Adebajo reveals most important thing as Tinubu signs N54.99tn 2025 budget
Nigerian financial expert and chief executive officer of the CFG Advisory, Adetilewa Adebajo, has revealed that the non-allocation of funds to the fuel subsidy is the most important, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the N54.99 trillion 2025 budget.
Adebajo disclosed this in a recent interview on Arise Television, analysing the budget.
This comes as the two chambers of the National Assembly approved the N54.99 trillion 2025 budget days back and it was signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday.
The signed 2025 budget surpassed the initial N54.2 trillion proposal by Tinubu and a near 100 percent increase from the N27.5 trillion budget for last year.
Key prepositions are the exchange rate benchmark at N1500 per dollar, the interest rate at 15 percent from the current 24.48 percent, and the crude oil production target of 2.06 million barrels per day at a benchmark price of $75 per barrel.
Reacting, Adebajo identified that the non-allocation of funds to the fuel subsidy, which gulped about N4 trillion in 2024.
“One of the most important things for me in the 2025 budget that people are not highlighting is that for the first time in a long while, no funds were allocated to fuel subsidy. I think this is something very important”.

Rivers Assembly Crisis: Rivers govt reacts to Supreme Court judgement
The Rivers State Government has responded to the Supreme Court rulings that declared Martins Amaewhule the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, dismissed the 23 local government chairmen and instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to immediately cease the release of funds to the Rivers State Government.
In a statement on Friday signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joseph Johnson, the government noted that it is “awaiting a detailed briefing on the implications of the judgment.”
Johnson emphasized that the state government would “carefully evaluate the situation and determine the next steps to take in the best interest of Rivers State and its people.”
The Commissioner also urged the people of Rivers to remain calm during this period.
The government further clarified that the issue of the defection of the 27 lawmakers is not part of the current Supreme Court proceedings, as the matter is still pending before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.
Johnson stated that since the issue of defection was not addressed by the Supreme Court, Amaewhule and the 26 other lawmakers continue to operate as members of the House of Assembly until the matter of defection is adjudicated.
He assured the public that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding its mandate to protect the best interests of the state and the rule of law in all matters affecting Rivers State.

The Senate Chairperson for Women Affair, Ireti Kingibe on Friday said Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti has enjoyed more privileges than the other three female senators.
Kingibe disclosed this while insisting that the other three senators have not been sexually harassed by their male colleagues.
Her comment came against the backdrop of Natasha’s allegation of sexual harassment against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The lawmaker claimed that most of her privileges were denied and her motion turned down for refusing Akpabio’s sexual advances.
Natasha’s allegation came to light after a heated altercation with Akpabio over sitting arrangement on the floor of the Upper Legislative chambers.
But, Akpabio’s wife, Unoma accused the Kogi Central Senator of lying against her husband.
However, speaking with Arise Television, the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, said: “The Senate is not a place where we are supposed to fight over trivialities like sitting arrangements.
“It’s a place where we fight about issues that affect the people and that’s why this whole thing is a none issue. We expected that because it was only four of us we would get privileges but we don’t get them, we fought to get there and the fight continues until we can get more women in the Senate.
“If we don’t get privileges does not mean that we don’t get our rights, the three of us have not been sexually harassed, but that is not to say if Natasha can prove that she has been, we will support her.
“But she has never discussed it with us and we don’t know about it, she did not respond to the rest of the female senators and has not spoken to anyone of us through our this whole episode.
“Natasha has had the most privileges among female Senators, l have been moved 4 times from my seat…There is hardly anything done to us that is not done to other men in senate …Women must follow the rules of the institution they choose to join.
“I called Natasha twice before reaching out to her husband, but she didn’t return my calls.”
