At least one person was killed and four others were wounded in a stabbing attack at a bus station in the city of Haifa.

The Israeli ambulance service disclosed this on Monday in what police described as a terrorist attack.

A police spokesperson said that security guards shot and killed the assailant.

It was not immediately clear whether the man killed had been stabbed by the assailant or shot by the guards.

However, police stated that the assailant was an Israeli citizen from a nearby Arab Druze town who had returned from abroad in May, adding that the attack was still under investigation.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian militant group Hamas praised the attack but did not claim responsibility.

Israel on Monday demolished houses and cleared a wide roadway through the Nur Shams refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.

This is part of weeks of operation against militant groups that have forced tens of thousands of Palestinians from their homes.

The operation, taking place during a fragile ceasefire in Gaza that has halted fighting there for the past six weeks, has emptied some of the largest refugee camps in the northern West Bank. Some Palestinians view this as a trial run for broader clearances in the future.

Nur Shams, located outside the city of Tulkarm, is the latest camp to be virtually emptied of its inhabitants, following similar operations in the volatile city of Jenin to the east and a separate camp within Tulkarm itself.

Bulldozers have reportedly been clearing a broad roadway through the area where houses once stood to facilitate access for military vehicles, as part of one of the Israeli military’s most extensive operations in the West Bank in years.

The head of the Nur Shams camp services committee, Nihad al-Shawish, said that of the usual population of approximately 13,000, almost none remain inside the main camp.

“There were about 3,000 people left in the camp, and as of today, they have all left. There are still some people just outside on the outskirts, but there is no one left in the camp,” he said.

The Israeli military has previously stated that its operation aims to root out fighters from Iranian-backed militant groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which have established strongholds in the camps of the northern West Bank.

Trump to decide US tariff levels on Mexico, Canada as Tuesday deadline looms

President Donald Trump of the United States is expected to decide on Monday the levels of tariffs he will impose on Canada and Mexico early Tuesday, amid last-minute negotiations over border security and efforts to curb the inflow of fentanyl opioids.

It should be recalled that Trump has vowed to impose 25 per cent tariffs on all imports from Canada and Mexico, with a 10 per cent tariff on Canadian energy.

The tariffs are scheduled to take effect at 12:01 a.m. EST (0501 GMT) on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick indicated that Trump may not impose the full extent of the tariffs, stating that the president would determine their exact levels.

According to Lutnick, Mexico and Canada have made reasonable efforts to secure their borders with the United States, and Trump is considering what the final tariff levels should be.

“He’s currently thinking about how exactly he wants to handle Mexico and Canada, and it remains a fluid situation. There will be tariffs on Tuesday on Mexico and Canada. Exactly what they will be, we’ll leave that for the president and his team to negotiate,” he said.

“Trump is also expected on Tuesday to raise fentanyl-related tariffs on Chinese imports from 10% to 20%, unless Beijing halts fentanyl trafficking into the US,” Lutnick added.

Ukraine vs Russia: ‘Worst statement ever’ – Trump slams Zelensky over latest comment

President Donald Trump has criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over his recent comments about the relationship between the United States and Ukraine.

Trump claimed that the Ukrainian president does not want peace as long as he has America’s backing, adding that the United States will not tolerate Zelensky’s stance for much longer.

DAILY POST reports that Zelensky recently stated that a deal to end the war between Ukraine and Russia is still “very, very far away.”

He also expressed confidence that Ukraine would continue receiving American support despite his increasingly tense relations with Trump.

However, in a post on Truth Social on Monday, Trump argued that Zelensky’s statement was not a strong demonstration of resistance against Russia.

According to Trump, European leaders told Zelensky in a recent meeting that they cannot manage the situation without the support of the United States.

“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!

“It is what I have been saying—this guy doesn’t want peace as long as he has America’s backing. And Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelenskyy, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the U.S.

“Probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?” Trump said.
