Hot SourceIn a major drug interception operation, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) seized 738 compressed parcels of a substance suspected to be cannabis at the Swissport Terminal of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra.
The seizure, which occurred on Saturday, July 5, 2025, involved contraband concealed in polythene bags and packed in 40 boxes, falsely declared as assorted food items. The illicit cargo was reportedly destined for the United Kingdom.
Two individuals have been arrested for assisting with investigations, while two other suspects, Lincoln Nii Okaija (born March 27, 1979) and Kate Davidson, also known as “Esi”, have been declared wanted by NACOC. The Commission is appealing to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the individuals involved.
In a separate development, NACOC conducted a major operation on 24 June in the Eastern Region, targeting illegal drug activities in Akyem Oda and Akroso. The coordinated raid resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals in connection with the possession and distribution of illicit drugs.
The operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance on suspected individuals and business premises.
As part of the crackdown, three licensed chemical shops were shut down after they were found to be selling unregistered and controlled substances without proper authorisation.
Large quantities of illegal drugs and suspicious pharmaceutical products, including cannabis and codeine-based medicines, were seized during the exercise.
NACOC officials have reiterated their commitment to dismantling drug networks across the country and have urged the public to report any suspicious drug-related activities within their communities.
