Save Zamfara APC now – Shinkafi tells Tinubu, Ganduje

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Zamfara State, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, to intervene in what he described as the deteriorating state of the APC in Zamfara.

Dr. Shinkafi, who survived an assassination attempt last Friday, warned that the imposition of candidates in elections would no longer be tolerated in the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Gusau over the weekend, Shinkafi disclosed that he was attacked by political thugs while attending a wedding at Rabia Jumu’at Mosque in Gusau.

He linked the attack to his recent public comments criticizing the APC’s internal democracy and addressing the failure to apprehend notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji.

“I recognize my attackers as APC members. This was clearly a mission to silence me because I openly criticized the imposition of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections and the failure to arrest Bello Turji,” Shinkafi stated.

He alleged that the attackers were acting under the influence of certain party leaders who are uncomfortable with his stance on internal democracy within the APC.

Dr. Shinkafi, a former gubernatorial candidate, expressed deep concern over the state of the APC in Zamfara.

He attributed the party’s losses in the 2019 and 2023 elections to the imposition of candidates, warning that such practice would no longer be accepted by stakeholders and the electorate.

“We all saw how APC lost Zamfara in 2019 and 2023 due to the imposition of candidates. This will not happen again,” he declared.

The APC chieftain also reiterated his commitment to advocating justice and ensuring the party operates democratically.

“I will continue to advocate for justice. APC should not be hijacked by a few individuals,” Shinkafi emphasized.

He urged party leaders at both the state and national levels to address these issues promptly to prevent further division within the party.

Shinkafi concluded by appealing to President Tinubu and Abdullahi Ganduje to act swiftly to save the party from its current crisis.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje should act fast to save Zamfara APC before it’s too late,” he said, adding that stakeholders and voters in Zamfara would resist any attempt to impose candidates in future elections.
