Diri Wins Three LGAs As INEC Adjourns Collation Of Results

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa, Douye Diri has won three local government areas in the results declared so far in the state.

Naija News understands that Diri is leading in Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia and Yenegoa.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has adjourned the collation of election results in the Bayelsa State Governorship Elections conducted on November 11, 2023.

The collation of results was adjourned about two hours after the commencement of the exercise which was earlier adjourned last night.

Prof Faruq Kuta, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Of Technology, Minna, and the state Returning Officer for the election in Bayelsa adjourned the exercise till 3 pm today.

The adjournment was after the collation of results from three of the eight local government areas in the state.

The remaining local government areas are Brass, Ekeremor, Nembe, Sagbama, and Southern Ijaw.

The returning officer said results from the remaining local government areas are being expected.

Sixteen political parties sponsored candidates for the election in Bayelsa.

Diri’s main opponent is a former Minister of State For Petroleum Resources and an ex-governor of the state, Timipre Sylva.

Dino Melaye Loses Kogi Governorship Election In His Local Government To APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election, Dino Melaye has been defeated in his local government area of Ijumu.

According to the results announced on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Melaye was defeated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Usman Ododo.

Ododo, the APC candidate got 10,524 votes while Melaye of the PDP got 6,909 votes.

Below is a breakdown of the results.

Registered voters: 66,482

Accredited voters: 20,405

ADC: 1,898

APC: 10,524

PDP: 6,909

SDP: 356

Valid votes: 19,991

Rejected votes: 348

Total votes cast: 20,375

INEC Sends Warning To Party Agents Amid Anxiety At Result Collation Center

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of the Kogi State off-cycle governorship election, Dr Gabriel Longpet, has issued a stern warning to party agents, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order and not causing any disruptions during the collation of results.

Speaking to stakeholders prior to the commencement of the collation exercise at the INEC office in Lokoja, the state capital, Longpet emphasized that they were strictly adhering to the established rules and regulations governing the conduct of the exercise.

On his part, Kogi State Returning Officer, Professor Johnson Ozoemenan Urama, said during the collation of election results that as electoral officials, they have taken an oath of neutrality.

He called on all stakeholders present to cooperate with them, assuring the public that the electoral officials will dispense their assignment with fairness and honesty.

BREAKING: SDP calls for cancellation of votes in five LGAs in Kogi State

The Social Democratic Party, (SDP) in Kogi State has called for the cancellation of results of the November 11th governorship election in the state.

SDP made this call at the gubernatorial election collation centre where the party’s collation agent, David Edibu submitted a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission, calling for the cancellation of results in Okene, Okehi, Ogori Magongo, Adavi, Ajaokuta Local Government Areas as well as some parts of Lokoja, alleging corrupt practices, vote buying and over voting.

He added that agents of the Social Democratic Party were not allowed to get close to the polling units in the local government areas.

The state returning officer, Prof. Johnson Urame received the petitions on behalf of the commission and assured the Social Democratic Party that the petition would be reviewed.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party had said it would key into the petition of the Social Democratic Party.

The Collation agent of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abubakar Mahmood added that the number of malpractices in the said Local Government Areas was alarming.

However, the All Progressives Congress while reacting to the call for cancellation, said the Peoples Democratic Party cannot blame anyone for not bringing agents to the polling units.
