,” he stated.

The lawmaker urged President Tinubu, the IGP, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted.

“Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. Concrete measures should be put in place to protect the lives and rights of all Nigerians, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds,” Rurum emphasized.

He also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Kano State.

“I stand in solidarity with the grieving families. May the souls of the departed rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and may Allah grant their families the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.

Adams said giving Nwosu’s role in delivering June 12, 1993 Presidential election, which was adjusted globally as the freest and fairest in Nigeria, he should be immortalized.

For the second time, the Senate rejected a motion seeking to immortalise Nwosu.

It only agreed to honour his death by observing a minute silence.

The stance of the Senate had led to a heated argument on the floor of the Upper Legislative chambers and Southeast senators staged a walkout.

In a statement he signed, Adams said the former NEC “through having a sincere chairman like Humphrey Nwosu” conducted free and fair election that gave the Late Chief MKO Abiola “the mandate that the Nigerian government then did not install him as president.”

He urged the Nigerian government to name a monument after Nwosu as “a good precedence for other INEC chairmen to be honest when they were being given the position on the basis of organizing elections in Nigeria.”

According to Adams: “It is very important that Nwosu should be recognized, the genesis of having a free and fair or the foundation of having a free and fair June 12, 1993 elections was through having a sincere NEC chairman like Nwosu.

“Nwosu conducted free and fair election that gave Aare MKO Abiola the mandate that the Nigerian government then did not install him as president.

“And the respect and the glory that Aare MKO Abiola is having today is as a result of the honesty displayed by the then NEC chairman and the products that worked with him that made it happen.

“So if Abiola can be honoured by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018, so definitely Humphrey Nwosu has to be immortalised. At least, there should be a monument that they should name after him so that it can be a good precedence for other INEC chairmen to be honest when they were being given the position on the basis of organizing elections in Nigeria.”

Stressing that nothing must be done to deny Nwosu the honour he deserved, Adams said “his spirit will not be happy with Nigeria.”

Adams faulted Yorubas against immortalizing Nwosu, stressing that it would “amount to self centeredness.”

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has condemned what they called “mob injustice” where 16 innocent travelers from Northern Nigeria tragically lost their lives in Uromi, Edo State, calling for justice and accountability.

According to AYCF, the events transpired on Thursday in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi, Edo State, where 16 innocent travelers from Northern Nigeria tragically lost their lives.

A statement issued by the forum’s National President, Yerima Shetima stated that the individuals were intercepted around 1:30 pm by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes.

According to him, “The subsequent actions of an irate mob, incited by unfounded claims of kidnapping, led to a grotesque act of barbarism that is both regrettable and unacceptable.

“The mob’s actions resulted in the loss of 16 precious lives, with some bodies tragically trapped inside the vehicle that was set ablaze.”

He further explained that eyewitness accounts revealed the “horrifying scene where some victims were removed on wheelbarrows and thrown into the flames, a chilling testament to the sickening reality of mob justice that has taken root in most Southern Nigerian communities”.

The AYCF then denounced the act of mob violence and called for immediate and thorough investigations into the “grotesque tragedy” and demanded that the authorities take swift and decisive action against those responsible for inciting and participating in the heinous crime, stressing that it was imperative that justice was served not only for the victims and their grieving families but also to restore faith in the justice system, which must not be overshadowed by the lawlessness of a mob.

Shettima explained that the forum recognized the pain and anger that the incident had caused within the Hausa community in Uromi and beyond, urging their brothers and sisters to remain calm and peaceful while also being vigilant, as it was essential to resist the temptation for retaliation and instead seek justice through lawful means.

The AYCF said they stand ready to support the community in advocating for their rights and ensuring that such an atrocity was never repeated.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and call upon the relevant authorities to act swiftly in bringing the perpetrators of this mob injustice to justice.

“We must work together to build a society where dialogue and understanding prevail over violence and ignorance,” the statement explained.
