There was jubilation in the middle-belt, core- north and most parts of Nigeria on Monday evening following the approval of Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management by President Bola Tinubu.
Recall that the Nigerian president approved 11 universities on Monday during the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting which held on Monday at the State House. The university whose approval has been pending since the past four years made the list, resulting in nationwide jubilation, especially among young Nigerians who have over the years been beneficiaries of the university owner, Comrade Isaac Balami’s magnanimity.
Comrade Balami, a top aviator and former President of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, who addressed the media shortly after the announcement appreciated President Bola Tinubu for approving his university amid daunting oppositions by some persons who had frustrated his efforts in the past years. He said “who would thought that in just two years of Mr President’s administration, my university would be granted the license to operate.
Balami who owns one of the biggest airline maintenance companies and owner of 7star Global Hanger said, “We have been on this for the past four years and as God could have it, we have finally hit the destination. Success can only be delayed. It will surely come. I thank His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu for his fairness in the decisions he has made so far that have affected lives positively. This particular approval has brought succor to many families waiting patiently for the take-off of this university.
“I give God all the glory and also those who allowed God to use him to stand for a common young man like me. For four years, I was told it would not happen, but God used Mr President. This portrays him as a leader who is ready to stand up for young people without God-father but committed to nation-building.
“We thank those who have continued to stand by us despite the past drawbacks. We are here now. We have built this university, not only for children of the rich, we are committed to operating a university that is accessible by all Nigerians.
“This is not my university. It’s our university. We will operate this together and eventually win together. God bless you all.”
On the streets of Biu, Borno State, young people trooped out in jubilation even as congratulatory messages continue to pour in from family, friends and well wishers.
“The propeller was when the Minister of Education saw through my vision. He personally affirmed his commitment toward the realization of this vision by saying it was his project. I thank him.
“I cant appreciate my team enough, especially the school professors who worked tirelessly for years to push this vision to reality. Thank you. My 7star Hanger team has equally been wonderful in this effort. God bless you.
“And to my lovely wife and children. Your patience while I travel around the world and across the country for this vision has been amazing. This is the beginning of an epoch,” Balami said.
Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management is expected to churn out young pilots, engineers, managers and leaders.

The Controller of Corrections at the Kwara State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Oyeniran Famuwagun, disclosed this during a visit to the Kwara State Chief Judge, Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara, in his office in Ilorin on Monday.
Famuwagun, who recently assumed office in the state, expressed dismay at the condition of the inmates due to inadequate logistics and poor access roads, particularly the dilapidated bridge leading to Mandala Custodial Centre.
He also highlighted the congested road from Oja Oba to Oke-Kura Custodial Centre, along with the severe overcrowding of inmates in the facility.
Reiterating the urgent need for the relocation of the Oke-Kura Custodial Centre to a more suitable and spacious location, Famuwagun emphasised that 80 per cent of the inmates in Kwara’s correctional facilities are Kwarans. He urged the chief judge to use his good office to address these concerns to improve the welfare of the inmates, as they remain part of the larger society.
“They will return to society after serving their jail terms,” he noted, stressing that these challenges hinder the swift dispensation of justice.
In response, the chief judge underscored the need for improved logistics for the corrections department, as it directly impacts the administration of justice.
He assured the controller of his full support and cooperation in ensuring the swift dispensation of justice in the state.

UTME 2025: JAMB enrols 1.6m candidates in 26 days
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, announced on Monday that 1,687,860 candidates have already registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME. The board stated in its weekly bulletin that registration has been ongoing for 26 days, beginning on 3rd February 2025, with just six days remaining before the deadline on 8th March.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, announced on Monday that 1,687,860 candidates have already registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.
The board stated in its weekly bulletin that registration has been ongoing for 26 days, beginning on 3rd February 2025, with just six days remaining before the deadline on 8th March.
The 2025 UTME is scheduled to take place from Friday, 18th April 2025.
JAMB had earlier projected two million candidates for the examination.
Providing a breakdown of the ongoing registration, JAMB disclosed that in the first week alone, 201,867 candidates registered. In the second week, the number rose to 560,025, followed by 528,832 in the third week. By the fourth week, the total had increased to 1,290,715.
The board reiterated in its bulletin that there would be no extension of the registration period beyond 8th March 2025.
A review of the immediate past UTME in 2024 showed that 1,989,668 candidates registered for the exam. Of these, 1,904,189 sat the examination, while 80,810 were absent.
A total of 1,402,490 candidates—73.7 per cent of those who sat the exam—scored below 200, while just 0.4 per cent achieved scores above 300.
