Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has hosted the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, to a breakfast meeting at his residence in Adamawa State.

In a video posted on his X handle on Saturday, Atiku was seen with Obi, walking into a dining area of his house.

DAILY POST recalls that Atiku had in May hosted Obi at his residence in Abuja, sparking rumours of a possible alliance between both politicians ahead of the 2027 election.

Recall that Atiku was the standard-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2019 with Peter Obi as his running mate.

Obi, who was a member of PDP, defected to the Labour Party in 2022, seven months before the 2023 elections.

The 78-years-old Atiku had in May said he would continue to contest for the Nigerian presidency as long as he is hale and hearty.

He has run for presidency six times, but has not not won the number one citizen’s position.

Below is the video.

Kaduna: Arewa group lauds Gov Sani for granting amnesty to bandits

The Arewa Forum for Good Governance (AFGG) has commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for granting amnesty to repentant bandits operating in the state.

DAILY POST recalls that Sani had on Thursday received the first batch of repentant bandits in Birnin Gwari.

While hailing the governor for his leadership style, the group said he has set the trail to end the activities of bandits in northern Nigeria.

The group, in a statement signed by Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Bichi, added that with several senior bandit leaders coming out to surrender their arms and embrace peace, alongside their followers, there is hope that banditry can be tackled once and for all.

“The decision to consider dialogue and amnesty for the bandits for peace to reign in the region is not only laudable, but a creative approach to ending what has destroyed the image and hindered progress and development of the north and its people.

“We have clamoured for amnesty for bandits as means to end the incessant attacks and killings of our people. With this singular effort, we can confidently say there is ray of light now.

“The good thing about the programme is that it adheres to international standards of disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration, ensuring that these individuals can return to society as productive citizens.

“The good news also is that the governor promised that these individuals are going to be enrolled in a rehabilitation programme designed by the State Government in partnership with the Federal Government for reintegration and complete ceasefire,” the group said.

Fisayo Soyombo makes revelations about oil bunkering after release from detention

The founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), Fisayo Soyombo, has made some revelations in his first interview since being released by the Nigerian Army.

Speaking on Arise TV on Saturday morning, Soyombo claimed he was conducting an undercover investigation when he was arrested.

He revealed there was high security cover provided for oil bunkerers in the country.

“It would shock you the kind of people who escort illegal oil bunkerers out of Port-Harcourt.

“The Army spokesman already compromised my security by going online to say that they found illegal bunkerers.

“There are clean men in the military but we need to clean up the saboteurs who enable oil bunkerers to thrive.

“This is a new level for me that I need to do it. Rather than change my approach, I will rather stop. Maybe I have one, two, three undercover investigations and I will stop.

“It is not the fun of it but the situations we found ourselves in. Imagine the story I did on smugglers. People have to know that in their country they can be safe, and we need to expose these wrongdoings.

“The figure being put out in terms of crude oil theft are an underestimation of what’s happening. The crude we were to move was for 50,000 barrels. If the man who got annoyed that he wasn’t bribed didn’t talk, we would have had two trucks moved out.

“There is no institution that can say for a fact the barrels being lifted daily.

“It is not only oil bunkerers that are thieves but those who are also meant to supervise the sector. What we would need is an overhaul of the system,” Soyombo said.
