Natasha: Don’t be distracted by sexual harassment allegation – CNPD tells Senate to enforce rules
A civil society organization, CSO, Citizens Network For Peace and Development in Nigeria, CNPD, has urged the Senate not to be distracted by the sexual harassment allegation levelled against Senate President, Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Monday by its Executive Director, Francis Okereke Wainwei, CNPD charged the Senate to remain focused on discharging its constitutional responsibilities to the Nigerian people.
The CSO noted that the call was necessitated by indications that the primary aim of the sexual harassment allegation might be to escape punishment from the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, which is investigating Natasha for breach of the rules of the Senate.
“It seems to be a desperate attempt to divert attention from her disciplinary proceedings. She is trying to manipulate the Senate and the Nigerian people to avoid punishment for her unruly behaviour.
“It is our highly considered opinion that the sexual harassment allegation is a grand ploy by Sen. Natasha to escape punishment from the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, for her flagrant breach of the Senate rules. She wants to use the sexual harassment allegation to distract the Senate committee and attract sympathy from both the Senate and the Nigerian people as a victim of illegitimate use of power by the Senate President,” the CSO said.
Further questioning the sincerity of Natasha’s actions, the group raised some questions on the issue.
“Why has she not used the due process in the Senate to pursue redress for the sexual harassment that supposedly took place over a year ago? Why did she not confide in the other female senators and seek their support in fighting against her harassment? Why is the sexual harassment allegation coming up now that she has been summoned for disciplinary action by the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges?”
The CSO further observed that a critical analysis shows contradictions in claims made during Natasha’s Arise TV interview and the statement released by her husband,High Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan.
“The claim by her husband that his wife doesn’t hide anything from him contradicts her claim of not telling her husband about the sexual harassment till now,” the CSO noted.
CNPD, in the same vein, pointed out that Natasha had in the past made similar unsubstantiated allegations of sexual harassment against prominent persons such as Reno Omokri, Dino Melanie and Yahaya Bello.
“She made those allegations without evidence and couldn’t substantiate them but went ahead to give them serious media hype. It has become a notorious fact that anytime she needs public sympathy to achieve a desired goal, she brings up sexual harassment allegations because many people buy into stories of sexual harassment without critically analyzing the credibility and veracity of such claims.
“Sen. Natasha’s claim of being victimized for sexual reasons doesn’t hold any water and hasn’t been backed up with any concrete evidence. For instance, Sen. Natasha claimed that the monthly imprest fund meant for the daily running of the Senate Committee on Local Content was kept in the bank throughout her tenure as chairperson, which is an allusion to the fact that the Committee didn’t do any work during her time as Chairperson. Such a claim is an obvious admission that she was not productive and effective in running the affairs of the committee and therefore,deserved her removal.
“It is therefore, malicious for her to claim that she was removed as the committee chairperson because of her refusal to agree to the alleged sexual advances of the Senate President. Also the conventional change of seats in the Senate that affected other senators too, can’t be rightly seen as an action targeted at her because of her refusal to acquiesce to the alleged sexual advances of the Senate President.
“We are therefore calling on the Senate to religiously adhere to the strict enforcement of it’s rules and extant parliamentary procedures. This is to ensure the sustenance of its parliamentary integrity and due process without being swayed negatively by any extraneous distraction or sentiment.”
CNPD equally faulted former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, for suggesting that Akpabio should step aside as Senate President for the deputy to preside over the investigation of the sexual harassment allegation. The CSO said Saraki’s suggestion was not in line with the rules of the Senate and parliamentary procedures.
Accusing Saraki of playing politics, the group said, “Mr Saraki is aware that before any allegation or any matter can be investigated by the Senate, it must be raised in the Senate or formally presented before it. This matter was never raised or presented in the Senate, so how can the Senate investigate it?”

The suspects were arraigned by the Niger State Police Command in October 2024.
Their alleged offense was punishable under sections 97 and 306 of the penal code.
However, the prosecution failed to proceed with the case, prompting the defense team to request the court to discharge the defendants.
The defense team, led by Barrister Abubakar Sadiq Ma’aji, had requested the court to discharge the defendants, citing “lack of diligent prosecution”.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Hajiya Ummul Katume Mohammed, subsequently discharged the 26 defendants, citing the provisions of Section 191 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act Law (ACJA), Niger State, 2021.

Niger State farmers get green light for 2025 wet season planting
The Niger State Ministry of Agriculture has advised farmers to commence planting for the 2025 wet season from May 14th to June 6th, 2025.
According to the Permanent Secretary of Niger State Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Mathew Ahmed, this follows the release of the Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) for 2025 by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET).
“Eighteen LGAs comprising Lapai, Bida, Bosso, Chanchaga, Edati, Gbako, Gurara, Katcha, Lavun, Mashegu, Mokwa, Munya, Munya, Paikoro, Shiroro, Suleja, Tafa and Wushishi will have an onset in the month of May. While Rijau, Agwara, Borgu, Kontagora, Magama, Mariga and Rafi respectively, will have an onset date in the month of June, 2025,” he said.
Ahmed explained that the Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) showed that Lapai LGA out of the 25 LGAs in the state, will have earliest onset on 13th May with 180 days season length amounting to a total of 1,208mm of annual rainfall.
He stated that the SCP further indicated that Rijau LGA will have the longest delayed onset date on 13th June while the LG is expected to record a total of 132 days of the wet season.
“We advise farmers to not only adhere but use the available information as provided by the Seasonal Climate Prediction to plan this year’s wet season farming.as it also revealed that Northern states could experience longer dry spell lasting up to 21 days between June and August.
“Temperature outlook for 2025 will be hotter than the average with intense heat waves expected in January, February, March and May this year.
“This means that Northern states will experience most severe heat condition,” Ahmed disclosed.
Stressing the importance of Seasonal Climate Prediction to improved crop production, he noted that NIMET’s prediction aligns with the United Nations early warning for all initiatives and serves as a vital tool for policy makers and disaster management agency.
Ahmed thanked NIMET for its prediction, while stating that for the first time in Nigeria, millet was grown twice and harvested successfully in the last growing season.
“By the end of last October and November based on the NIMET predictions, farmers were encouraged to plant millet and it was successfully harvested,” the permanent secretary added.

Former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan on Sunday berated Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the allegations of sexual harassment against him.
Ologbondiyan said Akpabio has been toying with the mistake former Senate Presidents like David Mark, Bukola Saraki and Ahmad Lawan avoided.
The PDP chieftain likened the mistakes to “Banana peels”.
He made the remark against the backdrop of sexual allegations levelled against Akpabio by Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Posting on X, Ologbondiyan said there should be consequences for Akpabio’s action of introducing the ‘Banana Sleaze’ into the lexicon of the Senate.
Ologbondiyan said: “When Senator David Alechenu Bonaventure Mark emerged as the President of the Senate in June 2007, one of his first assignments was to search for the ‘Banana Peels’ that had removed from office a number of Senate Presidents that preceded him.
“Banana Peels’ was the nebulous hubris that bordered on financial malfeasance which suddenly ended the tenure of a number of presiding officers from the chair.
“But the inimitable Senator Mark smartly pulled back from the issues of money in the Senate and constituted a committee that established financial protocols for the Senate and all senators.
“He (Mark) would later spend eight (8) uninterrupted and noiseless years as the presiding officer of the Senate and the Chairman of the National Assembly.
“Subsequent presiding officers of the Senate, namely Senators Bukola Saraki and Ahmed Lawan, also did terms of four years each and vacated the chair gracefully and peacefully without a fall from the proverbial ‘Banana Peels’.
“Interestingly, the current Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been toying with the ‘Banana Peels’ in his almost two years in office.
“Now, he has, through the current allegations of sexual harassment, fully introduced the ‘Banana Sleaze’ into the lexicon of the Senate and the consequences are always inevitable.”

![](https://api.whatsapp.com/send?text=*Natasha:%20Don’t%20be%20distracted%20by%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation%20–%20CNPD%20tells%20Senate%20to%20enforce%20rules*nA%20civil%20society%20organization,%20CSO,%20Citizens%20Network%20For%20Peace%20and%20Development%20in%20Nigeria,%20CNPD,%20has%20urged%20the%20Senate%20not%20to%20be%20distracted%20by%20the%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation%20levelled%20against%20Senate%20President,%20Godswill%20Akpabio%20by%20Senator%20Natasha%20Akpoti-Uduaghan.%20In%20a%20statement%20made%20available%20to%20journalists%20in%20Abuja%20on%20Monday%20by%20its%20Executive%20Director,%20Francis%20Okereke%20Wainwei,%20Natasha:%20Don’t%20be%20distracted%20by%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation%20–%20CNPD%20tells%20Senate%20to%20enforce%20rules%20<!--%20wp:html%20--><p><img%20width="963"%20height="594"%20src="https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot-2025-02-21-1.11.47-PM.jpg"%20class="webfeedsFeaturedVisual%20wp-post-image"%20alt=""%20loading="lazy"%20/></p><p>A%20civil%20society%20organization,%20CSO,%20Citizens%20Network%20For%20Peace%20and%20Development%20in%20Nigeria,%20CNPD,%20has%20urged%20the%20Senate%20not%20to%20be%20distracted%20by%20the%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation%20levelled%20against%20Senate%20President,%20Godswill%20Akpabio%20by%20Senator%20Natasha%20Akpoti-Uduaghan.</p><p>In%20a%20statement%20made%20available%20to%20journalists%20in%20Abuja%20on%20Monday%20by%20its%20Executive%20Director,%20Francis%20Okereke%20Wainwei,%20CNPD%20charged%20the%20Senate%20to%20remain%20focused%20on%20discharging%20its%20constitutional%20responsibilities%20to%20the%20Nigerian%20people.</p><p>The%20CSO%20noted%20that%20the%20call%20was%20necessitated%20by%20indications%20that%20the%20primary%20aim%20of%20the%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation%20might%20be%20to%20escape%20punishment%20from%20the%20Senate%20Committee%20on%20Ethics%20and%20Privileges,%20which%20is%20investigating%20Natasha%20for%20breach%20of%20the%20rules%20of%20the%20Senate.</p><p>“It%20seems%20to%20be%20a%20desperate%20attempt%20to%20divert%20attention%20from%20her%20disciplinary%20proceedings.%20She%20is%20trying%20to%20manipulate%20the%20Senate%20and%20the%20Nigerian%20people%20to%20avoid%20punishment%20for%20her%20unruly%20behaviour.</p><p>“It%20is%20our%20highly%20considered%20opinion%20that%20the%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation%20is%20a%20grand%20ploy%20by%20Sen.%20Natasha%20to%20escape%20punishment%20from%20the%20Senate%20Committee%20on%20Ethics%20and%20Privileges,%20for%20her%20flagrant%20breach%20of%20the%20Senate%20rules.%20She%20wants%20to%20use%20the%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation%20to%20distract%20the%20Senate%20committee%20and%20attract%20sympathy%20from%20both%20the%20Senate%20and%20the%20Nigerian%20people%20as%20a%20victim%20of%20illegitimate%20use%20of%20power%20by%20the%20Senate%20President,”%20the%20CSO%20said.</p><p>Further%20questioning%20the%20sincerity%20of%20Natasha’s%20actions,%20the%20group%20raised%20some%20questions%20on%20the%20issue.</p><p>“Why%20has%20she%20not%20used%20the%20due%20process%20in%20the%20Senate%20to%20pursue%20redress%20for%20the%20sexual%20harassment%20that%20supposedly%20took%20place%20over%20a%20year%20ago?%20Why%20did%20she%20not%20confide%20in%20the%20other%20female%20senators%20and%20seek%20their%20support%20in%20fighting%20against%20her%20harassment?%20Why%20is%20the%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation%20coming%20up%20now%20that%20she%20has%20been%20summoned%20for%20disciplinary%20action%20by%20the%20Senate%20Committee%20on%20Ethics%20and%20Privileges?”</p><p>The%20CSO%20further%20observed%20that%20a%20critical%20analysis%20shows%20contradictions%20in%20claims%20made%20during%20Natasha’s%20Arise%20TV%20interview%20and%20the%20statement%20released%20by%20her%20husband,High%20Chief%20Emmanuel%20Uduaghan.</p><p>“The%20claim%20by%20her%20husband%20that%20his%20wife%20doesn’t%20hide%20anything%20from%20him%20contradicts%20her%20claim%20of%20not%20telling%20her%20husband%20about%20the%20sexual%20harassment%20till%20now,”%20the%20CSO%20noted.</p><p>CNPD,%20in%20the%20same%20vein,%20pointed%20out%20that%20Natasha%20had%20in%20the%20past%20made%20similar%20unsubstantiated%20allegations%20of%20sexual%20harassment%20against%20prominent%20persons%20such%20as%20Reno%20Omokri,%20Dino%20Melanie%20and%20Yahaya%20Bello.</p><p>“She%20made%20those%20allegations%20without%20evidence%20and%20couldn’t%20substantiate%20them%20but%20went%20ahead%20to%20give%20them%20serious%20media%20hype.%20It%20has%20become%20a%20notorious%20fact%20that%20anytime%20she%20needs%20public%20sympathy%20to%20achieve%20a%20desired%20goal,%20she%20brings%20up%20sexual%20harassment%20allegations%20because%20many%20people%20buy%20into%20stories%20of%20sexual%20harassment%20without%20critically%20analyzing%20the%20credibility%20and%20veracity%20of%20such%20claims.</p><p>“Sen.%20Natasha’s%20claim%20of%20being%20victimized%20for%20sexual%20reasons%20doesn’t%20hold%20any%20water%20and%20hasn’t%20been%20backed%20up%20with%20any%20concrete%20evidence.%20For%20instance,%20Sen.%20Natasha%20claimed%20that%20the%20monthly%20imprest%20fund%20meant%20for%20the%20daily%20running%20of%20the%20Senate%20Committee%20on%20Local%20Content%20was%20kept%20in%20the%20bank%20throughout%20her%20tenure%20as%20chairperson,%20which%20is%20an%20allusion%20to%20the%20fact%20that%20the%20Committee%20didn’t%20do%20any%20work%20during%20her%20time%20as%20Chairperson.%20Such%20a%20claim%20is%20an%20obvious%20admission%20that%20she%20was%20not%20productive%20and%20effective%20in%20running%20the%20affairs%20of%20the%20committee%20and%20therefore,deserved%20her%20removal.</p><p>“It%20is%20therefore,%20malicious%20for%20her%20to%20claim%20that%20she%20was%20removed%20as%20the%20committee%20chairperson%20because%20of%20her%20refusal%20to%20agree%20to%20the%20alleged%20sexual%20advances%20of%20the%20Senate%20President.%20Also%20the%20conventional%20change%20of%20seats%20in%20the%20Senate%20that%20affected%20other%20senators%20too,%20can’t%20be%20rightly%20seen%20as%20an%20action%20targeted%20at%20her%20because%20of%20her%20refusal%20to%20acquiesce%20to%20the%20alleged%20sexual%20advances%20of%20the%20Senate%20President.</p><p>“We%20are%20therefore%20calling%20on%20the%20Senate%20to%20religiously%20adhere%20to%20the%20strict%20enforcement%20of%20it’s%20rules%20and%20extant%20parliamentary%20procedures.%20This%20is%20to%20ensure%20the%20sustenance%20of%20its%20parliamentary%20integrity%20and%20due%20process%20without%20being%20swayed%20negatively%20by%20any%20extraneous%20distraction%20or%20sentiment.”</p><p>CNPD%20equally%20faulted%20former%20Senate%20President,%20Bukola%20Saraki,%20for%20suggesting%20that%20Akpabio%20should%20step%20aside%20as%20Senate%20President%20for%20the%20deputy%20to%20preside%20over%20the%20investigation%20of%20the%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation.%20The%20CSO%20said%20Saraki’s%20suggestion%20was%20not%20in%20line%20with%20the%20rules%20of%20the%20Senate%20and%20parliamentary%20procedures.</p><p>Accusing%20Saraki%20of%20playing%20politics,%20the%20group%20said,%20“Mr%20Saraki%20is%20aware%20that%20before%20any%20allegation%20or%20any%20matter%20can%20be%20investigated%20by%20the%20Senate,%20it%20must%20be%20raised%20in%20the%20Senate%20or%20formally%20presented%20before%20it.%20This%20matter%20was%20never%20raised%20or%20presented%20in%20the%20Senate,%20so%20how%20can%20the%20Senate%20investigate%20it?”</p><p><a%20href="https://dailypost.ng/2025/03/03/natasha-dont-be-distracted-by-sexual-harassment-allegation-cnpd-tells-senate-to-enforce-rules/">Natasha:%20Don’t%20be%20distracted%20by%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation%20–%20CNPD%20tells%20Senate%20to%20enforce%20rules</a></p><p><img%20src="https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot-2025-02-21-1.11.47-PM.jpg"%20title="Natasha:%20Don’t%20be%20distracted%20by%20sexual%20harassment%20allegation%20–%20CNPD%20tells%20Senate%20to%20enforce%20rules"%20/></p><!--%20/wp:html%20-->nhttps://hotsource.com.ng/natasha-dont-be-distracted-by-sexual-harassment-allegation-cnpd-tells-senate-to-enforce-rules/){kind=link}

%20for%202025%20by%20the%20Nigerian%20Meteorological%20Agency%20Niger%20State%20farmers%20get%20green%20light%20for%202025%20wet%20season%20planting%20<!--%20wp:html%20--><p><img%20width="960"%20height="960"%20src="https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG-20250303-WA0001.jpg"%20class="webfeedsFeaturedVisual%20wp-post-image"%20alt=""%20loading="lazy"%20/></p><p>The%20Niger%20State%20Ministry%20of%20Agriculture%20has%20advised%20farmers%20to%20commence%20planting%20for%20the%202025%20wet%20season%20from%20May%2014th%20to%20June%206th,%202025.</p><p>According%20to%20the%20Permanent%20Secretary%20of%20Niger%20State%20Ministry%20of%20Agriculture,%20Dr.%20Mathew%20Ahmed,%20this%20follows%20the%20release%20of%20the%20Seasonal%20Climate%20Prediction%20(SCP)%20for%202025%20by%20the%20Nigerian%20Meteorological%20Agency%20(NIMET).</p><p>“Eighteen%20LGAs%20comprising%20Lapai,%20Bida,%20Bosso,%20Chanchaga,%20Edati,%20Gbako,%20Gurara,%20Katcha,%20Lavun,%20Mashegu,%20Mokwa,%20Munya,%20Munya,%20Paikoro,%20Shiroro,%20Suleja,%20Tafa%20and%20Wushishi%20will%20have%20an%20onset%20in%20the%20month%20of%20May.%20While%20Rijau,%20Agwara,%20Borgu,%20Kontagora,%20Magama,%20Mariga%20and%20Rafi%20respectively,%20will%20have%20an%20onset%20date%20in%20the%20month%20of%20June,%202025,”%20he%20said.</p><p>Ahmed%20explained%20that%20the%20Seasonal%20Climate%20Prediction%20(SCP)%20showed%20that%20Lapai%20LGA%20out%20of%20the%2025%20LGAs%20in%20the%20state,%20will%20have%20earliest%20onset%20on%2013th%20May%20with%20180%20days%20season%20length%20amounting%20to%20a%20total%20of%201,208mm%20of%20annual%20rainfall.</p><p>He%20stated%20that%20the%20SCP%20further%20indicated%20that%20Rijau%20LGA%20will%20have%20the%20longest%20delayed%20onset%20date%20on%2013th%20June%20while%20the%20LG%20is%20expected%20to%20record%20a%20total%20of%20132%20days%20of%20the%20wet%20season.</p><p>“We%20advise%20farmers%20to%20not%20only%20adhere%20but%20use%20the%20available%20information%20as%20provided%20by%20the%20Seasonal%20Climate%20Prediction%20to%20plan%20this%20year’s%20wet%20season%20farming.as%20it%20also%20revealed%20that%20Northern%20states%20could%20experience%20longer%20dry%20spell%20lasting%20up%20to%2021%20days%20between%20June%20and%20August.</p><p>“Temperature%20outlook%20for%202025%20will%20be%20hotter%20than%20the%20average%20with%20intense%20heat%20waves%20expected%20in%20January,%20February,%20March%20and%20May%20this%20year.</p><p>“This%20means%20that%20Northern%20states%20will%20experience%20most%20severe%20heat%20condition,”%20Ahmed%20disclosed.</p><p>Stressing%20the%20importance%20of%20Seasonal%20Climate%20Prediction%20to%20improved%20crop%20production,%20he%20noted%20that%20NIMET’s%20prediction%20aligns%20with%20the%20United%20Nations%20early%20warning%20for%20all%20initiatives%20and%20serves%20as%20a%20vital%20tool%20for%20policy%20makers%20and%20disaster%20management%20agency.</p><p>Ahmed%20thanked%20NIMET%20for%20its%20prediction,%20while%20stating%20that%20for%20the%20first%20time%20in%20Nigeria,%20millet%20was%20grown%20twice%20and%20harvested%20successfully%20in%20the%20last%20growing%20season.</p><p>“By%20the%20end%20of%20last%20October%20and%20November%20based%20on%20the%20NIMET%20predictions,%20farmers%20were%20encouraged%20to%20plant%20millet%20and%20it%20was%20successfully%20harvested,”%20the%20permanent%20secretary%20added.</p><p><a%20href="https://dailypost.ng/2025/03/03/niger-state-farmers-get-green-light-for-2025-wet-season-planting/">Niger%20State%20farmers%20get%20green%20light%20for%202025%20wet%20season%20planting</a></p><p><img%20src="https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG-20250303-WA0001.jpg"%20title="Niger%20State%20farmers%20get%20green%20light%20for%202025%20wet%20season%20planting"%20/></p><!--%20/wp:html%20-->nhttps://hotsource.com.ng/niger-state-farmers-get-green-light-for-2025-wet-season-planting/){kind=link}
